Stopped working after 18 months

I was hoping this Powseed Universal Laptop Charger would be a convenient backup, especially with all the included tips and wide compatibility claims—but unfortunately, it didn’t work with my laptop.I tried several of the included connectors, double-checked the voltage, and still couldn’t get it to charge. The USB port is a nice touch, and the build quality seems decent, but if it doesn’t power the device, it’s not much use.Might work better for other models, but it didn’t work for mine. Disappointed.

I purchased this to power up my 13-inch HP laptop. While it does work, once you attach the proper connector, it will stick out nearly 2 inches from the side of your computer. This design makes it vulnerable to getting bumped and potentially damaging your laptop's power connector. It's a good unit if you plan to use it with stationary objects that won't move or risk hitting something on the sides. However, if you intend to use it with a laptop or anything that requires a flatter connector, I'd recommend finding an alternative power source.

I work on and repair various laptops. If I'm at the repair bench, I typically use my bench power supply set to the expected voltage and current limit with a universal cable and modular tips that fit various laptops. This works great except when I need to work on a laptop away from the power supply, and the original laptop charger may not work or be present. It also doesn't support PD (Power Delivery) over USB-C.So enter this device. Unlike most "dumb" universal laptop chargers that just support DC plugs of various shapes and sizes at a fixed 19.8v or at best a manually adjusted voltage, this device not only has 18 "smart" DC plug tips that contain some kind of ID sense mechanism (likely a resistor of unique value for each tip voltage) to tell it what voltage to supply to that tip, but it also provides a USB-C tip that is PD compliant up to 90W (20V 4.5A).I did some quick tests to get a better idea of how the power supply works. The output of the supply, with no tip attached, has 3 pins: GND, +2.5VDC, and +5VDC. When a particular tip is attached, the correct voltage is negotiated based on the aforementioned sense mechanism. I was a little concerned about how this worked because I wondered if the charger might output max voltage (e.g. 20V) by default that was simply reduced by a resistor in the tip, as there doesn't seem to be enough room in the tip for any kind of regulator or buck circuit. Which would only be "half" smart and not ideal, as the resulting heat dissipation could be significant for a large voltage drop such as with the 12V tips that are included. I was pleasantly surprised to see the charger using safe low voltages for this negotiation, reducing the possibility that harmful voltage could be passed to the target device (virtually all laptop chargers operate between 12VDC-20VDC, the majority at ~19VDC). When I have time I may test each tip and attempt to reverse engineer the sense mechanism just to satisfy my curiosity.Included is a handy sheet with the different tips, their voltage and current specs, and the laptop brands they're typically used for. Also, each tip conveniently has its ID number and voltage molded into it, so you don't have to reference the sheet to see the voltage. HOWEVER I noticed at least one misprint on the sheet. Tip M29 (Samsung) is listed on the sheet as 19.5V, however the tip itself is labeled as 12V, and indeed tested as 12V. I haven't been through all tips yet to verify against the sheet, so I would advise testing each tip before you use it instead of trusting what the sheet says.Overall, I'm quite pleased with this smart universal charger. The sophistication of the design is impressive for the price. It remains to be seen how long it will hold up. If it doesn't last, I'll come back and update this review.
