I have no electronics experience but wish to learn, is this good to learn on for a complete novice? I would be teaching myself via books and the net.

It is an ideal base to start learning from. The power supply is fully metered with voltage and current so you can keep an eye open for problems, wrong connections, and the like. The breadboard allows for easy circuit development with no soldering. It is a piece of equipment that I have been looking for and now found. It is heavy but manageable all the same.
One main advantage is that there are no batteries involved. You set the voltage and away you go. No failure in your development circuits due to dud batteries, poor battery connections, low battery voltage, having to pinch batteries from the kids toys!
Comes with a pack of wires with bent ends to fit in the breadboard and which are usually needed to complete circuits.
