I read through the book the first time just to evaluate the total message. I was very impressed with Andreas' personal testimony, & his understanding of the body & general health. I was impressed that he gave the WHYs of his views & instructions, as so few do that; & I am a "WHY?" person. I do not agree with everything that Andreas taught; but he had an amazing amount of wisdom & understanding over-all, that I gleaned a great deal from. I do not believe that vegetarianism is the right diet for everyone, or even most; but he did not do well personally on meat or heavy proteins, & I accepted that as his testimony. I personally do well on heavy proteins & some meat, as well as raw or fermented dairy, & eggs. I eat both cooked & raw foods, believing both to have advantages that most healthy people need to stay healthy. I was fascinated by Andreas' approach & information about removing both liverstones & gallstones from the body as a preventative measure. I personally did not know if I could handle drinking Epsom Salts solutions, or the half-cup of olive oil; but I read the book through one more time & took pertinent notes in hopes of preparing my body correctly to undertake this major cleansing program for the next year or so of my life; whatever it took. I have to also say that I am a "Spirit-led" Christian Believer, & I felt the Holy Spirit of my Father God leading me on this adventure. I was overcoming 40 years of mercury amalgam poisoning & my body was still cleansing from all that; 8 years after getting all the amalgam removed from my teeth. I started my liver/gallstone cleansing in March of 2012. I have skipped 2 different months of this cleansing, after performing 11 months of these in a row. I am currently on my 14th liver/gallstone cleansing session right now. I have seen AMAZING results both in what has come out of me, & in my general health improvement. My body first got rid of amazing amounts of liverstone matter. Then after several months of this, it moved to gallstone removal, alternating back & forth between the two of these, until I now have very small amounts of liverstone matter left. I have learned a great amount just following & journaling this procedure through. I could actually write my own book about it by this time :) The Lord has had me make modifications throughout, & I have carried what Andreas taught me to much further levels of cleansing than he challenged us to do. On one particular month's cleanse, I did an oil-grapefruit drink every 12 hours until I had completed several full days of fasting & throwing off liver & gallstones, successively; by completing 15 oil drinks in that round of cleansing. I got good cleansing results following each oil drink. I sometimes look back & "wonder" how I did that :) By this time I am only doing 3 oil drinks every other month for maintenance & deeper cleansing. I was extremely loaded with gallstones, & have still not seen the total end of these yet. Even so, my strength of life & energy level has been greatly improved. I noted that the gallstones are extremely foul-smelling; more-so than the liverstones or liverstone matter. The smells that I have noted coming out of me at times made me wonder how I could have been as healthy as I have been, with all that inside of me. I have also noticed that I rarely ever have any slight underarm body odor any more. I do not need any deoderant. It wasn't that way for many years, as I used to have a strong underarm body odor easily. On a side note, I did make my 6 days of apple juice drinks a lower sugar drink, by combining the main ingredients that Andreas said did a good job of breaking up liverstones. I mixed 5 oz of organic, non-filtered apple juice with one oz of pure unsweetened cranberry juice,& 6 more oz of chamomile tea. This ratio-mix worked great for me & was NOT too sweet for me to consume healthfully. Today, it came to me that I had not taken the time to come back & give my review on this book. I was waiting until I actually walked through the program, before giving my comments. When I read Andreas' list of things that cause liver & gallstones, I had to smile. My conclusion was, "simply being alive in this world" creates liver & gallstones for all of us. Probably, some of us are more inclined to get them than others. I should also say that I have never had ANY liver issues that showed up on any medical test. Neither have I ever had a gallstone attack. My interest in doing this was the fact that I was 62 years old, with plenty of cleansing issues going on, & I like to be proactive & natural as far as my health is concerned. I do hope this review is helpful to many other people who might like to know an effective way to work a great cleansing-healing in their body. (Do take in all the detail that Andreas gives, as some of it is extremely important to your success.) The liver's efficiency greatly affects the health of the entire body. This type of cleansing supercedes any kind of cleansing I have ever done before. It goes much deeper & further than simply cleansing the colon. "Shalom~Shalom", Pam Review: Must-read for anybody interested in optimal health - I stumbled randomly on this book while looking for information on alkaline water - that's how I know I was MEANT to find this. Everything he puts forth really makes sense to me. We don't agree on diet, but that's OK. I know I beat up my liver for the first 25 years of my life. I'm not surprised that nobody has EVER mentioned gallstones in your liver to me before. DUH! At this point, I've done 3 flushes. I saw thousands the first and third time, if you count the little pin-sizes ones. The second time I saw slightly less stones, but still many. On all 3, I saw pretty large stones. Nothing crazy like a golfball, but like a cashew or so, yes. You need to be a certain kind of person to set out on this journey. Andreas clearly states that once you do one or two flushes, you better follow through until you're free of stones. I wanted to see if this was true, so I waited 3 months to do the third one... wow, did I feel the effects. I felt instantly better after my first couple of bowel movements the day after drinking the olive oil/gf juice. So be prepared to go 8-12 flushes deep with this, IF you have a healthy lifestyle, else I hear you will create more stones. The apple juice sucks. It's the worst part of the whole thing. I cut it down to 4 days and saw no difference. I tested for how many days I should do with kinesiology and that has served me because 6 days of apple juice is TOUGH, especially if you're not used to a lot of sugar. According to my testing, I'm about 45% free of stones now, which means about 4 more flushes for me. I'm doing them every 2 months now because every month is just annoying. So by the end of 2013, I'll be free of stones that I created with immunizations, soda, a terrible diet, not enough sleep, and smoking way too much pot. Thankfully, my lifestyle is very healthy now and I'm confident I won't create any more stones and my liver will function @ 100%! Thank you Andreas! Update May 2014: I just finished my 9th flush about a week ago. I saw about 5, maybe 10 stones, and they were VERY small. On my 8th flush I saw maybe 10-20 small stones as well. My 4th flush released the mother load - BIG stones, some with the diameter of a quarter. I have some pretty intense pictures in case anyone doubts me. Since that flush, the amount of stones has steadily decreased to the point where I am pretty much stone-free. Any joker who says this is soap doesn't know what he's talking about and is doing everybody here a disservice. It would be literally impossible for me to see what I did on the first 5 flushes and to watch the amount decline to basically nothing now if it was soap. As for my health... I haven't experienced an acute illness in almost 2 years. My stamina is excellent. Most humans would be envious of my situation, I think. Commit to this protocol for a couple of years and I guarantee, you will feel a sense of relief that your liver is clean. I believe I easily added 20 years to my life doing this flush. And for the record, I use Apple Cider Vinegar instead of Apple Juice now and it's just as effective. My girlfriend just did her first flush using ACV and saw 50-100 stones on her first flush, pretty big ones. JUST DO IT! You will thank yourself when your health rebounds. Update June 2018: I love reading my old reviews and remembering what it was like back in those days. I've done 15 flushes now. I do them 1-2x/year. I've never been COMPLETELY stone-free. Closest I've come is like 10 tiny ones, oh well. I probably still make stones even though my lifestyle is very healthy, it's not perfect (whose is?). Regardless, I'm so healthy these past years. My digestion/elimination is night and day from what it was back before I started this. Another thing I've noticed is how easy it is to keep a stable, healthy weight. The benefits are numerous but you can't expect this to be a panacea. One thing I don't like about the book is how Andreas says this is the reason for almost all illness and it will cure almost anything. My wife and I laugh about it because if the furniture is crooked we'll say, "That's a sign of gallstones in the liver and gallbladder!" It's just overboard. But the flush is real and it helps a whole lot. This whole soap argument from some of these people is just plain illogical. My first flush was nauseating and painful to my sphincter because of all the toxicity. Now it's a breeze. I still don't like doing it but it's not a challenge like it used to be. The healthier you are, the easier it will be. Truth is, I wish it solved every single health problem... but it hasn't. I still have 2 small ones left (grogginess upon waking, and some dry skin). Oh well. When I read the litany of health issues some of the people list in these reviews, I consider myself in the top 1%. Maybe if I do them back to back to back months until all the stones are gone my dry skin will magically become supple?? I don't know. But I'm happy with the results for now and still think it's life-changing for most people. I read through all the negative reviews and only one person had emergency complications. Made me wonder if they did it right (which they said they did). Look, no one thing works for every person. Even 2% of people have complications from gallbladder surgery (is it really that low?). But the medical establishment doesn't throw out the whole procedure just because some people die from it. We have to be reasonable - there are no panaceas. Some people will never get better, and some will just transition, and that is just life. I still suggest the flush to my clients. Just follow it to the T and go all the way else you're not really doing it.

3 liver cleanses: lowered cholesterol, liver spot gone, and better health
October 2020: I’m writing this review because so many reviews discuss before and afters (health) but like everyone who wants to do this... we all have no idea what is normal to experience during the liver flush. Why I wrote this: I have had a crappy digestion since teen years when my periods began, my periods were the worst ever, and I had to work really hard to feel okay to do anything. I eventually stopped consuming all allergens and most protein and fats. This helped me keep my health somewhat balanced, but truth be told I was still very stressed over food. After pregnancy I started having the worst health ever... I went to the hospital several times. They never could find anything wrong despite high fevers indicative of infection, and other problems. I only recently discovered my family has a problem being able to break down cholesterol. After persistence, I found a doctor who would investigate. I was then told I had bile reflux that was causing problems through a hernia. My Bravo PH test came back clean, and I had no acid reflux, just bile. I was 107 lbs, size 0 and eat super healthy, like no allergens and no dairy with all my diet consisting of fresh food and small amounts of animal protein. I have been eating this way for ten years. I was stumped. How could I be sick? Well, I tried everything that modern medicine provides. I even got my gall bladder tested and it came out clear of any problems in both the sonogram and nuclear test to determine functioning. I then had hiatal hernia surgery as I had been told my hiatal hernia was causing the bile reflux. I still was getting sick after my surgery. So, after reaching the end of my rope with modern medicine, I decided that despite what the doctors told me I would try cleaning out my gall bladder. I had previously read this book and was truthfully very afraid of the cleanse. I didn’t want to drink E salt or anything that would make me nauseated. But I had been nauseated my whole life... I finally felt ready. The Cleanse Oct. 24, 2020: Two days ago, after days of drinking apple juice and some nights of taking Chanca Piedra I did the cleanse. I followed the program perfectly with the exception of waking up at 8 am the next day and drinking the remaining mixtures at 8 am and 10 am. My experience with the drinks: the first solution of E salt and water wasn’t too bad... but it got worse with every serving. By my fourth I was dreading drinking it. I was lucky that I had never had it previously because I was more open to trying it out. The olive oil I used was one of my favorites that I can drink like water... if you select a good tasting olive oil it will help. Drinking the mixture with lemon felt like drinking a salad dressing, I loved it! But if I had to do it with a different olive oil I would have hated it. I felt like the E salt mixture really dried me out. How my body reacted: Everyone is different, so my experience is not necessarily what you will experience, but it is definitely within the spectrum. Okay, so after every E. Salt solution I drank, I felt a little queasy. It was definitely a weird sensation. Like I didn’t feel well enough to move around, but was agitated and a bit energetic laying down. I used the bathroom about three times between 6-9:30 pm. At 10 pm I drank the oil and lemon mixture layed down immediately after and gosh, my stomach was making noise! Like so much noise that my husband who hardly notices anything was looking over at me concerned. I wasn’t in pain nor sick. However, around 11:30 pm I started feeling very sick. I tossed and turned in a queasy state until 3 am when I forced myself to try and use the bathroom. I successfully relieved myself, but no gallstones! My bum did burn a lot. During this entire time my body temperature skyrocketed and I felt very dizzy like I was going to faint. I peeled off my clothes and layed on my bathroom floor waiting for my body temperature to go down and my nausea to stop. I was regretting this cleanse at that time, upset that I had done it... I was miserable! Then I showered and crawled back into bed with the same problems of nausea and heat. I went to the guest bed in the house so I could suffer with more space. I had a terrible head ache, felt awful all over. Then finally fell back to sleep and woke up at 8 am unwillingly but with the objective of drinking my 3rd solution of E salt. I suffered a bit more of a splitting headache and nausea. Drank my last dose at 10 am. Up to this point not a single gallstone came out. I felt miserable, and even more miserable because I had no results to show for it. So, I went to the kitchen and had some juice. I had some water throughout the night, but felt dry and I was starving. I even ate eggs. After drinking some more, around 11:45 am, I urgently ran to the bathroom and began expelling stones, bright green and brown. They were mostly pretty small, no bigger than a dime. The more I drank, the more I expelled. Insane. I still was exhausted and fatigued. I spent most of the day in bed with a heating pad. This was yesterday. I am still expelling stones today. It’s hard to determine how many stones I have expelled, they are so small. I know it’s in the range of a couple to few hundred. I need to do a water enema today. My results: No more bile reflux. I am eating fried food and butter. It’s amazing. I love it. I know this is only a brief moment of relief and I’ll have to do this again in a couple of weeks, but wow. My energy level is high and my mood is ridiculously happy. I feel invigorated and excited for what the day brings. I laugh because even though I was suffering for about 24 hours during the process, I feel amazing. My husband is so impressed with my improvement he is also going to do this! I know this was my first go, so I will update with more results in the future. November 2020 Update: I was feeling euphoric and was literally able to eat anything I wanted the last two weeks. I have been taking Colosan at night since my first cleanse to make sure my body was clean. I decided to do my second liver cleanse two weeks after my last. I know the book says to wait, but I knew that I needed it. So, this weekend I did it. Yikes, it was not as bad as last time but I definitely had pretty bad nausea and dry heaving throughout. I think I get this sick because my body is full of gallstones. Either way, this cleanse produced many larger gallstones than last time. I also started eliminating gallstones sooner than last time (at 2 am instead of the next day). The gallstones I first eliminated where mostly green, but after the first few trips I started seeing darker stones. Towards the last trips the next day, my stones were black and sinking to the bottom of the toilet. I had a terrible headache and body aches while I was releasing stones. I believe it must have been all the toxic material coming out. I could feel gravel come out and saw it at the bottom of the toilet. It was disgusting. I have done a water enema to try and clean out my system so I don’t reabsorb waste. I felt much better after the enema. Though I do not think I got out as many stones as last time, the stones this time were larger and more diverse in color. I think I definitely will wait three weeks for my next liver cleanse because it really is overwhelming on the body. I cannot say I feel much better right now, but I think I am still healing from the cleanse. Nonetheless, I know I got a lot out of my system and know this cleanse works. I have faith that with more liver cleanses my health will continue to improve. December Update (3rd liver flush) I decided to do my third liver flush right after Thanksgiving. I ate a lot of gravy and two entire pecan pies that I do not regret, but my body was punishing me for.... What to say that hasn’t been said before? My second flush required lots of detoxing. I had metal and black sand come out of me. I was suffering for a week and was doing enemas daily. Ultimately, the 2nd cleanse was so intense I made myself wait three weeks before this one, my third one. This past weekend during a full moon, I did the cleanse. Results were a tad larger and paler stones, but fewer. I did eat meat the day of, and I hardly prepped for the cleanse, which makes me think is the reason I had not so much success. However, unlike the first two cleanses, I slept throughout the night without as much nausea or detox symptoms! The day of, I released at most 100-200 gallstones. Like I said, they were a tad bigger, but I wasn’t feeling as euphoric as the first time. Since my second cleanse I have been feeling slight pressure and pain from my pancreas which makes me think something may have gotten stuck there during the second cleanse. During my next cleanse, I’m going to actually prep and follow the instructions to a “t” like the first two times and I’ll report back if more successful. Results so far: I have wonderful results that show my cholesterol after two cleanses went into normal ranges! My hair is getting fuller, color is restored, my eyes are clearer and to be honest, I do have a lot more energy. A liver spot I couldn’t get rid of that happened when I was pregnant 3 yrs ago or so- finally faded! However, the enemas or colon cleanses really help me a lot to get rid of those toxins that are expelled by my liver and gallbladder.

I bought the Kindle edition of this book a couple years ago and have completed six or seven cleanses so far. I have followed the instructions for the cleanse precisely, with a few exceptions: I have continued to eat fish and chicken during the first five days of the cleanse; I used Fleet enemas before and after the cleanses instead of colonic irrigation (due to the not being able to afford colonics); and after the first cleanse I switched to drinking powdered Malic Acid mixed with water instead of apple juice due to the high amount of sugar in apple juice (although I have been switching to drinking cranberry juice on the fifth and sixth days of the cleanse because it seems something in the juice makes the cleanse more effective than using malic acid powder only). (I ordered the powdered L-Malic Acid from purebulk.com and it was very inexpensive.) In spite of these modifications, the cleanses have all been successful to varying degrees. I have never gotten sick during a cleanse beyond brief mild to moderate nausea, usually in the early morning of the 7th day after drinking the olive oil and grapefruit juice mixture. I've noticed when I prop my head up with a thick pillow while in bed it helps reduce the nausea. I have also done two kidney cleanses with the kidney tea herb mix, which I ordered from the author's website, Present Moment Herbs, following the method outlined in the book. I seemed to have good results from these cleanses, although the effects have been more subtle than the liver cleanses. I also tried an intestinal cleanse suggested in the book: I drank a teaspoon of epsom salt mixed in warm water every morning for about three weeks. Again, I seemed to benefit, but the results were pretty subtle. Before I did my first cleanse, I had been experiencing regular sensations of tightness and occasional pain in the area of my liver and gallbladder for 6 - 12 months. After the first cleanse, which I believe produced around 100 stones, my liver felt much less constricted for a short time, probably about a day, and then I began to experience tightness again. I was somewhat amazed to find that my experience of the cleanse followed almost exactly what the author said would happen in the book. As I did more cleanses, the period of time without experiencing tightness in the liver area increased, until it extended to many months following the last couple cleanses. In my most productive cleanse (I think it was my fourth) I passed probably around 500 stones of many different sizes, up to the size of a large marble. My last cleanse produced probably only a few dozen small stones, presumably because my liver is getting close to being stone free. However, I plan to continue to do cleanses every six months or so to help support my liver in an ongoing way and because, frankly, I've come to enjoy the ritual of the cleanse. It's a wonderful way to slow down and take a mini-retreat. Based on my experience, the idea that these green stones are somehow soapstones created as a result of drinking the oil olive and grapefruit juice makes little sense to me. I have felt the stones and they are solid like putty and don't simply disintegrate when squeezed. I also have heard many people say they have passed them before drinking the olive oil concoction, yet another reason the soapstone hypothesis doesn't make sense to me. I feel I've benefitted greatly from doing these liver cleanses. However, a few words of caution. It seems true based on my experience that once you start the liver cleanse process, you need to do regular cleanses (at least one every three months or so) until you are stone free, or close to it, or else your symptoms can actually get worse than before you started the cleanses. It's a fairly big commitment in terms of time and energy, although very reasonable for the results in my opinion (at least the ones I've experienced). I've also found that some of the cleanses have brought up a lot of challenging emotions for me. This is probably not the case for everyone, or maybe even most people, but it has been for me. So, just something to keep in mind regarding the timing of cleanses. It may not be the best idea to do a cleanse the weekend before a big presentation at work, say, or some other task or event that is going to require a lot of emotional and physical energy, or when you are experiencing a lot of emotional stress. Having said that, I've tended to feel pretty much back to normal physically a day or two after doing the end of most the cleanses. The instructions in this book on how to do the liver cleanse and the other kinds of cleanses are very clear and easy to follow. The reason I didn't give the book five stars is that I found all the information on the symptoms associated with liver congestion and the benefits of cleansing to be excessive in length and hard to take seriously based on the extraordinary nature of the claims and the total lack of supporting evidence provided in the text (at least in the Kindle edition). The thing that convinced me to try the cleanses were the personal success stories (presented in the book and via the reviews here) from many people who had done them over time, including the author. I'm very grateful my network chiropractor, Brian Duby, recommended this book and the liver cleansing method it presents, and I'm also very grateful to the author for offering a clear outline of how to do the cleanses and what to expect. I believe these cleanses have significantly enhanced my health and will continue to into the future. Update, May 2016: My last cleanse, which I believe was my eighth, produced no stones, although I still felt better and lighter afterwards. I then finally decided to try a colonic, as Mortiz is adamant that there really is no substitute for them for cleansing the colon. I found a great practitioner who uses a gravity-centered method (Chakra 17 West in Portland) and have done two now, and they have made a huge difference. My energy level improved noticeably after the first, and both times I released a hell of a lot of stuck material (VERY different than the results from water enemas). If I had to do it again, I think I would have gone ahead and invested in some colonics earlier in the process, in spite of the costs. But, better late than never!

Just do it!
First, I read the book. It is loaded with researched and invaluable information, never mind the short chapter on the liver cleanse. It is illuminating to say the least and will help you to put aside your fears and doubts. I read every review online, over 300. There were a small handful of detractors most of whom hadn't done the actual cleanse. Then I went to Andreas website and read that. Just looking into his healthy, glowing eyes, smooth skin and dreamy face is enough to convince one that this man is extremely healthy for his age ( and taken ) I was now ready to proceed with the cleanse. I have a multitude of symptoms from chronic fatigue to fibromyalgia, psoriasis, poor digestion, overactive bladder, failing eyesight, dry skin hair and nails etc... I worried about having pain, being alone, getting sick from the olive oil and grapefruit juice and other possible side effects but soldiered on regardless. The prep was a breeze, only having to give up animal products which I eat sparingly anyway and having to drink apple juice. I also have candida so I opted for the malic acid from a winery ( resources at the back of the book ) It came promptly. The day of the flush, I had a smoothie in the am and steamed beet greens with quinoa ( I don't eat rice ) Fasting until bedtime is easy with the unexpected benefit of being filled up by the olive oil and grapefruit juice. I personally liked the way it tasted! The epsom salts is not delicious but at only 6 oz per serving, it is very do able. Going to bed by 10 pm was the hardest part for me but I managed to fall asleep and if I was a good sleeper, would have no doubt slept through the night. I had no discomfort at all. I must admit to feeling quite toxic by morning and didn't want to drink any more epsom salts but it was a small price to pay for my enthusiasm of feeling better! I really thought it wasn't going to work and felt increasingly terrible until finally at 9:30 without much warning, I made my first trip to the toilet and much to my surprise and delight there, staring back at me, floating, were many jelly bean size, caper size and sesame seed size emerald green gallstones!!!!!!!! I was fascinated and thrilled! This happened 13 more times over the course of the day ending around 8pm. Make sure you have no plans or responsibilities the day after, i cannot stress this enough. and if you think you are done, think again! In the end, I passed about 100 stones, not bad for my first flush and I intend to do as many as necessary to clean my liver. Right after the first elimination, I noticed improved eyesight! I had no expectations at all except that I didn't think it would work much less bring better health on the first try. The following night, I slept through the night with the exception of one trip to the WC, a real miracle for me. I usually rise 3-4 times. I did not have a colonic before the flush but did so 4 days after. Next time, I will definitely do colonics at both ends as I do not want to risk having a congested colon which can trap stones that toxify further and leach into the bloodstream. I would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful book and subsequent experience. I will update my review each time I do a flush. I found that very helpful while reading the reviews.

The most important thing you can do.
I would like to add this review in the hope it clarifies the flush process for current and future liver flushers. I just completed my 17th liver flush after a year and a half of abdominal pain and a diagnosis of cholestasis and gallstones. I also had a variety of secondary symptoms, including brain fog, worsening vision, skin problems, and so forth. At this point my symptoms are greatly improved, although I still have a ways to go to regain my health. Andreas Moritz’ book is an excellent resource. The liver/gallbladder flush he describes is an updated version of an older procedure that has been around for at least a hundred years, if not longer. Andreas added a preparatory week involving a vegetarian diet and malic acid supplementation. Other than that, the flush is basically the same as the previous version. Andreas also describes the reasons for doing the flush, and how liver/gallbladder congestion creates health problems. Important reading for first time flushers. Things I have learned after 17 flushes: -The flush is absolutely real and it is high time this “soap stone” nonsense be abandoned. I won’t waste time explaining all the reasons why. -The malic acid and vegetarian diet described in Andreas Moritz’s book are unnecessary and prohibitive. Just eat reasonably the week prior and don’t worry about “softening the stones” which isn’t actually a thing. If you are worried about the composition of gallstones, I’d recommend taking TUDCA and/or stone breakers (both can be purchased on Amazon) but these are not necessary. What is necessary is a shift in overall health, including a whole foods diet, which should optimally include grass-fed organic protein, eggs, and sustainable seafood. Keep in mind that the gallbladder literally evolved to help digest animal foods, and that bile is composed of substances most readily found in meat, seafood, and eggs (taurine, glycine, choline, etc). Do your research. If you want to go vegetarian, be careful to supplement with bile precursors, especially taurine and choline, and eat plenty of plant-based fats to help contract the gallbladder. In saying these things I am not making an ethical statement about diet. I am simply telling you how the body works and what you should focus on if you want your liver and gallbladder to function optimally. -Do follow the basic day-of flushing protocol described in the Moritz book, at least initially. This is identical to the older protocol (see curezone) and good practice for beginners. -Epsom salts produce a strong osmotic removal of the body’s water into the digestive tract, resulting in dehydration and loss of electrolytes. For people who wish to avoid the negative effects of epsom salts, replace them with an equal amount of magnesium citrate (Natural Calm brand is good) taken with a capsule or two of turmeric powder. Like epsom salts, magnesium citrate dilates the biliary system, allowing for the safe passage of gallstones. Turmeric contracts the gallbladder (clinically proven to do so) the same way epsom salts contract the gallbladder. This is a safer method, not to mention far more palatable. -The basic combination of olive oil and citrus juice cannot be improved upon. Increasing the amount of oil to 6 ounces is not harmful, and may help to facilitate the process for certain individuals. Decreasing the amount of oil may result in an unsuccessful flush. -If you have decent motility (you poop easily once a day) enemas and colonics are not necessary. There is an unnecessary amount of fear around gallstones getting stuck in the intestinal tract. If you are worried, a simple water enema will help to clear the colon before and/or after the flush. Otherwise, normal bowel activity will move the stones out within a day or two. Note: do not do a coffee enema before the flush, as this will deplete your bile reserve, possibly ruining the flush. Afterwards is fine. -Expect some flushes to go more smoothly than others. Expect some to fail, even though you followed the instructions. -Although Andreas Moritz suggests maybe 12 flushes to clear the liver and gallbladder of gallstones, the real life experience of the flushing community has been far different. Most people flush between 15 and 30 times before experiencing significant health improvements, and some continue flushing up to 50 times or more, before feeling satisfied that they are “free” of stones. Furthermore, the gallbladder may only begin to expel stones after 15 or more flushes, due to its unique physiology (it’s an inverted sack with muscles that weaken due to cholestasis, and must be exercised to regain its contractility). These gallbladder stones are often harder and tend to be calcified, or in some cases, like white putty or old chewing gum. Their calcium content is what allows them to be seen on X-rays and ultrasounds. Stones from the liver are almost always cholesterol stones, in shades of yellow and green, and are like hardened wax (they cannot be seen using imaging technology). Regardless of the composition, all of these stones must be removed, sometimes requiring years of effort. This is not to dissuade anyone from trying, but please understand this is a long-term but PERMANENT life saving journey. Be prepared to flush the liver/gallbladder at least once a month for 2-3 years. Seasoned flushers may increase the frequency to twice a month, after becoming familiar with the process. -Please disregard anyone who claims the liver flush doesn’t work or is a hoax. This includes such esteemed authors as Anthony William. He’s right about many things, but wrong about the liver flush. If you want to fast track your health, I’d liver flush while following a sensible (not extreme or faddish) whole foods diet. Good luck, and happy flushing! Adendum: The attached photo shows two kinds of gallstones expelled in the same flush. The small green one is made of cholesterol, most common and found in the liver. The other three are compacted material with a consistency of putty, opaque, white, most likely from the gallbladder. Notice that the green stone is smooth and round, while the others are faceted, rough, and furrowed, as if compacted together. I believe we are way beyond any discussion of "soap stones" when we begin to see stones that cannot come from olive oil and citrus juice.

5 star cleanse - simple and easy
5 stars - this cleanse works! Last month I tried a similar cleanse from my doctor and released 15 stones. This month, I used the directions in this book and released over 200 green and white-tan stones, some close to 1" in size. I will keep doing the cleanses monthly until I am stone-free! This cleanse is so simple and easy on the body. The Epsom salt drink tastes horrible, but the taste leaves the mouth after 5-10 minutes. Trust me, you won't be disappointed with this cleanse!

A balanced critique
My intention writing this review is to provide a critical and unbiased view of the cleansing method given in Andreas book. I found the cleanse and bought the book because of the presence of gallstones in my gallbladder and several attacks I suffered due to them. Not wanting to undergo a laparoscopic surgery right away, the flush seemed an interesting alternative worth trying. First of all, it was not developed by him, and he does not claim to have been so. It has a long history as a popular remedy, and it probably originated in the Mediterranean, as an herbal concoction. There are also many other protocols for its administration. You can readily find many on the internet, with arguments pro and con for its usage, but Andreas' version, however, does seem to be one of the better ones. I have followed the procedure to its completion, starting around a week ago. It indeed produced the stones as described, around 130 small ones (1-8 mm) and 8 larger ones (1-2 cm). Two days have passed since the end of the process, and I cannot honestly say that I have experienced any surge of energy, a new feeling of well being, a better disposition or an improved functioning of the digestive system. Since not enough time has elapsed, however, it is soon to say if the gallbladder problems will return or not. Regarding my subjective experience of the procedure, there are some things I would like to mention. Much is written about the nasty taste of the Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) and of the olive oil and lemon juice mix. While their taste is not very agreeable, they are not terrible either. On the other hand, my night after taking the mixture was quite unpleasant. I threw up in the middle of night and could barely sleep. There was an overall feeling of discomfort that persisted for about a day and a half after the end of it. To his credit, Andreas does mention that he spent a miserable night, and that people RARELY throw up and have a general negative experience. I am not sure what he means by rarely, but it seems likely to be more often than it is officially stated. So does it work or not? I cannot say for sure. From the perspective of the symptomatology that plagued me, it is too early to say. So all depends on the stones, and if they are originated from the body or are merely a production from the concoction and the enzymatic process it undergoes in the body. This is the crucial issue to be analyzed. The fact that people improve is not sufficient. I will not go into a deep discussion of the placebo effect, but there is enough literature that shows that its meaning is much deeper than we suppose, something that points to a radical reevaluation of the power of the mind over the biological organism - so this argument should not be dismissed lightly. The nature of the stones is discussed in the book in the FAQ section with very good arguments presented by Andreas. However, there are also some very good points raised by skeptics, and I do not believe that the matter is fully settled - for either side. Critics note that the combination of an oil and an acid is all that's needed for the process of saponification - or generation of soap stones. So the stones expelled by people are not from the liver or from the gallbladder, but merely a product due to the oil and acid mix. Against this view, Andreas points out that many people have had stones expelled BEFORE taking the mix; that many have sent their stones to their laboratory, and it was certified that they had significant concentrations of cholesterol, or bilirubin or other chemical compounds that could not be explained away as soap stones; and that after a number of cleanses, people stop expelling stones, which contradicts the naysayers' hypothesis squarely. If these claims are indeed true, then I cannot see how skeptics could answer that they are only soap stones. However, as all these statements come from personal accounts and not studies - and you don't need a double blind randomized protocol to devise a study, you could have a simple registered case report -, one cannot be sure. Looking for pictures of intrahepatic stones in the internet, mostly from dissected organs, I have noticed that they are not exactly the same as the stones I or others have expelled. They are round and have small blobs around them - something the stones of the cleanse do not have. Skeptics also point out that the stones from the gallbladder and the liver are hard, and not as soft as the stones produced by the cleanse. Andreas would answer that this is due to the malic acid present in the apple juice, taken for six days before starting the cleanse. However, as some people have pointed out, the malic acid does not get in contact with the liver ducts, so there is no way they could have changed because of it. On the other hand, this would be very simple to settle: some people do not take the apple juice before the cleanse; if their stones are soft, that would be major evidence that they are not in fact from the body. One important question that you probably have, if you are considering the cleanse, refers to its safety. The book and most people that support the process say an unabashed yes, that it is painless and not bound to cause major discomfort. Skeptics agree as well on this point (see Quackwatch), mentioning that it couldn't be worse that ingesting a very fatty meal. I concur. It does seem safe, but I would say that it could be very uncomfortable, so this is something you should be warned of. I do have a couple of serious issues with the book, however. First, I cannot prove, but it was pointed out by other reviewers as well, that many, or even most of the reviews of the book are dubious, exaggerating its benefits, not mentioning problems and difficulties found, and not detailing their experience of the process. This is certainly a red flag, and it was a cause of concern for me. I mean, if it is such an amazing procedure, then why post a large number of questionable reviews supporting it? Second, Andreas does seem to believe that almost every disease imaginable is caused by stones in the liver and the gallbladder. They certainly have an important systemic function, but this simplification and overzealous creed that there is one single causal factor explaining illness is found in many questionable writings and charlatans - so in this sense the skeptics are right in pointing this as a problematic point. Third, I understand that he is a "medical intuitive", and while some people may dismiss him outright because of it, I do not. All science is developed INITIALLY through the intuition, so there is nothing wrong with that. HOWEVER, the fact that he presents no data, no numbers, no quantitative analysis at all - is somewhat disconcerting. There are certainly many reasonable and well-meaning people that would be persuaded if some statistics of patients and results were presented, or even if a couple of documents from laboratories validating the biological origin of the stones were shown; I mean, he must have known hundreds if not thousands of people who underwent the process, so how difficult would it have been to present the case in a more quantitative way? He may be an intuitive, but his readers are not necessarily so. Fourth, it is a shame that so little discussion has been conducted between academic scientists and outsiders, like Andreas, on the validity of such a method. It is true that academia is conservative, and many of the medical principles exposed in the book go against the conventional establishment, but how difficult would it be to find a single alternative doctor or scientist willing to do a more thorough study of the stones and the whole methodology presented? It could even be an alternative institution for this manner, such as the IONS - at least it would be a start. Fifth, one does get a feeling in these things that truth is deeply embedded with falsity. When one is separated from the other it is quite easy to form a definitive judgment; it is not so with these matters. There is an overconfidence in the book's tone and in other similar authors that give the smell of quackery - and I cannot blame the skeptics for pressing this point. Academia is indeed closed and conservative, but progress is not attained by snubbing it completely and disregarding scientific protocols altogether. Let's pick a very unconventional scientist that academia loathes - Rupert Sheldrake - and you can see that though a maverick, he does experiments, proceeds carefully, weights contrary arguments, measures his tone - all that is missing from Andreas' methodology and book. So in conclusion, all is not as clean and easy as all these reviewers make it seem. It is not a dangerous process as others write either. But it can be very uncomfortable. And are the stones from the body? I am not sure. Give it a try and decide for yourself.

A full guide book
This is -in my view- a full guide book to the colon, kidney and liver cleanses, but, as there is a new revised edition, I recommend to buy the new edition instead. It is -in my view- the best book of the author.

AMAZING!!!!
Everyone is a skeptic - but I have had amazing results from this process. Over the past year, I have been to the emergency room 4 times with chest pain, heart palpitations, abdominal pain and swelling, and chronic constipation. The doctors were never able to pinpoint what the root cause of my issues might be. I have had a chest x-ray, CT scan, ECG, blood tests, urine tests, etc. and everything always ended up "normal". But my issues persisted. I have been on elimination diets, removing diary, gluten, animal products, etc. etc. Nothing was helping me. Then an ER doctor diagnosed me with GERD and put me on PPI's. The PPI's (acid blockers) did nothing to stop the pain and bloating. Then I went to a GI Specialist and had an endoscopy and was informed that I had moderate gastritis, a hiatal hernia, and a gaping LES. Every step of the way, I have been proactive about making healthy choices and modifying my lifestyle and diet to support healing. But the problems persisted. Finally, the GI Specialist wanted to do an ultrasound on my gallbladder. So, the next step was for me to have an ultra-sound because this doctor told me that gallstones don't always show up on CT scans. While waiting for the gallbladder ultrasound, I stumbled upon this book. I read the reviews and decided that I had absolutely nothing to lose at this point. The pain and pressure was enormous, I was fed up with going to the hospital only to be sent home and told that there was nothing to help me. So now, I have done this liver/gallbladder cleanse several times. Yes, the stones are real. The feeling of relief is unbelievable. It's like letting the air pressure out of a tire. My body is finally healing. I am releasing these stones, getting my energy and vitality back, and committed to doing this cleanse regularly. Read the entire book before you do the cleanse. Follow the instructions. Ignore the naysayers. Your body will thank you, and I am so thankful that I found this book!! *PICS - The green stones are from the first flush, the giant brown stones are from the second flush. I've also had hundreds of tiny yellow stones released from both flushes. More green stones and tiny yellow stones came out on the third and fourth flush. UPDATE: Nov.11/22 I'm still doing the cleanse 6 months later, and YES, it's still working. I also feel AMAZING!!!!!

Very good
I did the experiment and released over 120 stones. I'm feeling better after that, with more energy and better digestion.
