Big size dinosaur my little one loves it.

A correctly sized Triceratops from Mattel!
Bit pricey at full retail but it's great to finally have a Triceratops in the JP/JW franchise that finally feels the right scale and has better head articulation than the Hammond collection Triceratops (which was also too small). This is another from Mattel that uses recycled material in production, so like the Mosasaurus; its quite a soft plastic and feels hollow and lighter than you would expect for its size.

Cooler Dino mit dem unser Sohn sehr gerne spielt. Gelenke leiern nicht aus und es gibt auch ansonsten nichts daran auszusetzen

My son absolutely loves this dinosaur! He hasn't stopped playing with it since it arrived. It's a great size, very sturdy, and perfect for any kid who is a fan of dinosaurs. This was a huge hit in our house. Highly recommended!

When Mattel took over the Jurassic toy line, fans were excited by the prospect of having humans and dinosaurs in a consistent scale for the first time since the Kenner days of the 90’s. For the most part, they have delivered on that promise. There is one dinosaur, however, which has consistently been severely undersized. Mattel had based the scale of their Triceratops figures off the size of the sick Triceratops in Jurassic Park. They had gorgeous sculpts, and a variety of excellent paint schemes, but one thing remained the same: they were all too small. Now, after five years, Mattel has delivered a properly sized Triceratops, and she was well worth the wait! Not only is she beautiful herself, but she exists to send an important message: take care of this beautiful planet we live on! The figure is made from 60% ISCC certified plastic, while the packaging is made from recycled paperboard. The packaging is also printed using plant based inks, rather than the traditional petroleum based inks. The plastic used is rather hard, but feels very durable. (My inner child would have preferred it to have “real feel” skin, however!) The sculpt of the “Habitat Defender” Triceratops is exquisite! That’s because it’s basically a much larger version of the excellent Hammond Collection Triceratops from last year. As such, the figure features a spectacular level of detail. There are a few small areas where the sculpted details feel a bit less crisp than the smaller version, such as on the horns and beak. However, areas such as the belly actually have some improved scale texturing. Articulations are much less impressive than the sculpt. There are 8 points of articulation in total, which is nearly half of what the Hammond Collection figure has. However, it’s a vast improvement over all of the other small Triceratops figures we’ve seen by Mattel! The figure even has one articulation point that no other Triceratops has had, not even the Hammond version. The “Habitat Defender” can open and close its beak! The head is on a ball joint, and can move freely in all directions. It has a pretty decent range of motion too. All four limbs can move forward and back, but lack the ability to pivot outward. This is my only real gripe with the articulation, because it makes the legs feel particularly stiff. The tail, like the neck, is also on a ball joint. It too can move freely in any direction. There is a small articulation point at the very tip of the tail as well. It only allows for a simple rotation of the tail tip, but can change the curvature of the tail slightly. The coloration on this figure is brilliant. There is actually very little paint used. Most of the colors are accomplished with separately molded plastic. This allows for a much more complex coloration without adding to the budget. While it’s nowhere near as complex as the Hammond Collection figure in the color department, it actually has a couple of improvements over that smaller premium figure. This big girl has colored toenails! While the counter shading on the belly still ends just before the tail, this one actually continues onto the lower jaws, unlike the Hammond Collection version. Another improvement are the painted osteoderms along the back and on the thighs. This is an awesome touch that adds quite a bit to the majesty of this figure! (I do wish the osteoderms on the front legs had been painted as well, and there are a few along the back which are left unpainted also, but that’s just a minor nitpick.) My only major issue has to be the eyes. While the eye placement is fine, the way the eyes are painted just looks too cartoonish. They’re also quite a bit larger than they need to be, but that’s nothing new for Mattel Triceratops figures. Overall, I am extremely impressed by this figure, and cannot recommend her any more highly! I would love to see this “Habitat Defender” title become its own sub line for Jurassic figures. Not only is it better for the environment due to its sustainability practices, but it would allow Mattel to give us more properly sized dinosaurs which have been limited by the current SKU setup. (I’m looking at you, Edmontosaurus!) As for this Triceratops, she is an absolute must own! Do yourself a favor, and buy this one as soon as you can. Everyone needs I big Trike to defend their herd!
