5 stars for Old West, 4 stars for France
*Old West -- absolutely 5 stars, instantly one of our favorite TTR maps.* Old West is a little different from typical TTR, in a couple of ways. It allows 6 individuals to play; you can't play unconnected trains; and you can get points from trains played by other players. You claim a "city center" at the beginning of the game, and you play from there. Once you've built your first route, you can split off in whatever direction you like... but any route you claim has to be connected to a previous route. This makes reaching your destination cities a bit stressful, especially if one of your opponents seems to be heading to the same area on the map. The "city centers" are not only your starting point, they also signify "ownership" of a city. If anyone plays a route into that city, *you* get the points. Billy played a 4-space route into your city center? That's 7 points for you, and zero points for Billy. We really like this map because it forces interaction between players, and it adds quite a bit of drama to the game, and of course because it can be played with 6 people (the only map that allows for 6 individual players). *France -- a solid addition to TTR, and definitely interesting... but the "building" phase gets old.* France adds a brand-new element to TTR: track-building. Most of the routes on the board have no color. The color is assigned by the players. Every time you draw train cards, you have to "build" track somewhere on the board. You choose the color and the length, from a limited selection of track pieces. There's only one 4-space and 5-space track piece for each color, but multiple 2-space and 3-space track pieces. This track-building element is exciting at first, and it can add some player interaction because anyone can play on track, once it's built. If you build a 3-space orange route, and your opponent has 3 orange train cards... they can claim that route before you do. However, we found that as the game gets down to about 10 trains left, the track-building gets pretty old. At that point, you really just want to grab the train cards you need to complete your trips before someone ends the game. Being forced to build track when you don't want to is a bit annoying. (Also, organizing the track pieces adds time to the game setup). We still enjoy France, but we've run into "track-building fatigue" every time we play. Because of that, it doesn't get played too often. *** Overall, this is a 5-star expansion, despite our issues with France's track-building. Old West is an amazing addition to any Ticket to Ride library. Keep in mind this is an expansion and you will need your own train cards and train pieces, from TTR USA or TTR Europe.

Old West side better then France
I am writing this review with the assumption you already own Ticket to Ride the base game (which you will need to play this expansion). I own 45 board games (at the writing of this review) and this is one of 3 ticket to rides in our collection. Yes...I have a board game addiction. We enjoy the Old West side of the board more so then France. France: The board is beautiful and it is fun to learn your France geography. The unique part of this game is all the train track routes are blank and you have to select what color of track to lay. It sounds interesting but...it becomes tedious. You start by thinking "great, I can choose the color of the track I want for my sections". Well...after a while you are done with your track sections for your routes and are just randomly selecting colors to throw around. Long story short....it gets annoying. It is our least favorite Ticket to Ride. Old West: This one is a fun and it plays up to 6!!! This one involves train stations and you have to start laying your train sections from your starting station and they have to continue to connect from there. So long story short....you just cannot buy a section that you may be blocked out of if you have not already made your way there with your trains. A little bit more strategy then the base game. Pick your starting station location wisely. There is also a fun little alien that is put in Roswell to be captured for 10 points. A good addition to the Ticket to Ride line up!

This is a great game
Ticket to Ride is a great base game. This expansion is great because it has two different scenarios with it - Old West and France. Each comes with the new pieces necessary to add to the base game parts to play the game. If you Like Ticket to Ride you will like this expansion. I recommend it.

Ticket To Ride add-on with a twist!
This TTR is very different than the others - the Wild West side is my favorite! You will need the original TTR to play this (for cards and trains). On the France side of the board, not only do you claim routes, but you also have to lay the track (one piece per turn), so you have to be strategic to not lay a track one of the other players might take! The Wild West side is fun and pretty much true to TTR. In this game you put a depot in your starting city and you have to start from your depot to your destination....in a row. You cant place your train cars anywhere on the board (sometimes I work backwards in the original game - you cannot do that in this one). Overall, I think it makes for more fair play. The game doesnt last too long as there arent as many routes, but it's just as fun!

Addicted to these games!
After falling in love with the original Ticket to Ride game, I wanted the France board expansion and absolutely love it! One key difference in the rules is that you have to lay the tracks down before you can even claim them, very fun and challenging! :) Also, the flip side of the board has the American Old West board, and that ended up being my mom and sister’s favorite board of all! Awesome games! :)

A solid Ticket to Ride EXPANSION.
I own several Ticket to Ride (TtR) games and variants, and this one isn't simply a new set of maps, it introduces some interesting dynamics which I will mention below. But first thing I want to say is the board is huge! OK maybe it is comparable to other TtR boards but this one is square as opposed to rectangular so it takes up a decent footprint. The France board: The introduction of having to build train tracks before playing trains on a route in a subsequent turn is an interesting game mechanic. You want to set yourself up to claim a route but need to unlock it by placing a color piece of the same length to become the tracks. It has the potential for some sniping, where another player may build on that route you unlocked. So there is an even greater awareness of what the other players are selecting to unlock their own routes. It was a bit of a challenge for me (Je suis Americaine!) with finding some of the lesser-known cities, just use the destination card image to get your bearings. A great way to learn some French (city) geography. The Old West: The flipside of the board is the Old West and it includes a new set of rules for claiming routes. First you chose a starting city and place one of your 3 town markers there. Now, you can only build out from a city you have built to, meaning you can't hop around the board claiming routes as you need them and as you can pay for them (which is how most versions of TtR are). The Old West game brings in more elements of area control where a player can possibly block others from destinations...far more noticeable than in the original game. There is an additional scoring mechanism. If you are claiming a route between to cities you score as usual unless one of those cities has another player's town marker. Then THEY get the Victory Points, not you. However, when you claim a route, you can discard two matching train cards to place a town in one of the cities you just built to/from. This can mitigate the loss of VP because if two players have a town marker at either end of the stretch you just built, both get the points. Unlike the train stations where they help you get past a deadend, these town markers are there to help you score. In games with 3 or 4 players, I imagine this gets to be very important. In the two-player versions I have played, it was less of an issue. The Old West also has a scoring variant called Alvin where the alien named Alvin moves from town to town whenever a player builds to another player's town, resulting in a 10 point-scoring. I have yet to try out this variant but it would encourage building to people's towns more. (You unlock Alvin by building to Roswell). For a two-player game, I would put my preference on France over the Old West map, but many people seem to prefer the Old West over the France maps. This may be because although TtR is a kind of area control, I feel the Old West board ramps up that element and for me...I am not a big fan of area control games. I know some people love them, so if that is your thing, you will definitely like the Old West. Minor Nitpick: Unlike the plastic train station pieces from Ticket to Ride: Europe, the plastic town pieces for the Old West were kind of plain and cheap looking/feeling. Verdict: Decent additions to the TtR family. 7 stars. A reservedly recommended "buy".

Fun Expansion Set!
This is our first Ticket to Ride Expansion set. We have the original USA and Europe games. This one has some fun twists and the board is attractive. Love that there's a new color, too--white! I would recommend this for kids and adults. It's a lot of fun and doesn't get old. It would be nice if the original rules were in the expansion rules, but I understand why they don't need to be. Nice box, nice quality items. Would make a great gift and also can be used to hone geography skills!

Another good Ticket to ride varient.
You get two games in one box here. Oddly we have never played the France map but the wild west map is great. A must have for ticket to ride fans. My 11 year old loves this one. Rated higher than USA and Europe (actually our highest rated out of the 4 total we own).

Takes Ticket to Ride to new level
This expansion adds two new mechanics to the game: Pennsylvania allows players to collect shares in a railroad company and the UK map requires that a player upgrade their train's technology before travelling more than 3 tracks and propellors before using ferries. If you're a ticket to ride fan, this expansion is a must have.

Great boardgame
We love ticket to ride but beware that this is the "expansion" game. You must have the original game to have all the pieces to play. If you are a fan of the original two versions of the game (Europe / USA), then an expansion game adds different destinations and rules. Lots of fun.
