Nice little book good value

My mother had a similar upbringing in rural Ireland so I was interested to read this book. However, I found it slightly too detailed, more like a diary detailing every small event so ended up giving up about half way through. Might be more interesting to someone who experienced a similar upbringing.

Bought as a gift for my mother, she's loves it, made her think of her childhood alot.

This is a collection of detailed personal memories, rather than a storybook.Each chapter is about a person or an event.The last chapter repeated some things already mentioned. Then the book finished.I think this book was written more for the author than the reader.

I enjoyed this book from start to finish: the details of an “ordinary” childhood in rural Ireland in the 1930s and 1940s. The book describes a way of life where children helped out doing chores before and after the school day; walked miles through the countryside to visit relatives; made their own entertainment in the outdoors; grew up knowing their neighbours; followed customs and traditions handed down through the generations.A loving tribute to a people and way of life that has forever vanished.
