quite expensive but great value. provides a highly detailed and comprehensive account of the Stones' career and the gear they used, accompanied by great photography.

Great book describing every step of the band's career (and also solo careers of its members) and all the gear used. Awesome descriptions and pictures of every Tele ever used by Keef (and the rest of the stuff...), down to specific alterations, repairs, tunings and scratches. Also lot's of interesting background facts regarding every instrument, and the recording sessions and tours they were used on, interesting for both the band's fans and instrument aficionado (also lot's of info on guitars but also amps, basses, drum kits, the mellotron,...). The book's size makes it a bit dificult to manage but the large and detailled pictures more then make up for it. Great buy, worth it's price (even at 40£)!

Although there are many books available about the individual members of the Stones and specific periods in their history, the number of well-written books covering their complete career is surprisingly small (in my opinion, Bill Wyman's Rolling With The Stones and Stephen Davis' Old Gods Almost Dead are the best), so this book is doubly welcome; firstly for telling a familiar story in a readable and entertaining manner and secondly, for presenting it in an original way, by telling the tale through the many instruments the Stones have used over the years. This book is big, beautiful, authoritative and represents excellent value-for-money - no Stones fan worth their salt should be without this - I predict it will become a collector's piece. The books on the Beatles and Hendrix' Gear, in the same format, are also well worth having.

Being a fan of both The Beatles and The Stones, i was impressed by the authors highly detailed book about Beatle instruments. It shows a wealth of detail for anyone like myself who once played in bands and has an interest in guitars, basses and amplifiers of all makes. When i read that the author was preparing a similar work for the Rolling Stones, i just had to order this book.It arrived at the weekend and i have read it from cover to cover ( which is quite a lot of pages - this book being almost twice the size of the Beatles book ) Like The Beatles book it contains a vast amount of pictures i had never seen before, with a wealth of detail that should impress any fan of the band who also has an interest in rock instruments. A most impressive work . I would definitely recommend this one.

This big and weight book doesn't talk only about all the musical intruments and accessories The Rolling Stones used along their 50 years of career begining from the first LP and going forward each LP they made till the last one, but it's also full of a lot of photos of members of the band playing his own musical instrument or showing his own accessories used also for realseas, there are also big photos especially about guitars with the descriptions of all the details of that guitar and you can find also small photos especially of guitars with written in a very small way the price and the webside where you can buy the item you like. I've never seen a so well done book like this !!! BELIEVE ME: DON'T MISS IT !!!!

What a wonderfull book, full of détails about the recordings , the Equipment used at different stages of the Stones career. Plus many anecdotes I had never heard of... It covers that , from the beginning in the early 60' until 2008. Pictures of instruments are great. A very well documented.book. Until now the best book about the stones , very cheap too, for the quality of it. 500 pages of real delight of you love the stones, or even if you only love guitars and amps you will find great pleasure in reading it.

Not bad

Very, very extensive catalogue of the Stones' equipment. Heavy thing though so not one to take on holiday! Not only is it a year by year book of equipment but also tells the story of the stones and what events happened when. Very pleased to see a lot of quotes from Mick Taylor as he is often disregarded in some books of the bands life.

The overly long title says it all and I will explain. Last year I bought the book Beatles Gear and read it cover to cover. Something I have not done in a long time. And was blown away the extensive and exhaustive coverage of the instruments they used. It also detailed how they utilized these tools to make their innovative and everlasting mark on the music world. Having finished this amazing book and gaining new knowledge of this legendary group. I felt it was lacking in the later years of the band in terms of coverage. this is understandable due to the fact of the years of 1968 and 1969 being relatively undocumented in the area of their instruments and some aspects of their studio work. I searched up the author on this site and up came this book. Being a fan of the Stones as well I promptly pre-ordered this book on August 30, 2013 with a release date set for the next month on the 29. I couldn't wait for it to be released. Well I had to wait and wait while they kept pushing the release date further and further back. Until it finally ended up being set to be released in the next year. And even that wasn't set in stone. So last month while on a hunt for answers I turned to the internet. There I found an article on Gibson.com about the book titled "Rolling Stones Gear To Be Released Next Month". After reading through the usual banter about the book I came across a release date Feb 4. Next I went to this site to confirm it and it was the same here. Finally some hope for an imminent release. A couple days later I check again only to find "Out Of Stock Will Order More Soon" instead of the usual release date. This had me baffled and wondering what was going on. Noticing the only review and a 5 one star titled "Will It Ever Be Released?" I read it out of the curiosity. All it was detailed was the reviewers frustration with the continual postponement of this book and posed the same question as the title at the end. Hope shattered again. Well yesterday I went to Barnes&Nobel for some new reading material. And while perusing among the various titles in my favorite usual section of the store dealing with music and musicians along with all that deals with that subject. I happened to spot a very large book sitting on the shelf dedicated to The Rolling Stones. Picking it up I noticed the title Rolling Stones Gear: All The Stone's Instruments From Stage To Studio. Finally its out is all I could think. After this initial thought I leafed through it a bit and let me just say the amount of info is stupefying detailing the instruments, studio sessions and their live shows. And the pictures amazing with a full page spread of Charlie Watts 1956-7 Gretsch Round Badge drum set up and another one for Keith Richards famous 1953 Fender Telecaster Micawber just to name two, truly gear porn. That coupled with the shear size of the book which is 672 pages long akin to a volume of an encyclopedia set this one is well worth the wait. Truthfully I am intimidated by this book but still can't wait till I get my copy some time this upcoming week. Lets just say you cant read this in one go and you will be hacking at this one for years. And it clearly surpasses Beatles Gear in everyway but this is understandable due to the authors Andy Babiuk's and Greg Prevost's love of the Stones both being world authorities in the area of all things related to their music. Along with the obvious influence they have imparted on the works of the Andy and Greg's band The Chesterfield Kings. So Rolling Stones fans rejoice the bible on their music both in studio and live as well as the instruments they used to craft it is finally here!

C'est le meilleur livre ... ever.

ストーンズの使用楽器の研究本だが、まだバーストが中古ギターとして売られていた時代から現在に至る楽器の流行の変遷の書としても興味深い。現在ではすでに存在しないメーカーやギアも数多く、日本製のリッケンコピーなども登場し、ビザール系に興味のある方にもおすすめ。ただし、ハードカバーの重量ある大型本なので本棚から出すのに腕力が必要。

Per chi ama I Rolling Stones, per chi è musicista ma non solo un libro seminale. L'evoluzione della strumentazione elettrica ed acustica dai lontani anni 60 ad oggi vista attraverso le canzoni degli Stones. Si può ascoltare i brani e leggere le didascalie e il testo ed apprezzare ulteriormente la musica studiando l'evoluzione sonora dai primi e più grezzi suoni (con un mood selvaggio e veramente rock) sino alle più raffinate produzioni di oggi. Come e dove è nato il suono e come è stato plasmato anche attraverso gli strumenti da una delle band seminali. Istruttivo ed imperdibile.
