Excellent self-etch primer, especially for aluminum!
This is an excellent primer, especially for use on aluminum which is usually very difficult to paint, but the method of application is NOT like other primers. Most primers will generally provide a nice, even coat of color on the very first coat. This primer is very thin-bodied and needs to be applied in VERY LIGHT coats. Per the label, you need to clean the aluminum thoroughly and then apply a very light coat and let it dry for 10 minutes or so. The first coat will appear blotchy and irregular, that's fine. Apply a second very light coat, wait ten minutes, then apply a third very light coat and wait about 30 minutes before top-coating. DO NOT apply heavy coats or it will drip and sag and the etching property will not work as well. After the third coat the aluminum will have a uniform greenish-yellow (sort of light olive drab) color. Wait about 30 minutes so all of the coats are totally dry and then top-coat. I've found the VHT epoxy paints cover well and are are very tough, you won't have to worry about chipping or peeling. I have no association at all with VHT, I just like their products and wanted to help those looking for a reliable way to paint aluminum parts.

Excellent. I wish all spray paint went on like this primer does.
This primer is excellent. Wets out great, does not run, dries to a nice flat olive green color. Apply in light coats, you can't go wrong. I'm using it on a bare aluminum steering wheel casting as part of a car restoration. Have not applied the top coats yet but I am optimistic about the outcome. This is not a thick sandable primer so do thorough surface prep first. This is used to get good adhesion to difficult to paint materials such as aluminum.

Nothing special
Takes two to three coats to cover bare aluminum with this thin green tinged primer. Used under Trilux. Adhesion is nothing special, Save your money with rustoleum.

The go-to primer for plastic
I used this to prime a plastic set of center hubcaps for some wheel painting I was doing on my truck. Sprayed on even with very little orange peel/bumpiness. I put on three VERY light coats, let it dry for about 10 min in between each coat. I followed up with one slightly thicker coat to ensure full coverage. No need for additional sanding later and no matter what I tried, I couldn't get it to peel or flake off. Spraying standard automotive paint after it cured ( a couple of weeks to be safe) was a breeze and the paint has held after a couple of months of abuse on my truck rims. Using it to prime some interior panels in the next week or two and I expect it to perform just as well.

Definitely stopped the rust on my truck
Stopped the rust on my truck so I could prime and paint it and hasn't come back. Going to buy more since I live in upstate NY and do the whole frame and underneath of my truck.

Green not Grey
This primer worked, but it is army green, not grey color.UPDATE Feb 4, 2015: Amazon has updated the product photo and the color shown is correct. The actual paint color is like the can color (as displayed on my monitor). Notice that the cap color is slightly more yellow than the can color.

Good Paint
Works as intended and needed for proper painting of aluminum and such materials where nominal oxidation stops paint from sticking properly. VHT makes good paints, and absent an occasional bad nozzle (swap with another can) I have no complaints.
