Are these sponges washable? How long do they last?

Absolutely fabulous and will last a long time. I am on my first one and think it will be my only sponge for at least a year if not more.

Does this break down in a landfill or Is it made of toxic plastic?

These Foam Bath Sponges are made from a high quality PU Foam - they are not natural sea sponges, so won't break down quickly in a landfill, but will provide a longer life , and there are many ways to reuse them for other things after their time as a shower mate are done!

Do u have to switch it out after 1 month like most shower sponges and cloths?
