German Tutor: Grammar and Vocabulary Workbook (Learn German with Teach Yourself): Advanced beginner to upper intermediate course

Basics: New, arrived on time. Well made product from a well-executed series. The pages are made from quality paper and are holding up well a year after purchase. Content: The exercises within the book definitely aid learning, and tips are insightful. One thing to note is sometimes not enough space is provided to answer all questions. Especially for creative essay types where the learner is expected to create paragraphs based on a taught topic like family or tourism. This keeps the book in a reasonable format. I'd recommend using an exercise book for storing answers to these types of questions. You may also need a note pad for jotting down new vocabulary. I have not finished the book, but my knowledge seems to have deepened after covering 5 units out of (22). I would recommend this book to those looking for a language self-learning book. Excellent!

great book on time

This textbook looks very practical, up-to-date and clearly/attractively laid out, and a lot of thought has gone into presenting the grammatical complexities of German in an easy-to-digest manner. There appears to be much practical information and wisdom contained in the book as dispensed by the "tutors". It contains 200+ skill-building exercises as well as an answer key. I have now worked through the first 2 chapters. Overall, I'm quite impressed. In addition to the positives mentioned above I am finding a couple of negatives: sometimes the grammar topics are treated a little too briefly for my liking and I have been left at the end of the chapter wanting more explanation and/or practice. For more detail, the book refers you to chapters of the TY Complete German course. Secondly, so far I haven't found as much inspiration in the chapters for the writing exercises as I would have wanted. Also: some might argue that the book is a little "dry", but I suppose grammar and vocabulary practice are likely to be fairly so. Be warned that this book is not for beginners – you will need at least a pretty decent basic vocabulary and already be able to express yourself somewhat in writing.

This book is a gem. Clear explanations, ample exercises, and gradual difficulty progression. A lifesaver for improving grammar skills. Highly recommended!

EXCELLENT ITEM

Having recently returned to learning German after a long break, I found this to be an excellent guide - very clearly explained and helpful exercises.

It was an interesting grammar workbook to follow and it was easy to read. It was very well organized.

For some reason when I first looked up this book, I only saw positive reviews. Now that I'm looking over it again I'm seeing the exact things I wanted to say and complain about. This book assumes you know every word and has no translations for a lot of pretty advanced (and if I might add, unnecessary) vocabulary. It makes it a pain in the *** to study and read smoothly and looking up things so often proved to be so much of a nuisance I gave it. I did have prior knowledge of German, I am already B1, but even knowing as much as I did it felt like a chore going through this book. I do not recommend this book at all unfortunately. Caution to all. There's way better material out there!

In contrast to other books that teach grammar sparsly through randomly seperated lessons, this book teachs grammar in a structured way. Spending time in solving its exercises gives you a solid foundation in German grammar.
