Most any good magnet will work. Amazon sells many.

Will this item count automobile traffic?

It can as long as the small magnet passes close to the sensor. Within 1/2 an inch and each car will need a magnet with the proper magnetic pole facing the small sensor,

Can i use this a door/ people traffic counter?

The counter will count each time the sensor sees the magnet. So lets say the door is closed and the magnet is on the door with the sensor near it. The sensor will count as soon as the door closes, so to start the cycle, with the door closed reset the counter to 0. When the door opens and then closes it will count.

what is the diameter and thickness of the magnet?

I am not sure, but you can use any magnet size of your own. There is nothing special about the magnet that comes with it. The magnet I use on most any magnetic switch is a stronger magnet like a small neo.
