I have never had a tape dispenser's serrated edge go dull.

not exactly sure what you are asking. are you asking if this dispenser will hold a roll of tape that is 3" in diameter? most rolls are app. 2" in diameter but you must be asking about an industrial size roll. i tried to measure the well where the roll goes and it falls short of 1 1/2 inch so i don't think it will hold a roll 3" in diameter and work very well.
