Western Digital makes good stuff. Period. They don't miss. Prices aren't as good as they used to be, but the quality is still there. Buy this.

Great performance and a lot of storage. Not much to say, it's a hard drive, it'll work as expected and perform just as it always does. Put this in for bulk game storage cuz I'm running out, and still don't have any issues.

Got a pair of these as parity disks for an Unraid NAS set up. Yes they are “blue”. Yes they are “desktop”. Yes, they are 5400RPM, but they are also CMR! So far they have been reliable - no errors upon delivery. Chew up relatively less power. Even if they last only half as long as I expect (I have working drives from the early oughts!), the price/value ratio is worth it compared to “NAS”-specific Red/Black drives.

I worked in the tech field in Corporate hardware and network support from 1992 to 2021. Literally dealt with 10's of thousands of hard drives. Western Digital has been the most reliable overall (some models had issues, but overall) for that entire time. I bought four 4TB WD drives, 2 red and 2 blue for offline backup of my personal systems and old business data in fall of 2024. They have been used 8 times for backups, totaling about 1 week of heavy use power on time. 1 of each blue and red have now failed, head click-reset bricked - all four are in different ext housings - so not a bad system/power issue. So 50% fail rate with 1 week of use. The data on them had some Corp business stuff I had to keep for records and cannot be handled by a third party for any reason, so they had to be destroyed and no warranty replacement. Drives were on different orders, so "dropped" in shipping would NOT account for it. Very disappointed WD. Now I cannot trust the other two for anything but Temp non-valuable data so I could warranty them if needed. Will switch to cheapest drives I can get and buy spares to account for fails now. Interestingly, my older WD 2TB and 3TB drives that have years of intermittent heavy use (run hard for 10-20 hours a mouth) are still going strong with no errors as yet. They are 6-10 years old.

Love western digital drives. Has worked great so far, easy installation & fair price for the 4TB storage capacity. Seems to operate quietly and runs as fast as you’d expect it to 👍🏽

Initially for me, this was absolutely the worst customer service experience ever with a defective product! Received WD Blue Hard Drive as new but not functioning. Would not spin up, and not be recognized by two different computers. Contacted Western Digital as requested by Amazon for Warranty Service. Received Mailing Label with Case Number and RMA assigned. Carefully packaged and sent back defective drive to Calexico as addressed on label on February 11. Have chatted and fussed with WD's so-called Customer Support since then, as they show no updated status to this case, although UPS shows delivered to Calexico on February 17. At that time, they show no interest in expediting or at least monitoring the progress of this Case/RMA. However, after waiting nearly two months from submitting the above failed WD Blue Hard Drive to Teleplan Services in Calexico, I was pleasantly and unexpectedly surprised when its 4TB replacement drive appeared on my porch. I have installed it into the intended PC, tested it by copying files continually until it is full, and it has continued to be working fine these past two weeks. My advice to Customer Support, I would have been more patient with this process had I been told upfront that it may take up to two months to receive a replacement drive. But for now all is well, and the RMA can be considered Closed and Complete.

Works great, it's very quiet, high speed, great shipping. I got it for ~$140 before the AI inflation. Still at $210 it's still a great buy and great value for money. I put it in a external sata reader on USB 3.0 (works on most devices) and i get 200-250 MB/s on writes with 4096 bytes block size. I got one from a local retailer and it was "crying" then I plugged it in, this one is ok for now.

Good drive for backing up files.

This is my first 3.5' HDD in a very long time. Amazon dropped it off on the porch, was worried about how they handled it (did they toss the box onto the ground perhaps?). I was kind of against buying a drive online over going to a brick and mortar store because of the fear of it getting banged (drives don't like being hit or shaken). It came in the original unopened box that was in a thin bubble pack mailer. Bought it mainly as a place to store my hobby YouTube channel content (videos, and related media), as well as for future proofing as a long-term storage option. The drive was easy to install and set up. Just mount it within your case, plug in two cables. Then, for drives over 2TB (like the 4TB I bought) you need to manually format it to work in Windows. I've never done this before and it took me like 20 minutes of online research (the manuals WD gives access to doesn't show how to do this) and then a few clicks in Windows, and voila! A brand new formatted 4TB HDD. Ran CrystalDiskInfo and it seems there are no issues, and the drive is running very well. Very silent. It has double the read and write speed of the HGST 7200rpm drive I replaced it with (my old drive was starting to show pending sector counts and is several years old). Not sure if the HGST is SRM, though. It also has nearly double the read and write speed of the other 2TB 5400rpm 2.5 inch CRM drive on my PC right now, according to CrystalDiskInfo. I was surprised that although both are 5400rpm CRM drives, the WD Blue is significantly faster. I was able to copy ~300 GB of info in like 35 minutes. The WD Blue shows about 217 MB/s read sequential, 2.20 random. 213MB/s write sequential, 2.50 random. This is for 8GB files of the size I will normally be working with. Overall, I am pleased with the new WD Blue 4TB drive. It's silent, has surprising performance, and seems to be fully functional. Time will tell whether I got a lasting drive (they say that if your drive lasts a year it will probably last many years).

I bought the Western Digital 4TB WD Blue hard drive from Amazon on EMI because it was too expensive to pay all at once, and I had saved my money just to finally afford it. I stored a lot of important information on it, and within just 15 days it completely stopped working — now it’s totally kaput. For such an expensive product, this was extremely disappointing. I feel like my hard-earned money was wasted, and now I’m stuck dealing with the whole replacement or refund process, and on top of that, I still have to keep paying the EMI for nothing.
