Wicked: The Grimmerie, a Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Hit Broadway Musical

I'm pretty sure that if you're looking at this book then it's somehow linked to the highly successful musical. Whether you've seen the show and loved it or maybe you know someone else who loves it I can only recommend that this is a great purchase for anyone who really enjoyed "Wicked - The Musical" I should point out that I'm a pretty typical British guy. I love my football more than I love my music, films, books, etc so you could hardly label me a "theatre-buff". I do still really enjoy my entertainment (usually American-produced) & I catch any show that takes my fancy but it's usually musicals with very-high production-values that I enjoy most. I have to say that "Wicked" simply blew me away - the music, the perfomances, the sets, the story, everything really. Quickly after seeing the show I read Gregory McQuire's novel which I'd had my eye on for years but it was "The Grimmerie" that really gave me most pleasure to read. I love Behind-the-Scenes books anyway but this book is sheer class. It's inevitably linked to the original Broadway production so in terms of performers the cast won't be the same ones you'll be watching in theatre's now but everything else is directly related to the show you'll have seen. Probably the most beautifully-produced book I own, it's 200 pages of superbly insightful text & pictures that takes the reader through the entire process of getting Wicked onto the stage, all bound in a wonderful soft-to-the-touch cover. The whole design of this book oozes class, from the quality of the paper it's made from to the design of each page & I guess if I had any criticism it's that the number of full page photo's & almost-complete words & music of the entire show do take up a lot of the 200 pages but that's just being greedy and wanting more text. Overall if you enjoyed the show and would either like a great souvenir or would just love to know more about "Wicked" then I can't recommend The Grimmerie enough

I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I bought the Grimmerie, as my only points of reference were the cover, and amazon uk/us site reviews. However, if anyone considers themselves a serious fan of the show, this is absolutely a must-have. There is alot of detail on how the show was put togther, how it came to be from the first ideas of the plot in Maguire's head to a fully-fledged hit on Broadway. The photos are fantastic, although most were nothing I hadn't seen before from promotional shots except for some like those of Elphie "getting green" and some special shots of the tour cast etc. The detail that has gone into the book is wonderful and the size and material within it are well worth the price. I was disappointed by nothing, and so thoroughly recommend it. It's a great companion book to the show, and I've not yet seen something quite like it, bar the Rent "bible" by Jonathon Larson. Hopefully it'll inspire other hit shows to do the same!

It's definitely been great to look into the story & this book is a great quality hardback book. Enjoy reading about the varions characters within the Land of Oz along with the relation ship of the leads Elphaba & Glinda. This book will enable others within my home to enjoy the story of " Wicked " whilst learning about the wonderful land of Oz.

I have owned this book myself since 2007 which I still adore to this day. Since then, a friend of mine has got into Wicked as much as I am which prompted me to take her to see the show for her birthday; she loved it. This book is the greatest companion for anyone who loves the story and music of Wicked and/or is intrigued into how the set was put together, how the costume designs were chosen and interviews from past Wicked character performers. The Grimmerie is of finest quality; the padded cover and aged-looking pages give the book that authentic feel with some great quality photos contained.

got it as a present originally as the book is lovely, the quality is great but the corners are pretty damaged from the poor packaging. i cant say if its always going to be chucked in a box! but if you or someone you know loves musicals, its a must have

I'm a big fan of Wicked and have wanted to own this book for a while and wasn't disappointed. It's really beautifully made and printed, even sitting on the bookshelf it really stands out. It's full of really interesting content too, despite being a fan for so long I still found out things from it I didn't already know, and I like that it covers things like the original L Frank Baum books and has some insight from Gregory Maguire and the differences between the musical and the book.

This is a beautiful book. It is made to look like a leather-bound hand-written tome from the library of Oz and charts the development of the Broadway version of Wicked. It has loads of photos of the first few casts of the show on stage and in rehearsal and includes all the song lyrics and copious notes on the design features and costumes. I even discovered how to turn myself Elfaba green... This book would make a lovely present for any fan of Wicked.

It is very informational and even tells you the history of Wicked. I also think that it’s a very nicely organized book so you won’t get confused or mixed up with the sequence. By the way I’m only 9 years old, and a big fan of Musicals especially Wicked.

What a marvelous book! It’s a wealth of information regarding the Broadway musical, but also offers new insights about the novel that started it all. I saw the musical many years ago and was too young to fully appreciate the experience - this book provides everything I could want to know about the show, and makes me remember that magical experience in a fresh way. Great quality and arrived in nearly perfect condition (very small rip at one corner, but for an Amazon book that’s absolutely wonderful condition, lol). The photos and text are crisp, the illustrative design is breathtaking, and the covers even have a nice plushy quality to them that feels amazing in the hands. It’s just a big beautiful book overall, and I couldn’t be happier with it! If you love the musical, have seen the movies, or even if you’ve only read the book - PICK THIS UP! You won’t regret it!
