Can this be painted??

I am sure it can but it’s not meant to be painted it’s meant to be tiled.

Is this installing directly to studs behind dry wall or on after drywall ?

First I would not use dry wall for a shower. I would use water friendly cement backer board. But With my KBRS system they wanted you to put a 1/8 inch out on your studs. This will fit nicely on the stud sand under the backer board. I put it on top of mine and you have to flare the thin-set so your tile will not stand out. I can see a slight bulge in mine so if I was to do it over it would be under. This works great and the tile sticks and looks great.

The item header description states 25 x 17 and the specs state 14.8 x 14.2. ? I believe the specs are incorrect. Can you tell me the correct size?

25x17 = outsideof the flange. 14.8 x 14.2 is not correct, it should 14.5 x 22.5 this is the opening between the studs (or opening in the wall) Good luck 😉
