How potent are the herbs are when not being preserved in alcohol. If you can explain your process that would be great!

Using vegetable glycerin can last up to 2 years if stored in a cool dark place. Alcohol is a better solvent than vegetable glycerin, meaning it will extract more of the benefits of the plant, and it has the longest shelf life if stored in the same way (pretty much indefinitely). So, you'll have to take more of the tincture for vegetable glycerin-based tinctures for the same amount in alcohol-based tinctures. There's plenty of how-to's out there, but I typically use Everclear vodka (190 proof) for plants that have moisture and haven't been dried. For plants that have been dried, I use Reyka or Tito's vodka (80 proof). However, using them as straight-up tinctures applied to under your tongue isn't very fun, so it's best to apply them to drinks or something else.
