They can get a small bit stiff in the cold under about 40F in the wind. Not a problem, they also function to block 100% of the wind. I'm getting a second pair for my other pair of pants.The Carhart double front 12oz pants do work well as winter riding pants. The loose fit will certainly fit a baselayer and long johns and these knee inserts.

I found out about these through the review on the Canyon Chasers website as way to make Carhartts more protective for motorcycling. So I ordered up a set to give them a try. Just like the site explains, you have to roll them up tightly, but they go right in, and once in they mostly dissppear and have minimal impact on how the Carhartts fit otherwise. D3O armor is well known in the rest of the motorcycle community, including in MotoGP for its ability to protect from impacts, so while I've not crash tested the effectiveness of these (and hope I never do), I'm thrilled that for such a reasonable price point I can have some very effective and safe motorcycle riding pants.

Fit for pupose and extremely durable

It stated that these knee pads will fit into Wrangler pants, but the knee pads were too thick to fold into the slit in the pants made for the knee pads. I had to rip out some stitching to make the slit bigger and had to hand sew reinforcing stitches at the end because there are so many layers of fabric that it wouldn’t go through my sewing machine. Once they were in, though, they worked just fine.

I’ve been a professional firefighter since 2006. In that time, I’ve tried all kinds of knee pads, but these are far and away the best I’ve ever used. Soft enough to be comfortable, thick enough to actually eliminate any feeling of debris poking into your knee, and since they’re inserts, no straps chafing or heating up the back of your knees. I love these so much, I stocked up on extra just in case these ever go out of production. Though I don’t know if I’ll ever need them. I purchased these for the first time over a year ago and am still using those with no visible or tangible wear and tear.

...I recently sewed knee pockets into a pair of jeans I wear when motorcycling through the BlueRidge mountains...the pads conform nicely and feel great, no sweat pockets...I also stick them into the kneepocs on a couple pair of BDU's I work in and have recommended them to a couple of military buds...happy knees...yea, I'd give them 2 solid thumbs up!

I bought these as inserts for carhartt double front pants, to use as my motorcycling pants. So far so good. Haven’t crashed yet, but when I work on my bike (and happen to be on my knees) they provide plenty of support. If you’re looking for a pair of knee supports for your DIY moto pants, be sure to get these!
