Swallow Nest Box with Special Entrance Deters House Sparrows

Arrived quickly and looks good! Tree swallows nested there last year, but that box was falling apart. I hope they like this one. 👍

After ordering this swallow house, I realized I hadn’t checked on the dimensions of the entry opening, and contacted the seller directly. Tom was extremely patient with me and answered all of my questions. In the end, I decided to exchange the swallow house for a chickadee house— which he also made— with a 1/8” entry opening. The birdhouse arrived yesterday and I couldn’t be happier with it. It is obvious that a lot of care, research, and work went into its build and design. It has been sanded so smoothly that I can’t stop running my hands over it. It is a work of art.

Since I have hung this, not one bird has even taken an interest in it.

We have been putting up lots of houses around our property only to have the massive sparrow population overtake them. This is the first house we put up that has kept them at bay. We only hung it yesterday and have already had a few tree swallows investigate it and hopefully take up residence soon. Great craftsmanship and enough floor space for the fledglings to spread out as warmer months approach. Not going back to circular openings anytime soon, great product, couldn’t recommend it more!

This birdhouse is well made, I like the hole facing sideways to fit swallows, bluebirds and fly catchers. I lost a swallows nest last year because of high wind. This house is heavy enough that I shouldn’t have this issue!
