Excellent Multi Tool Outstanding price
First off I would like to say the nay sayers are horribly mistaken about this multi-tool. I have own 5 multi-tool/pocket knife combos and I have used many of the competitors products. From 2 Swiss Army knives, a Winchester multi-tool, and a Leatherman multi-tool. The Swiss Army knives are always too compact and never have enough features to be useful (PLUS THEY ARE ALWAYS STIFF and HARD TO OPEN), the Winchester looks nice but weighs over 1.5 lbs! (Plus the materials used are cheap), and the Leatherman was nice but the price high ($65!) and it was always slightly awkward. I purchased this Gerber on a whim looking for a good lightweight multi-function tool, that was easy to carry in my pocket, had a good amount of features, and a good match of qaulity/price. The Gerber suspension butter fly multi-tool (yes a mouth full to say) is a great mixture of all of my wants. Lightweight under 10oz, great styling very sharp to look at, compact, and under $30! This tool honestly sums up all of my wants and needs in a product plus it hits the right price point for me. A solid grand slam in my opinion. Pros: Needle nose pliers (most multi's only have bulking large pliers) Spring loaded jaws for pliers (No more messing around with opening and closing the tool while tightening/loosening things etc) Locking system (great for keeping a fixed blade to cut/use screw driver attatchements) Can opener (that works surprisingly well) Light weight (No more bulky heavy multi's that feel like bricks) Comfortable to hold (some tools never feel right in the hand but this one certainly does) Saws (work well from boxes, to twine, to rope, to lightweight metal cable) Usable phillips/flat head tools (good size for mid to large applications) Cons Size (may be a problem for some with very large hands) Scissors (not very useful as they are tiny) Blades Size (If they were another half inch they would be perfect) Phillips/flat head tools (Do not fit small applications well can bore out the screws)

ONLY buy the original 12-tool Suspension, NOT NXT
The original Gerber suspension I bought at Walmart for $29 and carried for years in the Army was a much more useful tool than all the $100+ Leathermans many of my fellow soldiers carried. Depending on your MOS and unit, “Gerber” or “Leatherman” were often used in place of multitool, just like in parts of Texas if you order a “coke” they interpret that to mean soda in general and respond with “what kind of coke do you want?” Dr. Pepper. In the Army Leathermans are more common so when someone asked to borrow my “Leatherman” I’d hand them my Gerber suspension and they’d fumble with it, confused by the little nubs that make one handed operation a breeze, and then more confused about the locking mechanism, although both seem pretty intuitive to me. I’ve always found this tool to reign supreme since it’s truly easy to operate with one hand, includes a high quality belt case, and has all the necessities. Although a little stiff at first, with some extra lubricant and break-in, opening and closing the knife, saw, and even pliers, were easy with one hand only. Being spring loaded is a seriously important bit too, and after years of use they still work well. Since the same product page has the original suspension and the new Suspension NXT, I do want to mention the NXT is pretty mediocre. You get a couple more tools you don’t need, but completely lose the ability to operate with one hand. Instead of the nice little nubs for your thumb to flick open the outermost tools on the Suspension, the NXT goes back to basics so you need to use your fingernail(s) to pull out any of the tools. The sliders to unlock tools on the NXT are more flush and the springs seem stiffer, aka much harder to use. No case is included, but if you want to actually carry it and are willing to sacrifice a pocket, you can use the attached pocket clip. Hooray. One of the few examples I’ve seen where the new version of a product gets worse in nearly every way.

Good Everyday Multitool, But Could Be Sturdier and More Comfortable
I picked up the Gerber Gear Suspension-NXT EDC Multitool because I wanted a reliable, compact multitool to carry for camping, small repairs, and general everyday use. Overall, I think it’s a good tool for the price, but it does have a couple of drawbacks worth mentioning. Performance: For the most part, all the tools work well. The needle nose pliers have come in handy many times and the wire stripper does a decent job for quick fixes. The knife blade is sharp enough for light cutting tasks and the screwdrivers are fine for small household jobs. Build Quality: While it gets the job done, the multitool feels a bit flimsy compared to some heavier-duty multitools I’ve used in the past. If you’re planning to use it for light-duty tasks or emergencies, it’s fine — but I wouldn’t trust it for very demanding jobs. Ergonomics: One thing that could be improved is the comfort and grip. Some of the edges feel a bit sharp when you’re squeezing the pliers tightly, and overall it could be more ergonomic for extended use. Portability: It’s slim, lightweight, and clips easily onto a pocket or bag, which makes it really convenient to carry. For EDC or as a backup tool, it’s very handy to have around. Overall: If you want an affordable multitool for everyday situations, camping trips, or to keep in a glove box, this is a solid choice. Just keep in mind that it’s best suited for lighter tasks — and a more robust model might be better if you need something heavy-duty and more comfortable to use for longer periods. Pros: ✅ Good selection of tools for daily tasks ✅ Compact and lightweight for easy carrying ✅ Decent performance for light work Cons: ❌ Feels a bit flimsy under heavy use ❌ Could be more ergonomic and comfortable to hold Final Verdict: 4 stars — good value for a casual multitool, but I’d love to see a sturdier build and better comfort in future versions.

Fine tool as expected (does not come with pouch).
This is a superior multitool. I simply expected it to come with a carrying pouch, which it doesn't. I have two now; the first one I received from Amazon was clearly a return (when I paid for a brand new one), so I was going to return it. In the meantime I received a second one (brand new this time), and it also didn't have a carrying pouch. That's when I realized that they don't come with carrying pouches so I decided to just keep both!

outstanding product from gerber update 7/16/14
hello, i have searched high and low for a small, but very sturdy multi tool. going to stores to feel the heft of some products opened my eyes to portability. this gerber product is compact and fits easily in my pocket for quick access when needed. every item in the tool is very well made and functions well. my only comment is that it may be difficult for some people to get all of the tools out, but you can't be in a hurry. i have used it countless times and each time gets better and easier. the best thing is that is folds into a workable size and doesn't take up much space in my pocket. actually, my pocket is a small dedicated lined pocket for tools such as these. gerber makes a zillion multitools, so each tool will have its backers and users. your results may vary. great product from gerber and amazon. update 7/16/14 well, after several years of owning this great tool, it finally fell into the salt water. we washed it with fresh water and left it out in the sun to dry. it did not take very long to dry and that was good. but, there were some signs of rust in the sharp edges and corners. the fold out sections were a little stiff again. fresh water on stainless tools should do the trick, but the salt did a number on the "stainless steel" parts. we used a combination of spotless stainless cleaner and nevr dull cloths. we also used mclube silicone dry lube to keep everything moving well. hopefully, we will not drop it in the saltwater again, but now we know how to bring it back to life...

Love it.
I was worried at first that this wouldn't be very good, considering how cheap it is. My previous multi-tool was a Leatherman Surge, which is about a $100 item. This is easily better, and has caused the old Leatherman to get relegated to the bottom of my toolbox. I've had this for over two years now, taking it everywhere I go (including a field expedition to Central Africa for three months) using it almost every day, only cleaning it every few months and sharpening the blade even less often. It's still as good as it was when I first got it, in every respect – totally unfazed by all the use and abuse. This past Christmas (2013) I bought another one for my sister's boyfriend, and he likes it just as much as I do. The handles are very comfortable (rounded edges, nice curves, and rubber inserts at the bottom) and I like that they are spring-loaded. The pliers and wire cutters definitely get the job done. I really like that the tools are all on the outside of the handles, so that one doesn't have to open the handles to get at them. The scissors (often a weak point on multi-tools) are excellent, if inevitably small. The main knife is solid, holds a decent edge, and sharpens up easily. It always seems to have the tool I need, and while I could do without the saw and the serrated knife (I'd prefer a file instead of a saw, ideally) all the other tools get used regularly so it's not burdened by a bunch of superfluous, rarely-used tools. It's light for a full-sized multi-tool. Also, all of the tools are locking, which I appreciate. I'd say that I will definitely be buying this again, but unless I need another Christmas gift I don't think I'll need to – the one I have seems like it's going to last a very long time.

Great quality and value
The quality of the Gerber is second to none with all stainless steel constructtion, razor sharp knifes and tough Phillips & flat-head screwdrivers. The spring-loaded pliers are a nice-touch, and the bottle opener is a must at the end of a tough day. For such quality you would expect to pay double.

Super pince ! Polyvalente, solide, abordable.
