Nikon 1 NIKKOR VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 Lens (Black)

If your looking for a super telephoto lens for your Nikon Series 1 camera - this should suit your needs very nicely. I have owned my Nikon 1 V3 now for a year and have the wide to medium lens; I was looking for a longer reach lens and finally decided to go for it. As you know the CX sensors on the Nikon 1 cameras produce a 2.7 crop factor making this lens have a field of view similar to that of a 189mm - 810mm lens; which translate to a long to super telephoto lens. Pros: It is a solid mostly metal lens, Has very good optical performance, speed of focus is quick, light for what you get (1.2 lbs) Cons: Extends and retracts during zoom function, inner barrel is plastic, no weather sealing, price, If you are looking to see "real" photos taken with this 70-300 using a Nikon 1 V3 visit: http://www.truetoad.com/Reviews I can recommend this lens to the die hard Nikon 1 users but the price is a bit much.

Small, perfect sharpness, depth of field that no other lens can provide. You just need enough light when use with Nikkon 1 J5 to show its power.

I've always wanted a lens that could take a top quality closeup of a feeding hummingbird from 20 feet away, and this is that lens. Yes, it cost a lot more than the Nikon 1 J4 body with which I use it, but is still a bargain compared to any lens able to do the same on a full-frame camera. Plus, and this is important to me, I can carry ALL of my daily use lenses in a very small and light camera bag. Even at full extension (300mm), this lens is much smaller and lighter than the 300mm full-frame lens I recently noticed being used by another photographer, and also opens wider for use away from full daylight. I recently considered getting a new fixed lens camera with over twice the resolution of my J4, but decided instead to make up the quality difference with great lenses, and ended up with a camera that is even more pocket-able, yet far more flexible when very wide angle or very long telephoto shots are needed, for less money overall. Another surprising factor is that my shots in JPEG format are already usually above 8MB in size, which already limits me to sending one photo per email to some of my friends. I hope the Nikon 1 series continues and keeps improving. If it does, Nikon can be sure I'll keep buying. One other suggestion: if you buy this lens ever expecting to use it on a tripod, also get a NIKON TR-N100 TRIPOD MOUNT VR 70-300 . Together they balance perfectly on my tripod's Manfrotto 128LP Micro Fluid Head , even allowing me to swap batteries as needed (important, given how quickly my J4 chews through them.)

Don't get me wrong: this lens is AMAZING and I simply LOVE it. I also think that Nikon 1 concept is great: quality light weight, small, fast and quite camera with interchangeable lens. Being able to easily hold in one hand more than 800mm is not trivial at all. This lens, for its size, has great: build, optics and speed. Unfortunately it has just one BIG problem: durability. Despite its good and solid construction, I believe that this lens has some inherent problem causing it to stop functioning properly after about 6 to 12 months of use. I purchased my lens at November 2014. After a little more than 6 months the lens started making some strange noises mainly at 200mm to 300mm. It sounds like something is slipping inside the mechanism of the lens. In some of the times I got an error on the screen saying: "Lens error. Contact a Nikon-authorized service center." (image attached). Of course the lens was kept properly and never fell. As time passed (few months) the problem became worse and I started getting this error all the time along with the same strange noises. Luckily, the lens was under warranty and after contacting Nikon I decided to send it for inspection. Nikon told me the lens could not be repaired and that they will send me a new piece. When the new lens arrived it was easy to tell that it is not brand new. There were some marks on the tripod mount hinting that this lens was probably used for some testing. I didn't mind about it so much, since I mainly cared that the lens will work properly. I tested the lens and it was working pretty well. It seemed like this piece was having some small backfocus issues, but it was not a big deal, so instead of waiting a long time for a replacement I decided to stick with this one. After about 6 months of using the new lens, I started having the EXACT same problems again. Unfortunately this time I had no warranty because the old lens was replaced. Since the EXACT same problem happened to the lens twice I can only assume that there is some inherent problem with the design or construction of the lens.

Pros. -Well built and solid feeling. -Constructed of metal. -Light for its construction and zoom rang. -Sharp throughout entire zoom rang. -No need to step down to obtain sharpness. -Contrast and colors rival $5k + lenses. - Bokeh is Amazing soft and dreamy at 300mm. -Auto Focus is fast and accurate. (V3 used to test) - Focus limiter switch. -Zoom and Focus ring are smooth and responsive. Cons -Tri-pod foot not included. -Foot collar none existent. (Foot can not be rotated) -No Auto Focus recall/memory button.

Just received this zoom this week. I have not had time to really put it through its paces yet. But here are my first impressions: - Feels well built. Nice solid feeling lens. Feels good attached to my Nikon 1 V3 - Zoom ring feels similar in texture to the 10-100 zoom - weight - not too heavy. About the weight of my 18-200 zoom that I had for my Nikon D300 - It's incredible that I now have the equivalent of a 810mm focal length in my bag in such a small package - Initial photos seem sharp and clear - but i have not taken a ton of photos yet, as I am waiting for my UV filter before i really use this lens. Nothing much to not like about this lens. Overall - I am very happy and can't wait to take this lens on my next vacation and photo field trip.

It is an exception lens. The image quality and dampening of movement at full zoom is surprisingly excellent. It is aggressive though. Slight rotation of the sleeve and the extent of the zoom is sharp and sudden. For quick action shots I suspect it woudl work well as long at the camera focus can keep up with the image and the lens. For other uses its practicality may be limited. Time will tell.

Best Camera ever. I bought a new camera recently and it doesn’t come close to the pictures I’ve taken with my Nikon J5 and the 70-300 lens. I’ve had it for a couple years. The lens was very pricey but it’s paid for itself over and over.

A quality piece of glass that is well made, small, and feels quality. The pictures are tack sharp right through the range. It isn't cheap but quality seldom is. It is a must have on the Nikon 1 system and I've had some super images. Focus can be a little slow at times but it gets there. I find I need to take my quality Hoya uv filter off when shooting into the sun as sometimes it can cause refraction or flare which isn't visible without the protective filter. Expensive lens but well worth it.

Unglaublich scharfes und sehr einfach zu händelndes Supertelezoomobjektiv. Überhaupt kein Vergleich zu einem preisgünstigen Kunststoff AFS 70 - 300 VR weder von der Mechanik und dem verwendeten Material, also Metall plus Made in Japan - ist selten geworden bei Nikon - geschweige denn der Abbildungsleistung. Hatte zuvor auch meine Zweifel, wegen der nicht besonders herausragenden Lichtstärke, aber die Schärfe, Korrektur und Farbgenauigkeit ist verblüffend. Dieses Objektiv ist mit einem Supertele von Nikon vergleichbar! Ich habe ein AF I 400, 2.8 und hatte eine AFS 500, 4.0 II. Beides schwer zu händelnde Objektive, die über den Adapter an die 1er Serie ebenfalls anschließbar sind. Nachteil: Gewicht, Größe, Preis und nur über das zentrale AF Feld steuerbar. Nachteil des hier besprochenen Objektivs: nicht spritzwassergeschützt und nicht komplett abgedichtet, so dass Staubeinschlüsse möglich sind, was optisch keine Rolle spielt, aber trotzdem ärgerlich sein kann. VR funktioniert einwandfrei mit Vorteil des fehlenden Spiegelschlags bei den spiegellosen Kameras. Leichtes Klappergeräusch im nicht angesetzten Zustand, aber an der Kamera nicht mehr hörbar. Fazit: unterschätztes Sahneteil im vernachlässigten 1er Stall. Ist mit dem 32, 1.2 das beste (und leider teuerste) Objektiv, was es in diesem Sektor gibt. Wichtige Ergänzung vom schwierig zu findenden Nikon Archiv: Naheinstellgrenze bei Brennweite 70 mm: 1,0 m; bei Brennweite 150 mm: 1,6 m; bei Brennweite 300 mm: 1,6 m

E' la ciliegina sulla torta del sistema Nikon 1. Copre dal medio tele a quello spinto (189 - 810mm in formato FX). Il barilotto è un misto fra metallo e plastiche di buona qualità. Buona la manovrabilità, all'altezza del marchio. Unico neo è il supporto per treppiede solo a richiesta ed a caro prezzo.

Very good lens for the price. Despite excellent vibration reduction it is often very helpful to use a tripod, if you are looking for extremely sharp results when using it at maximum extension.

Bin begeistert! Das VR 70-300 mm wertet die Nikon 1 nochmal um Klassen auf. Es gelingen ganz leicht tollste Nahaufnahmen und der Zoombereich spricht ja für sich. Und die ganze Kamera passt mit Objektiv nach wie vor in meine kleine, handliche Fototasche... Meine ersten Erfahrungen: - der Autofocus über den gesamten Zoombereich dauert, hilfreich ist hier ein kleiner Schalter, der den Zoombereich limitiert. Damit wird der Autofocus auch richtig schnell - ich wundere mich, dass auch Bilder mit sehr langen Belichtungszeiten (z.B. 1/15) meist scharf bleiben - der Bildstabilisator leistet offensichtlich gute Dienste - genial finde ich den Fokussierring: damit kann man auch ohne Autofocus sehr schnell manuell fokussieren. Beim manuellen Fokussieren mit dem Fokussierring erscheint im Sucher automatisch ein (in der Größe einstellbarer) Bildausschnitt mit dem die Schärfe präzise und einfach ein- oder beim Autofocus nachgestellt werden kann. Bin jedenfalls überzeugt, dass sich spätestens mit dem Objektiv das Mitschleppen einer Vollformat-Kameraausrüstung nicht mehr lohnt...
