Easily the best sub-$15 pen that I have encountered.
About the only realistic value comparison is the Jinhao X159, which was also a value breakthrough when it was released. But I find the 9019 a great improvement. The build quality feels like a major step up -- the overall fit/finish is very good. The plastic is satisfyingly thick in all areas, and doesn't feel flimsy anywhere. Very large and attractive nib. Also, I flushed the nib with water before use, and found traces of blue ink -- this confirmed other reports that Jinhao is doing some actual QC steps/testing on the nib/feed. It was reflected in a perfect writing experience that required zero nib adjustment out of the box. Better than many high-end pens I've owned. This adds enormous value at this price point. My nib is EF, which is highly recommended if you need to do any small writing or math. These Chinese nibs tend to run large. Best to think of them as one size larger than advertized. The pen holds an excellent quantity of ink -- the new converter design holds more than double that of a standard international converter. A very welcome improvement.I went with the wine color, which I find pleasing. Nothing spectacular, but nice. The size and shape are extremely comfortable to my long fingers. Possibly the most comfortable writer I have. But, this is an area that you'll need to think about -- the pen is very big, compared to the average fountain pen. It's large enough that certain modes of carry start to become inconvenient. For this reason, I don't use it as a "carry everywhere" pen, which is a bit of a pity, because the price/quality/features would otherwise make it ideal for that kind of use.Almost nothing can compare at this price. Two of my other value favorites are the asvine v126 and the penbbs 480. But, each of those are *multiples* of the 9019's price.

Now that's a pen!
If you enjoy a good-sized pen without all the extra weight, this may be a good choice for you. I love the big nib and huge ink capacity, as well as the attractive price and classic design. I have had my share of fussy fountain pens, but this bad boy works great right out of the box.

A great writer
Much better than any other Jinhao pen I have. This is a fantastic value for such a satisfying writer. Super smooth with just enough feedback for good control. The ink capacity is great with an upgraded and well constructed cartridge converter. The transparent versions reveal your ink supply. The nib performs flawlessly. Works well with inexpensive papers and is superb on Tomoe River. I'm using with the lubricated Iroshizuku Kon-peki ink. What you might not like is that the barrel is quite large although a medium sized hand can handle the pen easily. The nib is stiff with no flex. Potential problems might lie in the quality of the plastic body. But for this price you cannot beat the performance. It is so good I bought a second one.I hope Jinhao continues with more offerings of this calibre.

Incredible value, looks very nice, very large body
Pros:- This is one of my favorites in my collection, it looks very classy- The nib writes very well- The oversize cartridge is greatCons:- The clip is VERY stiff, so it's not too useful- The pen is also very thick. I knew this going in, but it still fatigues my hand after writing for a while. It also makes it not fit into some pen holdersOverall, I really like the pen. I'll probably end up getting another one some time... clear? blue? I'm not sure yet.

Wonderful, large sized pen, writes great!
Fountain pens can get expensive… too expensive often times. Jinhao has stepped it up in terms of look and feel with the 9019. I own Sailor and Pilot pens and have found myself using this one a lot lately! The EF isn’t quite as thin as my Pilot Custom F but ink flow is great and feels nice in hand. When stored with the nib up for a couple days, it can take a bit to get the ink flowing again. Opening it up and carefully twisting the converter can help speed up the process, as is tradition with most other fountain pens I’ve owned.I normally like to post my cap but this one is so big I often don’t. Posting is okay but it doesn’t always feel fully secure. A tight grip can dislodge it. Removing the cap takes around 2 1/2 rotations. I’ve had this pen a couple months now. It’s been great to use and and much easier on the wallet, especially for pens of this size (same as X159)! If you’re on the fence, it’s worth a try!!

Not great but could be worse
I couldn't pass up trying this fountain pen with the price point being so low. It is very comfortable to use, and the very large nib somehow makes you want to write with the pen. However, the flow is spotty and the pen scratches on the paper. I noticed some papers (the more absorbent) seem to enhance the ink flow, but it still leaves a lot to be desired. Again, it is very comfortable to hold due to it's size, but with the ink flow and scratchiness, I would NOT buy this again.

Perfect!
A big pen for my big hand. I don’t feel like I’m holding a tiny toothpick sized pen. And the refillable reservoir holds lots of ink.

Beautiful and smooth
Great looking pen. The fine nib is smooth writes smoothly and is on the wet side. I would say it writes more like a medium than a fine. This pen is a buy.

excellent find
I am happy to say that my experience with this pen is a revelation. I was sorry to read about the other reviewers experience and to be honest if I had read before probably wouldn't have purchased mine. The No 8 nib writes really well, ink flow is great. I have a few £100+ pens and this is up with them in writing quality. The plastic barrel and finish is what you would expect for the price so overall im very happy. I have just ordered another for my daughter to take to school so really good writing and not too much of a drama if it gets lost or damaged for the price.
