LG GP60 External DVD Drive, Slim Portable DVD Burner/Writer/Player for Laptop, Windows and Mac OS Compatible, USB 2.0, 8x Read/Write Speed - Black

Purchased the drive to rip CD collection. I purchased a Mini USB to USBC data cable at the same time, the supplied cable is mini USB to USBA. Using an 2026 M5 MacBook Air, plugged the drive in and MacOS promoted to allow the drive, once authorised, it connected without issue. Despite a number of reviews I read stating that the USBC ports on the latest silicon Macs were not able to power external drives, in this case, that was incorrect Using XLD software I was ripping Flac files to a local NAS in under a minute. I can also highly recommend XLD for MacOS...it's straightforward to configure and is simple in operation. Suggest that if you are a first time user that you do some research on file structure config and rip settings etc. Great bit of open source software. I spent an inordinate amount of time ahead of purchase looking for a decent 'pro' level drive as I am wanting to digitise a substantial CD collection for the best quality archive and playback. Various AI LLM's kept pointing me back to this LG as the best balance between value and quality. I would have honestly paid more for a highly regarded device like those from Pioneer; these types of high quality drives were discontinued a long time ago - I would love to justify spending £1000+ on a used drive imported from Japan! Time will tell if the LG holds up to extensive use. The drive appears to be well built and has an acceptable (to me) level of noise in operation, it's pretty quiet considering what it does. I have given it five stars based on first impressions (my expectations were pretty low) of acceptable build quality and it's function.

The drive works fine and is fairly quiet. The cable is Mini USB to USB A which is an old standard and might affect how you manage cables. It is best kept flat on a desk to support the tray as the disk clips are quite tight and the tray feels quite flimsy

Use this to rip all my old CDs, works great and the read speed was good for my needs. Been using it for a while now and not had any issues. Not all that quiet, but doesn't need to be in my opinion. Easy plug and play on Windows 11.

Set the above drive up as directed, made easier by having access to driver disc. First use was uploading some cds to iTunes on my windows 11 pc, no problems worked straight away. would definitely recommend this drive.

I've just bought a lovely gaming PC but it never crossed my mind that they don't tend to come with CD/DVD drives anymore. This would be a problem as I like to import my CDs into iTunes so I purchased this drive for what was a low price from a reliable brand. It plugs it via a standard USB (no need for additional power) and works effectively and in relative silence. When not in use, I simply put it into storage. Does a great job and much easier (and cleaner on the looks) than putting a drive into my actual gaming PC.

Item arrived quickly but it was sent in the original box with no protection. I was immediately annoyed because it just happens this is for me but imagine if I wanted to give this as a present to someone. Box is completely battered from the postage and travel. It comes with a cyberlink suite disc but I've not used it as I have my own DVD CD burner software. The device worked straight from the box and is very light weight with a decent connector cable. It's looks slimmer than other devices I had before. I connected to my HP envy laptop with windows 11 and it worked immediately. At the time of writing this review I managed to write 8 music CDs of my own production and it's taken less than 20 minutes. The instructions are useless but with a bit of intuition we can get around any issues. The device doesn't say anywhere that it's a DVD CD writer so I'm going to have to stick a label. The box states it can connect to a TV and be used as a DVD player but that is not true. My TV wouldn't even recognise it. So far it's working ok and it's not damaged any CD like the other burner I was using before. It not very noisy but it's makes a noticeable fan noise which is typical to CD burners. I'll update when I use the cyberlink media suite that comes with it and when I try to burn DVDs too.

Works but no mention of it being non pal region and coming from another country. it rips (so far) but is much slower as make mkv has to do work arounds. Bought exactly thr same one about 9 months ago and was perfect untill ripped my whole dvd collection whocj was alot.

Not much to say – it arrived quickly and works flawlessly with Windows 11. It does everything it’s supposed to, isn’t particularly noisy, and I’m happy with my purchase. I chose it for the brand; we’ll see how long it lasts over time.
