Great book. Well researched.

I am always searching for good Colt percussion subject books. There s hardly a n y t h i n g out there! This one is r e a l l y good! Covers basic Paterson days, through the Walker period and on through the New Model Army! Good coverage of all the models leading up to the 60 Army. Good variation and amount of photos, of pistols, historical documents/proclamations/ads and so on. Good historical accounts of the use of the pistols and aquisitions etc. , letters of correspondences, testimonials, Army reports, production and sales, presentation models to various recipients and so on, conversions, fakes , , shipping and so on. Great! Just g r e a t . Missing stuff (for a book claimed to be 'Definitive'): 1- Nothing explaining/touching upon why an Army pistol has a Naval scene engraved on the cylinder. 2- Nothing as to why there were 7 1/2 and 8 inch barreled versions. 3- Nothing on Colt's 'Second Generation' model 1860 Army brought back into production in 1979 (the book is not noted to be restricted to covering the model produced in the 19th century) 4- Nothing on the 'Third Generation' licensed production models (kinda like 'Brevetes') created by Colt Black Powder Arms Co. in the 90s ,.Anyway, G E T it!

Excellent work which brings us up to date on this model, which has not attracted much attention from writers in the past compared with the 1851 Navy. Much of the information is applicable to other Colt products of the time too.
