Yes, you can use it with a surge protector. Whether you want to depends on what protection you want; this will cut the power if, say, a person touches the live line, but doesn't protect against surges. To protect vulnerable equipment, you'll want both.

Easy to use. Great RCD

This is a pass-through RCD, so you plug it into the wall socket and then plug whatever you want to protect into the RCD. No wiring required. The nice thing, which I bought it for, is that a power interruption won't "trip" the device: power comes back then your fridge, etc. gets power back. (Technically this is a passive, or latching, RCD.) It will trip and cut power only if there's a fault causing a current where there shouldn't be, which is exactly what you want, usually. Lovely light, well made device.

Unsatisfactory Instructions

This item came with a scrunched up small piece of paper with the instructions written thereon in tiny print. The wording is written in the Chinese idea of the English language and it is hard to get to grips with it. With regard to the actual device, it is hard to see if the red light is off or on - miniscule and not all that bright. Also had some trouble getting the lawn mower plug inserted into the adaptor.
