If one buys 2 base units (and consequently 2 wireless handsets), will all 4 units work together, I.e. transfer calls or use the intercom between units

You can only transfer calls and use the intercom facility between the base station and any remote handsets registered to that base station or between remote handsets registered to the same base station. I have two base stations - one upstairs and one downstairs. The handsets upstairs are registered with the base station downstairs and the handsets downstairs are registered with the base station upstairs and it all works fine. Note though that if you are intending to use the built-in answering machine you can only have one switched on otherwise the caller hears two recorded messages slightly out of sync - very confusing!
