Hootenanny Games Snarkas Card Game, Gem-Collecting & Adding, 2-4 Players

This is a great game. Like, a really great game. It's easy to learn and fun to play, but the more you play it the more you realize there's good strategy to it. It's very nicely made (high quality), and the foil scoring cards are a really nice touch. Good for adults and/or kids. My 9-year-old loves it. It's also in a small-ish box, so good for on-the-go.

It took us a little while to figure out the strategy of how to play. If you just play to pickup cards on the flop, it continuously sets up the next player to get a Snarkas and score a lot of points. It is a trick-taking game like heart s or spades, so there is some strategy on when to hold or play certain cards. It works pretty well in 3 player games, once everyone understands the rules. Also, it wasn’t quite clear in the instructions that whoever plays first on the first deal will play first for every re-deal in the same round. Next round we start with the next player, and so on. Getting a score of 10 gems in a round is a decent score, getting 20 or above is a great score. We play to 100 and it takes about 5-7 rounds. We have yet to try partners (4 players), but I will update my review once we try.

Haven't played it yet but it looks fun from the videos I watched. The quality of the box and game is very good. Sturdy. I appreciated the box can be used to store the parts. I understand companies using less cardboard in the little packaging of card games like Flip7, Snailed It, etc but you can't use that packaging to store the contents once opened. So I have to get storage containers for them. Now that's a waste. So, thank you Hootenanny Games for being smart!

Game concept is fun but some of the mechanics are redundant or outright useless. There are bonus points that are based on a combination of cards you must collect, but with any number of players, the odds of collecting the required cards are so low that no one was able to get it in over 10 separate play through of the game. I ended up having to adjust some of the rules and replace cards with cards that I made instead, with more reasonable mechanics. Out of the box the game is playable but it’s not really exciting or enjoyable without lots of “house rules” to fix the unbalanced mechanics.

Snarkas is our new FAVORITE game!! It’s quick to learn and a ton of fun to play. It has been a hit with all of our kids as well as with adult friends. I just ordered a second one to keep in the car for times when the kids need some entertainment :) Highly recommend!!

This game is kind of addictive in the greatest way possible. My six and eight year olds love it and it’s just as fun for the adults. I’ve already started giving it as a gift. Great game!

I've played Snarkas many times. If you can add to 10, this is the game to play. I've played with 6 - 8 year old grandsons and my 66 - 68 year old friends. I am not sure which group was more competitive. Everyone loved it!
