80s Soul Classics

What is Soul? Something for everyone?
Well this is the first of three must have soul compilations for early 2015, after a very lean late 2014! A very much awaited sixth edition to this usually very funky groove collection. And as you will see from my previous reviews, I am a major fan. However where in the past I have had no hesitation to say buy these cds as they are a must, I fear that this cd may divide the soul community. I think that you enjoyment of this cd will depend on what you see as soul. CD1 is probably the best of the two with great tracks from JP Rodgers, Woods Empire and Herbie Hancock ( would love to see his The Fun Tracks on one of these cds). There are some funk tracks like Sun's Be my lady. However Shock and Rumple Stilts Skin are disco tracks and Koko-pop as the name implies is commercial chart soul? Saying that CD 1 is pleasant enough, and all bar one track flows well. CD2 has some great tracks with Curtis Hairston, Patti Austin and Peabo Bryson. However the CD doesn't seem to flow, and the O Bryan and Morgan tracks are very electro. For me the Two Tons, Jermaine Jackson and O Bryan tracks do not seem to fit this series, and I am sure that these artists would have better songs than these. However saying that I have still given this CD 5 stars as it still has around 19 great or good sounds to add to your collection, most of which are on no other soul compilation, and praise must be given to PTG for another good collection, even if for me it seems a little commercial/to electro sounding, and perhaps not quite as good as previous volumes. For major soul collectors I would say listen to the tracks on You tube first and then make your mind up. But remember that PTG have done a brilliant job in bringing us some great sounds onto CD. Still looking forward to volumn 7 of this series but perhaps with a little apprehension this time.If like me you are into 70's 80's soul, but like sing along chart type soul, I can recommend Delegations.classic collection. With 13 up beat songs and two great ballads, it's great for the car or as a cheering up cd. Don't listen to the reviews this is classic rare groove from a very under rated group.

All killer, No filler.
Awesome collection of 80s Soul & Boogie. A bit pricey mind but well worth for the strength of the compilation. All killer, no filler. Highlites......Larry Graham and Ko-ko-Pop, pure class. I have Vol 1 already. Will definitely be buying 2-5.
