Fantastic cage, but the doors annoy me!
This is a great cage! Honestly one of the best cages you can buy for rats! The only thing I don't like is for the price it could be built a little better! Overall it's really good, the issue is the doors! Like everyone else has said, the doors are crooked and don't quite perfectly lock in the holes. They will shut and they will stay shut, but you've got to be careful and make sure you close them properly and push them in, otherwise you might end up coming in the room to see your rats have escaped and are sitting on top of the kitchen counter 🤦 So just make sure those doors are locked shut! Or perhaps could get some clips or ties to make sure the doors are even more secure! Other than the doors... It's a great size! Sturdy and look great! All doors open fully, so it makes cleaning easy! And lots of space and bars and hooks on the ledges to hang stuff. You can keep the ledges in or take them out. You can DIY wood or plastic guards around the bottoms to keep bedding in and so they don't kick it out all over the floor. And it has a fair amount of space underneath for you to store their food and toys and is easy to move around. Definitely happy with the purchase.

Roomy, easy to assemble and deep clean/spot clean.
Outstanding cage! I started with 2 rats in a Freddy Savic 2 cage. I knew I wouldn’t be able to help myself and not buy more rats so I did and upgraded to this cage after reading the reviews. My one, huge regret is that I didn’t buy this cage first. Had I done so, I wouldn’t have needed to buy another. Suitable for multiple rats, horizontal bars all round, can leave the middle part on or off for an even bigger space for your furries, add or leave out the shelving ( I did as they tend to be pee magnets!) the addition of fully opening double doors on both top and bottom is so sensible as allows for ease of handling your pocket puppies and cleaning. I have absolutely nothing negative at all I can say about this cage. Superior quality that is just amazing. The only thing I’m having trouble with is trying to stop myself adding more rats 😆 Seriously, don’t think about buying this cage, just DO IT!!!

The best rat cage money can buy!
This is literally the best rat cage money can buy. Great, sturdy quality. It also looks nice as an added bonus. It was easy to build in no time, probably about 10 minutes - it did require a little bit of rubber malleting but that's worth it for the sheer quality of this thing. Seriously, it's amazing. I love it. My rats love it. It's like a mansion for rats! It's so easy to clean, the doors are 100% perfect, you can access all corners of the cage easily. The undercage storage is great for keeping all your pet's toys, food, bedding etc. The locking wheels work well too and make cleaning behind and under the cage easy rather than a chore. All in all, if you want rats, or presumably other small pets, this is the ONLY cage you should buy!

Is it a good substitute for Savic Royal Suite?
Good cage for the most part but it is not the most sturdy cage you'll ever see, can be wobbly. Doors open and close fine but not aligned , both left side doors are 'lower' than the right. Easy to assemble but watch out if the holes dont line up through bad manufacturing- I had to prise open a couple of the gaps to make bigger to allow the cage to slot in Also, the base is probably 1"x1" too small so moves around the bottom, but when the substrate & toys etc are in not noticeable but as there is a lack of 'guard' or side panels all the substrate is going to end up being pushed out so i will look for some perspex as a surround to stop mess.

A must buy for any rat owner
I'm absolutely blown away by the quality and how big the unit at actually. My four boys that are around 1 years older absolutely loving it they have so much space. For the price is an absolute bargain if you buy a cage from pets at home you're looking around 110 pound and even then it's only a temporary until they get older

Really good cage for rats (or other critters)
I dropped the bottom of the cage (and added a deep perspex base) and it's a nice spacious cage even just the bottom half. It feels sturdy. It's nice to know you can the top level in the future. The cage is sturdy, and since it has horizontal bars all over it makes it easy to hang lots of things. I use it for my rats and I think if the space is used wisely you can have 4-5 rats in it. The wheels also work well and it's easy to move it. The cage was easy to assemble but I did need my husband to use some force in one bit, everything else I did it myself with no issues. The instructions could be a bit more user friendly, make sure to actually read it before assembling it (I didn't and had to go back a couple of steps).

Cage is great, Doors aren’t even, delivery was rubbish
Been wanting a bigger and better cage for my 4 male rats since I didn’t like their first one and this one I wasn’t sure about because the amount of money I spent on it. The cage arrived on the day they said it would which was good, delivery was terrible though, I was at least expecting them to put it in the porch to help me out a bit I’m 5ft I couldn’t of lifted that inside on my own. Instead the delivery person placed it on my drive which is fully open! So I had to stand with it and wait until a family member came home to help me. So for that reason I am disappointed in their delivery service as well. To put it up was easy ish some bits were harder than the other but we got there eventually. The cage itself I do love because it has big double doors that open fully and is very spacious which I like. The doors help with interacting with your rats as well. They only thing I would say is that it’s not the best quality, you’re paying £300 for a cage it should be top knotch but it wasn’t, my doors don’t shut even ones lower than the other, sometimes I have trouble shutting them. Always double check every time I shut them. Apart from the cage doors it is a brilliant cage but I am disappointed after paying £300 and the doors aren’t even and that they’re hard to close.

Amazing
My first cage for my 2 boys was the paw hut.. would never buy again. Within 3 months it was rusting and just wasnt great accessibility wise to clean. The critter nation.. well. Its not cheap but im so glad I upgraded and invested. So much better built. Sturdy and spacious. The doors are great as they fully open allowing for easy access and cleaning. So easy to use, assemble and keep if you have the room. A massive difference and my 2 boys abs love it. I dont overfill mine as im quite hygienic and my boys dont lime overcrowded cage so just enough in there for them. I wish id have done the research and got this first time and saved myself £80 buying the wrong thing

The Ultimate Rat Mansion
What is there to say that hasn't already been said? This is THE CAGE for pet rat owners. If you need more room later this cage literally sells extensions to just make it this cage+. It's spacious, its got a solid floor and thats easy to remove for cleaning and its got doors that open all the way up for easy access to your furry friends. It was also very easy to put together. The only suggestion I have is to have a screwdriver on hand. They send you one but that little thing isn't really cut out for the job. A mallet is suggested by the instructions but you can make do. (I did) The all metal construction makes for a heavy box but the thing has wheels once put together and that same metal is why it wont easily break later. I went from a normal sized cage to this little rat mansion and my boys have literally been bouncing and running around in there all week. They're way more comfortable and active now that there's more play space. If you're looking at the price and wondering if you should... Yes. In the long run you'll be better served by one cage that lasts a lifetime then having to rebuy new cages your pets grew out of. It's a smart purchase and this thing comes highly recommended on pretty much every forum for rat lovers. Edit: I forgot to mention one thing. They also sell little scatter guards for this cage specifically to keep your friends from redecorating the rest of your house with their bedding. I'm reviewing those separately but Id get them as well. They're cheap and they solve the only real issue with this cage... The shallow floor pan.

Big cage, with great accessories.
Very nice cage. Big and easy to clean. It came a bit dented, probably from shipping. I had to gently hammer it into shape before I could assemble it. Bought the extra coverings and scatter guard. Without it the shallow bottom tray can not hold the required amount of bedding.

Worth the money - love this cage!
Great cage for pet rats - I'm so glad I was picky about getting a cage and waited to buy this one on sale. It's built to last and there is lots of room for rats to run around. My fella crawls all over the walls to get my attention when I'm busy and the spacing is still big enough for me to tickle his belly with my pinky finger. Love that the front opens completely so you can visit with your rats while they are in the cage (especially great for building trust with new rats) and for moving items in and out. I was able to put it together myself but had to call the company because the side pieces absolutely did not fit…turns out there are plastic inserts that need to be removed and there was no note of this on the instructions. I felt like a dummy but the customer service agent made it sound like I was not the only one with this issue. Bonus about investing in this cage is you can likely resell privately for at least half the cost if you don't need it any longer. Also kudos to Amazon because it was delivered on the second business day after I placed the order!

A great buy
I've had this cage for 8 months and have put it through moderate to heavy use, but I don't see it giving out anytime soon. Mine came with all the pieces intact, though one of the trays was cracked along the edge (it didn't affect the functionality so I didn't ask for a replacement.) I assembled it mostly without issue in about two hours. It is huge. I'm about 5'3 and I'm head-to-head with this cage. It's very large inside as well, and most of the room comes from the vertical space, which makes it great for animals that climb. It is a bit cumbersome and has a large footprint, but aesthetically it's not an eyesore. The durability has been great, the whole cage is sturdy and seems very well built. Nothing has bent or broken. There is some rusting beginning in the corners where the cage connects, though. Portability has been a hit and miss issue for me; the wheels are uncooperative and frequently stick or freeze up when I want to take it across the room (note: the locks on the wheels work very well and the cage doesn't budge when they are engaged), but on the other hand I have had to move it up two floors and it was extremely easy to pull apart the two levels and carry them up separately. The cage is surprisingly lightweight without sacrificing that sturdy feeling. Cleaning is fairly easy; the two largest trays are a bit difficult to remove and need to be tilted at a 45 degree angle before they will fit through the cage opening, but once you get them out they are as easy to clean as any piece of hard plastic. The bars are easy to clean as well. I've noticed that anything in the corners of the top level (food, bedding, waste, etc) will fall easily to the bottom level, which can make things messy if you're housing animals separately. The bars are horizontal which makes them easy to climb, whether that is a pro or con depends on what kind of animal you're housing. The spacing of the bars is very small and I don't think even the smallest rodent could squeeze through, but buying accessories that lock onto the cage wall becomes difficult because only certain types will fit. The latches for the doors stick frequently and can be noisy (some WD-40 might fix this but I'm too afraid of the toxicity to try it, I may try vegetable oil in the future), but they require a fair amount of pressure on the top and bottom to open, so even if your pet could figure out how they would most likely not be physically able to. Tips - When you're assembling the cage you'll need to attach the sides to the bottom by placing the round pegs at the corners into the corresponding slots. There are small, black, plastic placeholders in all of the slots, presumably meant to help them keep their shape during shipping, and the pegs will not fit into the slots until you remove these placeholders. They have small holes in the middle which makes it look like they're supposed to be there, so it took me forever to figure this out. - If you can't get the pegs to go in the slots, place a folded towel over part of the cage to avoid damage and use a hammer over the towel. - The ramps will have a slight bend in the middle, this is intentional and makes them easier for your pets to descend. Don't try to unbend them. - The Amazon price for this cage (by Midwest Homes for Pets) fluctuates wildly. I've seen it for >$300 USD and as low as $219 USD. If the price is over $219 when you're considering buying, and you can afford to wait a while, it will come down. I would definitely recommend this cage!
