Surprisingly study.
This base holds the post very well. You can wobble the post but there is no danger of it falling over. The base has withstood several very windy thunderstorms, even with two baskets of flowers hanging of the post. If the wobble becomes a problem, I will drill a small hole through the base and pole and insert a self-tapping screw.

Perfect mounting base for new outdoor lamp
I needed a mount for my new outdoor lamp to put on my wood lamp post. After measuring the size I needed, I found this item for a reasonable price and was made of metal. I had no problem installing the device into the 50 year old lamp post but I did use 3" screws to ensure the item was screwed into wood that was not rotted or dried out. The item did not come with screws, but was in a box and wrapped in plastic; nice touch. I would recommend this item if anyone is in need of a mount for their outdoor lamp. Ensure your lamp base mount fits over the mount base for lamps. We have a problem with spiders invading inside the lamp, so I sealed the base with a foam strip (light grey) and a gasket underneath the base mount. I also sealed the lamp cap (top piece) with 1/8" insulation strips.

Worked well to mount a bird feeder
I took a chance by ordering this for a 'non-standard' purpose, but it worked out quite well. The piece is well made, with a minimum of mold flashing that had to be filed off to make it fit, and it is quite sturdy. It survived a snowy New England winter without complaint.
