Pipers at the Gates of Dawn: A Triptych (Hardscrabble Books)

Ok, So I LOVED "Because a Fire was Burning in my Head", and I bought this book thinking I would find great writing and a compelling story. I bailed on this about 2/3 of the way through. Could not connect to the characters at all, it is a lifeless book.

I read Lynn's forward to Wallace Stegner's "Collected Stories" and wanted more of her. This the best of her limited published works. She must have been a marvelous teacher prior to her retirement!!The three novella are linked by the "hired man" who is a very aloof womanizer. Each is a story of different stations in life. Complex and surprising!Gritty.

The book I purchased was as near to new as I could detect and it arrived comparatively quickly, . Of course, at a fraction of the cost of a new book.
