What are the batteries for?

Is the front wheel rubber?

It is a hardened rubber. Gives good traction but doesn't need to be inflated. Much more durable than the plastic wheels on a regular big wheel.

What is the difference between the caster trike and the drifting trike

The caster trike and the drifting trike are the same. The wheels are not locked in place like a big wheel so you can go straight or drift. The difference between the red and blue models is that the red one has a sparker. It helps a tiny bit with braking but my kids love to make sparks as the ride.
