Basic Bamboo Shoe Rack
Background: I have been scouting for a bamboo shoe rack for the past few weeks. I didn't nneed anything fancy; after all, its just going to house my dirty shoes. Finally saw this one on sale for $20 and thought it seemed like a fair price for three levels.Unboxing and assembly: It came in three folded, hinged "panels" and six rods. There were 13 screws and 6 wooden pegs to join the single and double levels. It wasn't very intuitive but the instructions were sufficient. It took me (a not very "handy" person) about 20 minutes to assemble. I did crack one of the panels, so be ware not to over-tighten the screws! Results: I can see why others have called it flimsy. The bamboo is on the thin side (around 1 cm thick). That said, it doesn't wobble a lot when shaken (see video). The multiple layers (aka 1 single layer with a second double layer) seems weird. The joint between the two parts is noticeable (see pic). All that said, I wasn't looking for anything more than a basic shoe rack and that's what I got. I wouldn't pay more than $20 for it. The less $, the better because it is very lightweight (although I wouldn't use the word flimsy). If you looking for something robust, this isn't the shoe rack for you.

You get what you pay for
This might be one of the worst quality things Iโve ever purchased from Amazon BUT itโs held up which has been really surprising since itโs held together with hopes and dreams. This little shoe rack aspires to be the fanciest shoe rack in the world and Iโm rooting for it. Until its dreams come true, Iโm hoping it will continue holding my shoes and not cave in like a dying star. Also, Chihuahua for scale. His name is Riley and heโs very old but even he respects the shoe rack. Be like Riley, shoe some respect.TL:DR: I kind of like it for its basic design, annoying to build and horrendous quality. Iโd recommend it for someone who wants a shoe rack but canโt justify spending $30+ on Amazon anymore. Itโs awful but Iโve come to love its simplicity.TL:DR for the TL:DR: Buy it or donโt, itโs your money:)

Splinter central!
This looked like a nice shoe rack for surprisingly cheap. Well, you get what you pay for! The shelves do not fully lay evenly, as they are cut too long for the metal piece in the middle to fully fold. Also, splinters everywhere! Had to wipe every pice down twice because wood chips kept flying off. Now that it's completed, it looks fine. It comes with additional pegs if you want to buy more shelves and continue stacking more, which is nice. This might not be a permanent piece for me, though.

Great inexpensive shoe rack. Boots won't fit but great for flats
Works well for the price. It's a little flimsy to put together and I got a splinter but it will work for the space I had. I have just enough room under a closet built in to put bins or a small rack. I am using this rack for flat shoes. The middle row they will fit stacked on top of each other but the bottom won't stack easily. I fit 15 pairs. Boots won't fit and I'm a size 6.5-7.5 and they just fit without going over the edge. It bows in the middle where it bends and the holes on top and screw ends are an eye sore, so I wouldn't want to put it in public. Works great for a closet though.

Frustrating, unnecessary design flaw
There's a really frustrating and completely avoidable design choice here. For some reason, each of the shelves is made up of two separate pieces, connected by a pair of hinges. The hinges come pre-installed, with the shelf folded flat over itself. The problem is that the hinges are installed in such a way that the shelf can't be unfolded to lay flat; the edges of each half of the shelf run into each other, and with this being bamboo, I did hear the beginnings of crackling when I tried to test if I could force it.Instead, I had to unscrew the hinges, lay the shelves flat, and screw them back in again, so consider this your warning - you will need a Phillips screwdriver that is not included with the provided tools. However, the drill holes were also placed to better facilitate the folded position (or possibly had worn down that way while folded), so even when I reinstalled the hinges, the angle of the holes naturally made it want to sit at a slight angle, pointing up like the roof of a house. I don't know how many times I unscrewed and rescrewed those hinges before I got them to the point of BASICALLY being flat, although they still try to bend up a little if there's nothing resting on them to weight the middle down.I can assume this design choice was made so the same parts could be used for this and some other design with shelves half the width, and/or so it can be shipped in a smaller box. I can respect that. However, using pre-installed hinges is such an unforced error. The whole issue could be avoided by just leaving the two halves of the shelves unconnected for shipping, and drilling the holes based on the angle needed to lie flat, not to accommodate folding, and using plates instead of hinges so it CAN'T bend in the middle once assembled.Anyway. Once you get it assembled and sitting flat to your liking, it is as good a bamboo shelf as any other. If I were doing it all again, I'd look for a similar looking shelf from a different seller, and hope that one would be better thought out.
