Star Wars: Darth Maul - Son of Dathomir

I got this for my 12 year old son to read in the run up to the new Maul Shadow Lord animated series, but couldn’t resist giving it a read myself! It’s basically a comic adaptation of what would (and indeed should) have been an arc of the Clone Wars TV series which ended up getting cancelled around the time Disney bought into Star Wars. Really it’s a shame it didn’t get made into animation as it’s very good, but at least we have this comic book. If you are a fan of Maul and would like to fill in some blanks of his story, then this is highly recommended by us.

If you watched the Clone Wars series, including the final season, and wondered how Maul escaped from the clutches of Darth Sidious, this book holds the answer. Son of Dathomir is an unproduced 4-episode arc that really should have been made in order for the series to make sense. Maybe one day it will be, but until then, all we have is this. Thankfully it's very good, the transfer to another visual medium helping immensely.

The first Arc of the canon comics (and only Canon comic not printed by Marvel) is a very good one, featuring Darth Maul and Mother Talzin working to overcome Sideous, Dooku, and Greivous. A LOT of action featuring Greivous, Maul, and Mandalorians, definitely a must-buy for TCW fans! IMPORTANT: This comic follows Season 5 of The Clone Wars, and will have spoilers for those of you who haven't yet seen the show. I recommend you watch that first before reading this.

It ends more ambiguously than the series. Still no resolution to Maul's arc. The points with Sidious were brilliant, just as with the series, but when we're introduced to a Jedi we don't see in Revenge of the Sith for a life and death battle with 3 other Jedi we know will survive, it becomes predictable as to who will die.

Great set of stories that were meant to be included in the clone wars but missed out. Interesting to hear more about maul and the shadow collective.

An enjoyable romp with Tyranus and Maul - something we should have been treated to a long time ago. Both characters are portrayed well, and it's satisfying to see some of the loose ends from Clone Wars being addressed. One of the few good Disney additions, if a bit short and stilted at times.

Product arrived on time in perfect condition. I’ve only read the first chapter. Very excited to continue. One thing to note which isn’t explicitly stated is that this is a comic book, not a novel.

Its ok. I don't believe all that crap about maul serving the Phantom Menace but i bought it anyway. Its ok but not great.

A great comic and a must have for all Darth Maul's fans. It is also a preparation for Darth Maul Shadow Hunter on Disney Plus and the events of the comics follow directly Maul's capture at the hands of Sidious on mandalore
