Great read. Took a few chapters to fully engage me. You won’t be sorry sticking with it.
This book deals with terrorism threats and is relevant today. Enjoyed the plot and realizing that such a threat could actually happen. Peter Avakian utilized exciting tactics to avoid capture. Reminiscent of James Bond without tech gadgets. Recommend this book. M

I've been waiting
Christie is my favorite author, hands down, and if you haven't read his previous novels, you are sadly missing out. This is a new story with a new character and setting and it is his best effort yet in my opinion. The story is tight, the prose realistic and funny, but what Christie does best is action. Every scene, every word is exquisitely crafted and keeps you turning pages. I can't wait until the next volume is published, will have to re-read his previous works to pass the time!

Absolutely, positively edge of your seat suspense
With a love story tossed in. Unputdownable. The last 60% of this novel will make your heart race and your mouth dry. This isn't the book to read yourself to sleep with

Superior action/suspense/thriller set in volatile Beijing
Highly skilled Retired US Army Special Forces Colonel Peter Avakian is in Beijing, running security for an American gymnastics team. An assassination puts him adrift in an increasingly hostile China, his only ally an equally cut-off team surgeon. Doggedly on their heels is a determined high-ranking police officer. Avakian escalates the havoc and destruction to cover their run for the Mongolian border. The story is filled with suspense, action, humor, and fascinating insights into the Chinese character amidst the instability of a repressive regime. The violence and action is completely believable, sudden, and ruthless. And yet somehow Avakian maintains his hero status. Author William Christie is in a class of his own. Highly recommended!
