Fate of the Sun King (Artefacts of Ouranos, 3)

This was another five-star read for me. The best way I can describe this series is that it feels like watching a movie instead of reading a book. The writing is incredibly immersive, making it easy to picture every scene, connect with the characters, and get lost in the world. The character development continues to be one of the strongest parts of the series. I loved seeing the relationships grow naturally, and the world-building expands without ever feeling overwhelming. Even though life kept interrupting my reading, every time I picked the book back up I was immediately drawn back into the story. That’s a sign of excellent storytelling. I finished wanting to start the next book immediately. If you’ve enjoyed the earlier books in the series, this one absolutely delivers.

Spice level: 2 Kinda Spoilers everywhere, I hid them though. It's a fun, easy, decent read. Tropes in this one similar to first and second book. More POVs, including the flashbacks though... I do think the character development is always on point! History and world building were good BUT read below for more on the history part. I have similar complaints from the second book in this one too. The flashback POV interruptions just aren't doing it for me, and book two and three flashbacks could have been condensed, and saved for ONE reveal point in the story, make them a big reveal from the priestess, at ONE time or something. It's just so janky and jarring when the flashbacks happen and at first, I was like who in the world is even talking, what's happening? Oh, and the addition of the Gods ABOVE Lor's world's Gods... I didn't like that quite so much. It gave weird Asteri vibes but not as mean and not as well done... starting to feel more and more similar to ACOTAR and CC from SJM. Maybe we'll get more info on them next book??? Lor reminds me a lot of Bryce right now. I know this whole paragraph sounds harsh and I don't mean it to be so bad, I'm terrible with words. I hate flashbacks in any book when they are jarring and not well placed. I like them better as hints and imagery rather than blatantly telling us, like quips here and there, or stereotypes and attitudes presented by characters. If that makes sense. I honestly think book 2 and 3 could have been combined/condensed and it would have been 100% a 5-star read for me. The group also does the whole we're supposed to be hiding but we're in plain sight thing in this one and I'm just like okay no one recognizes you??? I guess the priestess does but meh she's minor. Okay ma'am this one is going to be harsh... I HATE the 'lighting bug' pet name... I think I liked inmate better (and I didn't like that one either LOL). I missed the angst in this one lol! Despite all that, I am glad to see Lor and Nadir come together and the scene at her birthday party was so CUTE (minus the lightning bug name)! MA'AM THAT CLIFFHANGER ENDING I CAN'T WAIT FOR NOVEMBER I'M SCREAMING AND I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT IT FOR DAYS! I'M SO ANGRY LOL I've been going over all the details trying to decide if it was really him or someone else plus what happened to him excuse me?! I really think it was Nadir's sister, or Tristan or literally anyone else who betrayed Lor. NOT NADIR, not my man! Also, Atlas getting what he deserves and Gabriel getting free to be with Tyr! HELL YES! I can't wait for November for the conclusion! All that being said I really did enjoy this book but it's still not quite a 5-star read.

...is aching. I never imagined an ending to a book like this one. Who would have known. It make sme angry but makes me think that there are miracles. Who knows. But with how things led up to the ending could make sense for what choices Lor will make, for not just her, but for Ouranos. Highly recommend!!! So far, this book is my favorite of the series.

This was such a great story. Unfortunately, the author made huge mistakes in this book. Spoilers Queen Cerce: She was never a Queen. The continent knew her as Primary and Princess of Heart There was only one witness to what she did, Cloris. While Cloris could have spread the rumors, she claims she was hiding. It doesn’t make sense that the story became a universal truth without witnesses. In her last moments she gave birth to Lor’s mother and witnessed her become Primary. Cerce believes this means she is Queen and steals her mother’s crown (which is missing a piece, and is essentially broken). This is supposed to be the act that triggers fifty years of lost power for everyone on the continent. However, she didn’t actually steal the power. Cloris claims that the Primary power leaves her and goes to Lor’s mother, leaving Deadra as Queen. So…no stolen power. Cerce then goes on to bind herself to Wolf. We’ve been told that the destruction in Heart is the consequence of this action of binding two Primaries together without the proper changes to the ceremony. How can this be a problem if she is no longer the Primary and her mother is still the queen? The whole background of Heart’s destruction falls apart. The Staff also shows Lor a vision of what went down in those final minutes. This story jives with Cloris’ version. So there is no way out for the author there. Tyr: The true Sun King is held prisoner by Atlas. The Warders are kept in check by Atlas forcing his cooperation in binding them through the torture of his lover, Gabriel. This is supposed to have broken him and made him do whatever Atlas tells him. This is completely unbelievable. Atlas tortures Gabriel to make Tyr order the Warders under his control. Why wouldn’t Tyr just tell them to free him and kill/capture Atlas? Atlas has no offensive power, is not even the Primary, and is easily subdued by the Warders at the end. There are several more smaller inconsistencies, but it just ruins it. I gave this three stars because I am holding out hope that the author finds some way to fix these mistakes in the fourth book. She is very creative and good be great.

This book became a bit too predictable for me to give it 5 stars, but still a solid 4 star read. The story is still action packed. Gabriel might be my fav character. I can’t wait to see if he gets a HEA. I sure hope so. Although, I fear it will be bittersweet. Now Nadir and Lor. I am happy the ly finally got together in this book, but once they did, it was all in. No more hesitation, and I found myself missing their banter as it became too lovey dovey for me. I did not love the switch from 2 POV to many. When a series does this part way through, it always loses me a bit. I’m not sure where it is going with all of these ‘god’ type characters, not sure about that part of the story. For those reasons, I knocked off a star. Overall still quite entertaining. Awesome to see Atlas finally get what was coming. I sure hope Rion gets it next! Spice 3/5🌶️ Overall 4/5 ⭐️

The magic system is awesome in this world. I also love the political intrigue. Lor is badass, and I'm gonna need her to kill a certain King before this is over. That ending; we aren't even gonna talk about that ending (I didn't cry because I know it will be okay somehow). Thank you, Nisha J. Tuli, for creating this world I Love living in!

I AM SQUEALING ABOUT MY HAPPINESS FOR LOR AND NADIR WHILE SCREAMING ABOUT THAT ENDING!!! I loved this book so so so much and can not wait for book 4! Lor and Nadir, after all their ups and downs in book 2, are racing back to where things all began now that they have what they need to put the puzzle pieces together. The stakes in this book are high between their enemies making moves, Nadir’s father out to get them, and a love that burns brightly but threatens to be snuffed out if they can’t unearth an ancient ritual. We got to see some old favorites from book 1 again, notably GABRIEL, and the role he plays is so much more important than we first thought. I love him so much and I loved the turn this book took with the storyline around the king. Everything is coming full circle and the relationships between the siblings and found family they’ve formed is incredible. This ragtag bunch has my heart. Nadir and Lor’s romance is a strong presence in the story and I love them dearly. When they are both on the same page, my heart exploded with happiness. And the spice is so good! But what I love most is how ride or die they are for each other. They’re so perfect together. Figuring things out doesn’t mean it’s all smooth sailing because Lor still has trust issues but even when she wobbles, she’s able to work through it. She might fear being blinded by affection again but she knows he loves her deeply. I now just need book 4 and my life will be complete. Holy. Cow. I have just finished the third installment of the Artefacts of Ouranos and when I say, "There are few words" I mean it. I have fallen in love with Nisha J. Tuli, her writing style and truly awesome characters from essentially the first word I've read. Discovering Lor in the Trial of the Sun Queen was an absolute delight and has stuck with me. This third installment is full of all the things I love about series that put forward strong character development, plot twists that grip your heart and real moments/choices/sacrifices that burn you to the bone. Tuli has poured her heart and soul into this world and cast and it shows. Every chapter answered questions, allowed the audience to breathe and process before presenting more questions and twists. Tuli's blend of traditional fantasy elements and tropes combined with fresh ideas, betrayals, declarations of love and lore from distant and ancient cultures makes a truly lasting impression. I do not want this series to end. I do not want to go without these wonderful characters. Already firmly a "auto-buy author" and a "regular reread" for a series, it will be difficult to review this book as there is so much that happens and I want to avoid spoilers at all costs. Know this: Lor's journey continues to unfold, her true depth of strength and character revealed and her bonds with her family, love and friends tested. She continues to come to terms with her trauma, pain, vengeance but also accepts her past and looks toward the future with more optimism and hope. The love she shares with her family and Nadir is beautiful and had made me smile with tears brimming many times because Lor absolutely deserves this. The uphill battle against Atlas, Rion and the ticking clock for Ouranos challenge Lor at every turn but with her rag-tag team and her determination to right the wrongs of the past but also find closure for her own past, she is destined for success although the threat of heartache and ruin is always a risk. Hands down my favorite book of 2024.

This was a book of revelations, dark secrets, and acceptance, and followed on from the previous book where we discovered Lor's origins and hid behind our metaphorical cushions at the teasing torture of Nadir and Lor's growing connection. We join Nadir and Lor as they journey through Heart, and onwards towards Achelion in their quest to find the key to unlock her power. Never fear fellow romantics! At long long last we see Lor acknowledge that belonging does not have to mean slavery and subservience. Many characters were introduced in the past and present, and this added wonderfully to the story and worldbuilding introduced in the first two books. Hold on to your pages, people, because there are many shocks to be had, and a cliffhanger that will have you crying out. For every reader who delights in the delicious angst of a slow burn. (Yes, I promise I let them do it in this one. I couldn’t take it anymore either.) And do it they did! I was absolutely BLESSED to be able to receive an ARC for the third installment of the Artefacts of Ouranos series and to say this has been a highly anticipated read for me would be an understatement. Honestly, the worst par of reading this as an ARC is that now I have to wait even longer for the fourth book. The character glossary at the beginning was hilarious and I swear no one writes an opening line like Nisha. Case in point: Pain throbs behind my left eye, reminding me of the time an angry lover twisted my balls in his grip after finding me buried between his sister’s thighs. This book brought us some new POVs, and while I was not a fan of the Serce chapters in the previous book, I liked the new perspectives in this one. We get a bit of the story from Gabriel this time, and it was a nice change. My overall review? It was good. We got more of the banter between Lor and Nadir and a few making-each-other-jealous bits, but we also finally got the culmination of Lor and Nadir's physical relationship. Much of the book was them planning their moves on the Aurora King - which isn’t my favourite plot line - but then SO DAMN MUCH happened in the last 15% that my head was spinning. You just KNEW shit was about to go down because they got to be so happy for too many pages. I am a big fan of Lor and Nadir so seeing them finally come to terms with what they are to each other was very satisfying. That cliffhanger though? I am dead. Want to swoon for Nadir? Thought so. “The blood of your enemies, Lor. Ask me, and I’ll slay anyone for you, Burn the world to ash if you desire.” “She’s not just my mate. Not just the woman I’ve fallen in love with. She is every star in the sky and wish I’ve ever wanted.” “I want to be your safe place, Lor. No matter what happens, I will always be there for you.” Seriously. Nadir is perfection. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🌶️🌶️🌶️
