Exceeded expectations
I had a great time with this build! The submarine itself is very detailed interior design, including missiles, torpedoes, nuclear reactors, control room, meeting room, and even a little periscope. I also liked the stickers it came with as they seemed pretty appropriate to what you would imagine to be going on inside a nuclear attack submarine. The build itself took me about an hour or so for each bag so 5 to 6 hours total and that is with organizing the pieces before building each section (total 4). It’s set up similar to the Lego system where each main section is separated so it’s pretty organized. The instruction book itself is pretty easy to read and follow. The bricks themselves stick very well, things weren’t just falling off like you would find with some of the other brands outside of Legos. Matter fact, they stick to well so you have to be careful when putting down the parts because a few times I placed a piece in the wrong spot, and it took me a while to get it off. I ask liked the lighting feature it came with. Additionally, there are no extra pieces so if you lose something you’re out of luck but – I like knowing that I had every piece accounted for after finishing each section. The creator of this build did a great job engineering each part so everything works well together. The completed model itself is very sturdy and heavy. It’s very detailed and reminded me of a Lego ideas project. When I get a chance, I’m going to see what else this company has available because I was super satisfied with their product. This builds really set a bar for all the other ones I will do after.

Challenging and detailed!
This was a challenging but very satisfying model to build. It is not for the "faint of heart". I have built several Lego "Creator Expert" and "Ideas" models, and this was more challenging. Most of the 1500 pieces are small. It takes some "finicking" and a small pair of needle nose pilers to assemble some. I strongly recommend cementing the bottom level and everything on it. Plastic model cement works fine and does not melt the plastic together in case you need to separate pieces after. If I built it again, I would cement the entire model. There are only a couple of parts that need to move on it.Cementing is recommended since the model is not really stable until you get the second, and sometimes the third level built. Also, the model is just over 2 feet long. Working on a model 2 feet long and about 2 inches in diameter without cementing the pieces results in sections coming apart as you work on the next. And grasping a lower section while snapping in upper pieces or section will result in pieces coming off. The front torpedoes, especially.I built the plastic model of a nuclear submarine the showed the entire interior when I was in high school (many years ago), so building this gave me much of satisfaction. In respect to my ratings, it is NOT easy to assemble and would not give it as a gift to anyone less than age 16. But if you are a Master Builder and looking for a challenge, this is for you!

Great build!
Very realistic model! Twice a piece appears out of nowhere, and was never included in a prior step. Another time, a piece was added, but then the pieces on top do not fit correctly, so that piece had to be removed. The interior of the sub is very detailed, and the image online makes it seem the sides will open on a hinge, but they do not, so the only way to see the inside is to detach the side panel. Movable ICBM doors are a nice touch, as is the intricate engine system. Overall, a great building experience.

Don't be thrown off by a brand you may not have heard of.. This was a fun build.
I have to admit that I was a little skeptical of a brand that i have not previously heard of, but I really liked the idea of building a submarine. This model did not disappoint. I don't think I would hesitate to buy another JMBricklayer model after my experience with this one. I think I was missing one piece, but it was a very common color and size, and had plenty of extra pieces from other kits that I have put together. This was challenging, and I did find myself going back looking at prior steps to see if I had misplaced a piece somewhere, and I think I found that I had quite a few times. The instructions are more dense that the name brand (not sure if I can say the name here) but if you take you time, and think about what you are doing, you shouldn't have any problems.Overall a great build. I would estimate that it took me about 18-20 hours over the course of a month. I was doing other things while building the sub, so I could probably have completed it a little quicker if I was only working on it.I would post a picture, but it would just look like every one else's. I didn't really have a problem with blocks sticking together. The first get levels may be a bit challenging because you end up with something that's almost 24" long and it's like 3 to 4 layers thick and very "flexible". It may have to build the base stands first (the brownish-red pieces) to support the lower layers when starting out, because once you add the tail, near the beginning, it does cause some flexing while the model is at rest.Key takeaways: take your time and don't be in a hurry. Have fun.

Well worth the price for the build quality and time to put it together. A Navy vet must have.
My family are huge fans of Lego set, but didn't have anything like this submarine. I bought as a Christmas gift for my navy son. I read the reviews and still hesitant due to not being a Lego branded set and the price. Once we started putting it together, the quality of pieces, instructions and overall complexity was great. I've had great Lego sets and horrible sets. We built Mega blocks, no named blocks and now this. This is by far one of our favorites. The attention to detail made this feel like the price was worth it, and will be buying another one again when a high quality build is wanted.

This is a adult build.
This is a challenging build due to the tight fit of the blocks. No missing parts. Looks impressive when complete. I added lights which was easy to do. A good addition to my collection. I would recommend super glue for a lot of the build. Especially the first 2 layers and most components. They easily fall off when bumped. Especially the torpedo assembly. I read that from another review. And it paid off. Not for young builders.

Great looking. Enjoyable to build.
Very nice kit with good color instructions and nicely colored plastic pieces. The little reactor can be turned on and has a nice red glow.As a former sub sailor I could point out some technical issues but this is not meant to be super accurate. It has the basic compartments to give a good idea of a ballistic sub with torpedos. I have not completed the build at the time of my review, but so far, no issues. Glad I bought this.

Attempted to make me hate brick building.
I was so excited to find a nuclear submarine as I perused Amazon brick builds. I have hundreds of lego sets and a handful of non brand sets. I wasn’t expecting name brand quality but out of the box the bricks appear decent. Lighweight, but good. The bags are labeled by number, with each bag having more ‘sub’ bags (pun intended)I began the build. It is arranged in layers, and the first layer was fine. I was able to set up the foundation fairly easily. I was happy - my sub was happy. The second layer (bag 2) okay. So some of these pieces have serious attachment issues. Some bricks do not line up well with others, the interlock is far from perfect. My fingers get sore fast, and I contemplate my choices. But c'mon, subs are awesome! And I love the detail that they put into it.Bag 3. For each piece I successfully attach - 3+ fall off. This set is dragging on longer than a certain dark lord ship…. I am patient, I continue. Half way through bag 3… chunks fall off as each piece is added. I have put the same sections back together over 5 times at this point. The design needs work. The bricks need therapy and I need a straight jacket. I continue, at this point it’s personal. 3/4 of bag 3. Rage hits. Lots of swears, thoughts of throwing it across the room. I can’t even look at this, my husband is forced to move it to a different floor of the house, hidden. I scream. Be careful it breaks! With that hope that maybe I can still make it work. If ever I want to feel intense rage or if I want to gift to an enemy - it may be pulled out again.I am giving this 2 stars because it is a good concept - but the execution is THE WORST - the pieces do not interlock properly which hurts your fingers building AND also causes sections to fall off as you continue to build. It is pointless as a set if you can't build it without glue or other superpowers.Don't buy it for yourself - buy it for someone you secretly hate or a child that won't stay off your lawn.

Nice nuclear submarine
I bought this for my son and he enjoyed putting it together. Removable panels reveal a detailed interior with lots of compartments. Even has working lights in the reactor room and on the conning tower. The instructions were fairly easy to follow too with good pictures. The only issue we had was a damaged piece, but the company's customer service was great. They sent us out a new piece within a week.Recommended.
