Jim was a multi-celled life form happily burrowing through the topsoil. His life changed in a flash when an extraterrestrial super-suit fell out of the sky. Instantly transformed from a 98 gram weakling into a muscular worm endowed with superpowers, extraordinary strength and the ability to leap incredible heights and distances, the suit renders him invulnerable. Earthworm Jim daring defender of Earth, the cosmos and everything in between! Review: Once again, the trousers of evil are yanked down by the mocking hands of justice! - This is a cartoon series about the galaxy's mightiest invertebrate, Earthworm Jim, voiced by Dan Castellanetta of Simpsons fame. Jim travels the universe fighting evil, ably assisted by his sidekick Peter Puppy (except when Peter transforms into a ferocious monster), his maybe-loveinterest Princess What's-her-name, and small green blob called Snot. This is also a series that mocks the conventions of comics, pulp stories and movies, breaks the fourth wall, and generally puns, japes and running gags its way though one surreal situation after another. Although the show is suitable for children, the humour is grownup and absurdist, and some of the references like Frank Herbert's Dune, the Stooges, and I Love Lucy would be lost on a younger audience. It feels a lot like later episodes of Dangermouse or a clean version of Austin Powers. The humour of this show is priceless. During the course of an episode the characters will argue with the narrator, criticise the script, and ramble pedantically at the slightest provocation (Psycrow: "Face your doom, spineless worm thingy." Jim: "Is that supposed to be an insult? I really don't have a spine.") The show avoids 'expensive' action sequences with spurious newsflashes, cutting back when Jim's victory is complete. In one episode, when all the colour disappears, the characters post a cheque to Universal as they realise that the cartoon's budget has run out. Their adventures include a quest to retrieve a missing eggbeater, the search for the Great Fur-Bearin' Trout, an invasion of sinister furniture, defeating a universe destroying spell hidden in Jim's copy of Fuzzy Wuzzy's Funny Animals Pop-Up Book, and dealing with Jim's evil twin ("Oh, I should have known! Superheroes and evil twins go together like peanut butter and... evil peanut butter.") Jim even gets to meet his creator - Doug TenNappel, the show's producer. After sporadic releases on VHS and online, we have this boxset which contains all 23 episodes of the show. The sound and video quality are good, though the episode Hyper Psy-Crow is noticeably duller and grainier than the others, which makes me wonder if it has been rescued from less than perfect source. That won't spoil your enjoyment however and it's great to have the whole series complete. Although this is an Australian release, it is Region 2 and PAL and should play happily in your DVD or Bluray player if you are here in the UK. Now as the proper ending for this review was deemed unsuitable for readers of a nervous disposition, I leave you with... a random selection of dialog! Earthworm Jim: Gah! My one weakness! Wormtenite! Princess Whats-Her-Name: (to Peter) Wormtenite? Peter: It's a mysterious substance that has unpredictable effects on Jim. Princess Whats-Her-Name: Well, uh, is it from another galaxy or something? Peter: No, he found it in the fridge one day. We think maybe it used to be cheese. Review: Top quality 90's animation for all ages - Finally this reprint is available at an affordable price. Released at video-game character Earthworm Jim's height during the mid-90s this cartoon had huge amounts of effort pored into it, fleshing out the characters from the games far more than the source material did whilst pleasing game fans as well. It's irreverant, doesn't take itself too seriously and keeps things moving at a solid pace. The jokes are basic enough that children will get them but thanks to some incredibly charasmatic line delivery from all the main players will still manage to wring smiles from adults. It's loud and over the top without being brash, and everything from the exhuberant title tune which lampoons Jim, to the brief unrelated segments that crop up partway through each episode and give little cameos to the villians, is well thought out. The colours are bright thanks to a top notch transfer and the animation is smooth and crisp. All the character designs are drawn cohesively and it stands as strong on technical merits as it does the oddball, but not self conscious, joke delivery. Really one of the gems of the 90's and this is a spot on release of it.

You don't know this guy ?
Then get your card out and start having some fun that isn't just for the kids. This is a cult thing that doesn't really have a cult..... :( The thing about Jim is that the humor grows with the episodes getting more reticules. And ! It has got levels to it that work really well as you see this again. I'd get tons of merchandise if I had the unlimited funds for this. THERE IS ONLY SO MUCH

A must buy!
If you don't want to buy this, I've got only one question for you....Why not?!! Earthworm Jim was a fantastic cartoon when it first appeared and after watching my three year old niece reduced to transfixed silence watching it, I would suggest that there is a whole new generation out there just waiting to be introduced to Jim, Peter, Queen slug-for-a-Butt et al Buy it, watch it, love it !!!!!

Excellent walk down memory lane
We first came across Earthworm Jim when our son was small (he is now 21). The whole family used to look forward to these episodes and it was wonderful to find the DVD box set. We have sat round as a family roaring with laughter at our favourite episodes and also caught up with a few that we missed. Look forward to introducing future generations to this amazing character and his sidekick!

Very Funny! Stands up to modern kids toons
I remember this being hilariously funny when I saw it on tv as a youngster & I wasn't wrong it's bluddy great fun & probably could stand up to modern kids toons on tv. Dan Castellaneta the voice of Homer Simpson here voices Earthworm Jim & plays it brilliantly also I didn't realise it was based on a computer game.

EARTHWORM JIM :D
Great series, love the show. But a note to anyone considering this item, though the product description reads a being region 0, it is in fact region 4. Regardless, it should play on any UK based DVD/BLURAY player. (Tested it on my PS4)

Silly, funny, fun!
I remembered watching this show as a kid so I bought the DVD based on that vague memory. I am so happy that I did! This show is so funny! I was laughing my head off! Its better than what I remembered. I forgot all about Peter Puppy the monster dog and Princess What's Her Name...not to mention Queen Giant Pus Filled Sweaty Slug For A Butt, and how did I forget Evil the Cat? I also noticed that the hench-rat has little tiny bombs on his sleeves. My favorite moment so far was when Earthworm Jim fought the three mutant alligators. He just opened the first one's mouth and shoved the other two in! I was dying! The comedic timing is AWESOME as well! When Peter Puppy finds out what Haggis is made of, he just sits there stunned while the show goes on, then at least two full minutes later he recites what he was told! BRILLIANT! Again I was dying! I can't wait to share this with the kids in my life. They are going to burst out laughing and then I'll likely never get it back! In short: VERY funny show, full of silliness and loads of fun! What are you still reading this for? BUY IT ALREADY!!!

What fans have been panting over for years
I never thought I'd see this come into reality. Earthworm Jim was an animated series that ran for two seasons from 1995-1996 on Kid's WB TV. It's based on the surreal humor video game for Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. The cartoon was unlike any other animated show. The show constantly breaks the fourth wall, which they do it in a way that is original. Every episode leaves you laughing every second. There is not a dull moment in this series and that is something that most cartoons these days are lacking. If you think that an extraterrestrial super suit that fell from space and landed on an earthworm then granted him super powers is funny and freaking awesome, then prepare to place an order. Finally, the complete series of Earthworm Jim is here on dvd. The product is truly the best Earthworm Jim as ever looked. All 23 episodes of the series are here spread over three discs. There are no special features, but who cares? We finally have Earthworm Jim in complete series form. The video and audio quality is the best Earthworm Jim as ever held. And now this dvd set is at a price that is unbeatable. So log on to your amazon account and place an order for Earthworm Jim: The Complete Series. You will enjoy every second of this amazing animated series.
