Good SSD replacement for a failing external HDD, which I need for backups from my computer. Easy to set up, format and it is doing the job.

When the Fusion Drive in our iMac broke down, I decided to try the 2TB version of this to rescue the situation. In a computer that's near impossible to open or refit the drive in, this was a silly idea of Apple's, I'll bet these Fusion drives all fail early. So bought this SSD USB drive in desperation to see if an iMac could even run with it as boot disk. Once the tribulations of the Mac OS install were done it turned out to work. A bit slow to boot up but once loaded, this 16 GB RAM iMac runs as fast in practice as with the internal disk. So far its been reliable in a year of ownership but I keep a Time Machine backup up to date (on a traditional non-SSD external drive) just in case.

The product itself if is well made and works well. No noise, lightweight, small, easy to use. My only issue is I had paid for a 2 TB drive and I've been given 1.8 therefore I am missing 200gb of storage which is alot. I understand storage devices require a bit of storage to be able to run but to be missing 200 gb? A bit excessive.

I have an existing external USB disk which is a Samsung Evo SSD in a SATA caddy and sustained write rate with that is 350 MB/s. This new SanDisk SSD however only achieves 200 MB/s. So, I would say that unless the portability is important you’re better off buying a SATA SSD and a caddy and doing it that way.I will be keeping this drive - it will be useful for backups and ISOs and so on - but I’ll be “replacing” it for my main use which is VirtualBox VMs.

This basically a glorified flash drive.If you prefer your hard drive to run red-hot and be much slower than a mechanical hard drive, then this is the device for you.I did a quick format on this drive, which should hsve taken seconds. Instead it hung my xps15 9530 laptop forcing a hard shutdown and recovery.Amazon askrd me if I wanted to troubleshoot the device myself, but, after that, I wasn't keen.

----UPDATE---After one month and a few days, the drive has completely died.Great if you use the included usbc to usba cord.Usbc to usbc on macos at least was slow as ...But with an adapter and the included cord was decent
