SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY AN INTRODUCTION TO BIBLICAL DOCTRINE
Excellent condition and the print is quite easy to read. Written in a warm devotional straight forward deliberately uncomplicated style, it would appeal to any Christian who wants to have a deeper knowledge and understanding of Biblical Doctrine. One does not get lost in technicalities and I am very pleased that I bought this book, I wish I had known about it years ago when I first became a Christian as it would have saved me a lot of problems.

Standard reference book for understanding Christian beliefs
If you want to know what the Bible really teaches - and different points of view on the more controversial parts, this is great. This is from a fairly Reformed, Evangelical standpoint, and comes in the line of Calvin's Institutes, BB Warefield, Louis Berkhof, JI Packer, Lloyd Jones and all the other staunch defenders of the truth!! There is a simpler, shorter, cheaper version of this available by Grudem too if you prefer. If this is too "heavy", try "Know the Truth" by Bruce Milne or any book published by IVP (Inter-Varsity Press)

Systematic Theology
I find this tome useful and very informative on the whole spectrum of Biblical Theology: coming from an Evangelical perspective. However, the text and headings are rather difficult to follow. The glossary at the end of the book, could be more simply laid out, and definitions of Theological Terms, need to be simplified. Overall, value for money and covers a vast area of Theology in one volume.

Concise Theology
There are dozens of books on theology, some so esoteric they are hard to understand. This book gets to the root of the question, in simple Anglo-Saxon, in as concise a manner as appropriate. Grudem, whilst giving his own view, also allows other interpretations. This book is ideal for ordinary Christians, for Theological students, and for Lay Ministers.

An in depth insight into theological subjects
A mighty book covering a multitude of theological topics in depth. He knows his stuff. He is a Calvinist, which he doesn't hide - though he tries to give a balanced view of the subject of God's providence (ie pre determination, free will, only the elect saved etc) he does argue more strongly for the Calvinist view point. It is a contentious subject. So I would say buy the book & concentrate on the other subjects which are very well covered. It is not a book for just light reading.

A couple months ago after reading reviews of different recent systematic theology books, I obtained four copies of Wayne Grudem's "Systematic Theology" for my family and I to read in our daily Bible reading time. (I also obtained a copy of its companion volume, Gregg E. Allison's "Historical Theology," for my own use.) Several years ago we'd read Marion M. Schoolland's "Leading Little Ones to God" and a few years ago we'd read William W. Menzies and Stanley M. Horton's "Bible Doctrines." "Systematic Theology" was intended to provide us with a foundation for making a more advanced study of Biblical doctrine. So far I'm really please with my choice of "Systematic Theology" to provide that foundation. It is Biblically based, explains doctrines fully but clearly, and applies theology to life. As well, its being written from Reformed and charismatic perspectives, "Systematic Theology" is requiring me to reflect carefully on my Pentecostal and open theistic views in order to be able to justify them to the rest of my family in light of Grudem's convincing explanations of his positions.

I cannot say enough great things about this book! A few weeks ago I got into one of the conversation with a friend regarding the concept of “once saved always saved” vs ability to lose salvation. Growing up in a conservative church we were always under the belief of the latter. I asked a friend at work about his thoughts on it because I was looking for more scriptural back up one way or another rather than just “I believe, or I think”. He brought me this book having marked the chapter that discusses this topic. I was amazed at the information I found. I feel like the writer does a really good job of showing various sides of every topic and backing each up with lots of scripture. I find myself constantly looking up the various versus referenced as I read. Sometimes I agree they defend his points, sometimes I may not necessarily be completely in agreement, but appreciate the opportunity to study why his points were made. Shortly after I had attended a new church that was in the process of electing new elders. There were many things that occured that didn't jive with the beliefs I was raised with. Although I knew the verses that backed up what my beliefs were on it, this book provided a wealth of additional information from years of study on this topic. So far I haven't been able to come up with much of any topics that I typically have interesting discussions with friends on that are not covered with plenty of detail in this book! I glanced thru a bit more of the book (it’s a doozy!) an decided this was something worth an investment to have around. I bought my own copy three days later and have been reading thru it every day now! As someone who has spent quite a bit of time reading thru the scripture, it’s amazing how much I wasn’t taking out of it. This writer has done so much research (and references other’s more in depth research as well!) that I am beginning to read an learn things in a whole new way. Pros: - appears to be very unbiased, covering multiple religions views and justifications on topics - most points are backed up by scriptural references and footnotes as to where to find enough more in depth research on various topics - covers a very wide range of topics that should satisfy a lot of peoples learning needs - Though it is a very large book and full of tons of information, it is written in such a way that you do not need to have a theology degree to follow. Cons: - None so far! This covers so many topics that you have to see the table of contents to appreciate it. After I approached the couple topics I was currently discussing with friends I decided to start at the beginning and work my way thru. Even learning about how the books of the Bible came together, the history behind them being considered the true word of God, etc.. it’s just captivating how much more I am learning! I know I am raving a lot about this book, but it has been so exciting and re-energizing to find something like this to not only build on the knowledge i have, but to make me crave learning so much more! I'm sure it will take me a lot less time than expected to get thru this book. The second time around I will look forward to trying to study it with others and look up even more of the references.

I appreciate the book is written for lay people. It makes it very readable and understandable. I value the personal application questions at the end of each chapter, which drives each chapter deeper into our understanding as we apply the truths. Adding a song or hymn makes each chapter a unit unto itself. I am reading each section as a book. It makes it less daunting to get through. Each section then has anywhere from 5-15 chapters in it. I know you can read any chapter throughout the book on its own, but There is value in reading the book through. In an age when doctrine is very wish washy and sometimes almost non existent it is necessary for believers to know and understand biblical truth! This book will help to firm up, clarify and settle what the Bible says on many many topics.

A wonderful book to have for a biblical insight on various aspects of our Christian belief. Sound doctrine that doesn’t compromise on anything.
