I haven't watched a 4k movie from disc but I have streamed 4k quality and it does look really good but of course as expected you're not gonna get ...
So I did a lot of research before buying this product. Im really impressed with the quality and clarity of the picture this projector provides. As far as 4k quality, meh, I haven't watched a 4k movie from disc but I have streamed 4k quality and it does look really good but of course as expected you're not gonna get actual 4k brightness/luminescence.

Overall impressed, but not everything is perfect
This is my second projector following the Optoma HD26 I got 2 years ago and used it on a daily basis. Picture quality out of the box is very impressive to my taste. I did some calibration according to the HK2299 setup in this forum. The picture is good, but no dramatically better from the Movie mode. My wife even thinks the presentation and day mode are better . The projector is connected through a Denon AVR to: Powerful PC with GTX 1070. PS4 PRO. XIAMOI MI BOX 4K. XBOX ONE X. When connecting the PS4 Pro, it automatically recognised the 4K HDR 10 BIT, and God Of War 4 looks stunning. No problem or significant lag. When watching Netflix on the PS4 Pro with HDR content / 4K content - worked fine. When connecting it to the PC I did encounter some problems as Windows 10 didn't want to change resolution to 4K. I updated the NVIDIA drivers and now it works. When connecting to the MI BOX, I needed to manually set the resolution to 4K. This is the only device so far which I've experienced significant drop offs. Playing Breaking Bad in 4K resulted in drop offs of 5-10 seconds every 10 minutes or so. And then it returns to the main Netflix menu displaying a connection error. Blue-ray movies on XBOX ONE X in 4K looks overall very good. More insights: The UI and the responsiveness of the remote is horrible. The projector is very quiet. I was very afraid of it's noise. No glow on the edges of the screen. as oppose to other 4K 0.47 chips. Negatives: Dropouts - It's freaking bizarre. I can have days without dropouts, and then days with dropout every 15 minutes. Luckily, the first is more common. Huge size - you need a different mount.

Synchronization issues are a killer.
First let me say that I do like the picture quality of the projector and I would likely be happy overall with the projector. However it consistently loses picture and sound for a period of 10-20 seconds at random times. Best I can assume it loses HDMI sync. I use it 2-3 times a week mostly streaming (Amazon, Netflix or Hulu from an Amazon Fire TV stick) or BluRay/DVD (from an Oppo UDP-203) thru a Denon AVR-6400H to a Atlona HDR-EX-70-2PS HDBaseT extender (over shielded CAT6). Rarely do I get a full session where the video doesn't lose sync atleast 1-2 times and sometimes far more frequently. Unfortunately for me I purchased this as my media room build was supposed to be coming to completion but 6 months in contractor delays and I didn't unbox until well outside of my return window. But by all my recommendations I would say AVOID this projector, losing synch this consistently is just unacceptable in my opinion. I have spent months trying a number of troubleshooting steps; removing various devices, trying different cables. Nothing has helped consistently and the intermittent nature is beyond frustrating. As soon as I recover from the LARGE expense of creating the (presumed) media room of my dreams, I'll be getting rid of this projector and likely avoiding Vivitek at all costs in the future.

Must be calibrated for an acceptable picture!
Ok, to be honest, this thing right out of the box was probably 2 stars maybe even only 1. I was very disappointed and very nearly ready to return it, but then I found a projector review site that had calibration settings posted (for a fee). It needed a LOT of calibration to get the colors looking right. Once this was done, it had a really good picture. Unless you like your people to all look just a little green, you will want to either find those Calibration settings or hire a professional calibrator to get this one looking right. The picture now is 4+ stars, but I knocked off a star for having to go to the trouble of tweaking the factory settings to get an acceptable picture. You'd think the Manufacturer would take more pride in getting these things close to reference color before shipping.

Awesome 4k picture projected on a 150" screen
This is a great unit. This is my 3rd projector ( 720P, 1080P, and now 4k ). I am so impressed with the picture quality. And if you need a mount this one is excellent: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0757ZP9C8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Strong contender for 1000 to 1500 price range
This projector did pretty well for movies and games and was fairly heavy compared to the larger optoma uhd65. Build quality felt good. Despite having same lumens as the uhd65 the vivitek does not do well with a little ambient light. Contrast was lacking also. I ended up keeping the refurbished uhd65 which cost the same as the new vivitek hk2288.

Killer picture
Do it! I’m running this beast with a denon 720 in a 5.1 config. Sony 800 dvd and Apple TV 4K. All cables to spec. It’s fantastic. Calibration from google. Denon a refurb bargain Life is short.
