Finally, what appears to be a reliable vent-based holder for larger phones. I have a S8 plus and previously a Samsung Note, both with add-on external case protectors, and both being included among larger phones regardless of an external case. I've had two other vent-based holders that were unable to handle these larger phones at times when turning at even moderate velocity, let alone at the high velocity driving that is at times required to avoid zombies and other unexpected road obstacles that necessitate rapid response. Although I've only tested this Patefly mount for one day, I’ve quickly noticed a big difference from my previous supposed large phone holders: this one seems to work and is stable. I give it big marks for reliability thus far. Some notable features and differences from other mounts I’ve purchased: A vent clip that has rubber or vinyl on the vent clamps, and a slot in the middle of the vent clamps that allows deeper placement around a horizontal vent support. This capability demonstrates keen awareness and thoughtfulness among the mount designers. A quick release that encourages a solid connection to the vent. The clamp coatings also help with this. Very importantly: two supporting braces that rest below the vent, rather than one. The two braces are key in helping stability. A quick release for the clamps that hold onto the phone. Although a quick release was included in one of the previous phone holders I purchased, this one is very efficient. Concluding observations: It is frustrating to say the least when a phone exits its car mount during a turn, especially when needing to steer quickly around a zombie or other unexpected obstacle. I don't see this happening, at least as often, with this mount. Although I have only one day with this phone mount, it seems to have capacity and stability that goes well beyond my previous large phone mounts.

Update 1/2019 - see attached pictures. 1. The vent clip is not secure, so a little bump or shake in the car will make the mount fall from vent. 2. Scratches my dash console - the rubber piece fell off from all the falling and the plastic mold around where the rubber piece would have been was scratching against my dash console and ended up tearing it up. =========================== Works well with my iPhone 8 with Otterbox case. Sits nicely against the car vent. I guess only gripe - I wish they find a better way to secure the swivel socket. The current set up is a little cumbersome and not very efficient.

I travel for work, so I require it to be removable from vehicles without damage. Also, since it doesn't utilized magnets, I don't need to be concerned about damage to my phone, or falling from dash in traffic. Great design, zero damage to vehicle or phone itself. Super easy to use, and since it doesn't use an adhesive, it can be utilized from car to car, without the risk of becoming loosened and falling from the dash. Firmly grips both the phone and car vent, yet has two detachment switches to remove phone, or from the car quickly with one hand. Also, I love the fact that you can charge phone while in the device. I couldn't ask for a better design!

To be honest, this is one of the worst purchases I have made in a long time. It doesn't work very well at all. The clamp that holds it to the vent is terrible. It doesn't squeeze hard enough to hold the vent securely and I've knocked the phone off several times by accident. The ring that tightens the swivel portion down comes loose far to easily and the mount flops forward. If you hit a bump, it flops forward and then the whole thing, phone and all falls off the vent and ends up on the floor. I drive for two of the popular rideshare companies, and I bought two fo these to hold my phones. I'd looked at several different mounts and ended up settling for this one and ended up regretting it on my very first day of use.

I used this holder to clip onto my dashboard vents and hold my phone Ina position where I could see my GPS maps while driving. It fit well in my Toyota but sisnt work in my wife's car due to the position and vertical orientation of the vents. In my car, the mount did a good job securely holding several different models of phones. It's pretty easy to load in and remove; the side clamps are easy to use. Ordered this item in 2018 and January 2021 it finally gave out. I think over time the heat coming out of the vents loosened or melted the glue holding the rubber clamps that clip onto your vents. The rubber eventually slipped off the metal underneath and wouldn't stay clamped on the vent anymore. You could probably try to glue them back on but I think eventually the heat will do its thing again.

I wouldn’t buy it again. I have a pop socket on the back of my iPhone 8 so my phone doesn’t fit properly on the bottom ledge and always falls through. If I push the bottom of the phone in the top of the phone falls forward and falls out too. The holder always seems to pull down too so my phone can be difficult to see when reading directions. And I really dislike the release lever on the back. So even if I didn’t have the pop socket on the back I still wouldn’t purchase this. I had another one of these but he release was a button and it was much easier. Sometimes I find myself having to use 2 hands to release the phone if I am finally able to shove it in there. All in all I wish I could find the other one I had that was bought as a gift and I would Not re-purchase this one.

Great phone holder! Like that it holds my iPhone 7+ on its side for wide view coverage. Holds fairly good on to the vent all tho when u have the phone to the side the locking isn’t strong enough to hold the phone it slowly slide down due to weight of the phone . I Would have gave it 4 stars but it’s been two weeks & one arm already Gabe out and doesn’t retract to hold the phone only a matter of time before the top one gives out and I’m left with a useless phone holder.

This is exactly what I was looking for, an inexpensive mount for my iPhone 8 plus. The clamp for the vent fin is tight and secure. The padded surfaces ensure that nothing on my care is scratched. The mount securely holds my phone in landscape or portrait. It is very easy to open with the "trigger" on the back and then when the phone is placed into the mount the clamps on the side are released to add tension to hold the phone in place. A couple of cons: It will block one air vent so be prepared for that. Occasionally I have to tighten the swivel part of the mount.
