South America with Simon Reeve [DVD]

Simon Reeve is an easy going, honest, and knowledgeable presenter, and shows the good and bad sides of a vast continent. Many indigenous communities are oppressed, with their lives and environment in grave danger from the greed and corruption of multinational companies. But even I was surprised at seeing the “ clothing mountain”. We are all aware of the destruction of the Amazon, but this was even more depressing. The scenery, of course, made up for this, but for how long will its pristine beauty be a source of wonder and inspiration?

We love to watch Simon Reeve on his travels. He goes to places, we haven't been to, and he does exactly what a true traveler should do: fit in, take an interest in the local people and customs and be kind. We also love his message: More green time, less screen time! More, please!!!

I didn't know much about South America but after watching the series on North America I was hooked to see the rest. This is a very interesting and informative set of programmes. What a diverse and beautiful country it is. Simon Reeves also shows the underbelly and has an ability to connect with people at all levels. Quite a mesmerising piece of work and, as Simon says at the end, the most amazing journey of his life. A must watch for the camera work, the Pantanal, well, just about everything.

Can't get enough of this man. Funny, brave and empathetic. He makes me want to travel the world over and over again. Not seen anyone develop the kind of rapport he has with people since Michael Palin. Love love love him.
