I have the smaller version of this OXO colander and was very glad I came across this 4.7L version on AMAZON because they are not available in this size anywhere. This is perfect for straining larger amounts especially pasta, and nothing sticks in the tiny holes. I especially love the easy grip rubberised handles and the non slip rubberised base.

Whether or not it's a good value is up to you. I don't think there are exactly a lot of colander failures happening out there even if you buy a cheap one and it's not like the OXO will drain your noodles faster. But OXO is one of those brands where I just happily pay the extra $5 or $10. Everything they make is durable, nice to use, and thoughtfully designed. This is a colander, so there's not exactly a lot to say here. One thing that slightly sets it apart from the competition is the rubber handles and feet. The feet help the colander to stay in place if you're pouring something heavy into it and are leaning onto the colander a bit. (I do worry if the rubber might degrade over time, especially if put through a dishwasher. But, I guess it would just be a regular colander at that point, not a total loss) Other than that... it uh, works. It drains things! Feels thick and sturdy! It apparently is sized to nest with other OXO colanders and mixing bowls which could be a huge bonus for some.

I considered America’s Test Kitchen top recommendation but I didn’t like the wider and lower design, the soldered handles and the solid ring base with no outlet for collected water. I have looked at many options but trying out 3 qt version. It was great so I bought a second 5 Qt version. The Oxo Good Grips S/S colander 5qt is superior in my opinion because: 1. It is narrower and taller so it fits deeper and/ narrower bowls and saves valuable space on countertops during food prep. 2. The handles are solid and wide and attached to the thicker rim so they are easier to lift with heavier food items like soaked rice and have a higher chance of not detaching since they are not soldered to the thinner and highly perforated bowl like the cheaper Ikea colander. 3. There are 3 wide curved feet which is a better and more stable design than the other Oxo colander reviewed by ATK. It is not a solid ring like the “top rated colander” so water does not collect below. 4. Quality of make is great with no sharp edges around perforations and thicker steel. 5. The perforations are about 2 mm and is able to drain rice well. I have drained 1.5 kg of soaked sweet rice (or mochigome/glutinous rice) in the 3 Qt version with very minimal rice leakage. The dimensions are: Ext Width With handles 32cm Bowl Ext W28.1 cm Internal W24.5 cm H14.8 cm Height of feet 8-9mm The colander fits in a 24 cm inner diameter WMF pot and a 23.5 cm inner diamer 7qt NSF KitchenAid Bowl (from my 7qt KA Commercial Mixer). Not perfectly but OK. It is especially great for maximizing volume utilization of deeper, curved bowls with top inner diameter of 23-24 cm. The shape is very forgiving and It can also be used with narrower but lower bowls. The only flaw, if it is even a flaw, is that the base sits too low at 8-9mm above the sink, compared to the “top rated colander”. For cooked pasta, direct draining into the sink invites concerns about splashbacks. No matter how high the base is above the sink, splashbacks cannot be totally eliminated anyway. Solution? Place a low, flat dish under the colander. The advantage of a lower base is that if you are drip drying already drained food items, the lower sitting colander sits closer to the base without wasting volume. I have both the 3Qt and 5Qt colanders from OXO. Having both would set you up well for most kitchen tasks. Buy the 5Qt colander if you only have space or budget for one and forget cheaper, lesser ones.
