This is the Best Vac .. I have ever used .. my only regret to short of a hose .. yes it is heavy .. but that is what gets the dirt out ...a light head .. never does .. you need weight pressed on the carpet fibers .. this beauty. can pick up pine cat litter - regular pet liter - pine needles - side suction is great around trim ..pretty much everything is no match with a gentle pull through the carpet .. ....go with Hepa bags it will cost more ..but it will cut the dust down inside the vac .. and in the outside emissions as well ..has plenty of a long cord .. love the Led lights .. I have repaired my old Kenmore progressive many times and others .. always the Kenmore .. many swivel heads vacs break over that stress point in the neck of the vac .. if you drop it .. carry it head down not locked .. no worries with this gem .. the noise is tolerable .. with others .. you need ear muffs .. the carpet looks great after one go over .. those bagless all the plastic bins dry out and crack .. have to wash them out .. the Hepa bags or paper toss away .. why all the drama .. with hair stuck in corners and dirt stuck in crannies .. 31150 .. You won't find any better than this ..

Works Very Well!
We had previously owned a "Pet Vacuum" and it just didn't go a good job. So when it was time to replace our old one I did my due diligence and searched the internet for the best one I could afford. I read both good and bad reviews to get a feel for what people are saying about a product. A Dyson was out of the question due to price, so I was after the best value. Some of the negative comments regarded the fact that the Kenmore Elite was not self-propelled, it was somewhat heavy, the height adjustment wasn't automatic and the hose was too short. BUT, it worked very well. After looking over other brands and options, I bought the Kenmore Elite Upright 31150. I was not disappointed! Yes, you have to manually adjust the height. No big deal. I need to do that once when I vacuum as we have shorter nap rugs in one area of our home. I then start in that area the next time. It is not self-propelled, but that's okay because if you have the height adjusted correctly, it will gently pull itself forward. Most of us need more physical activity anyway! I know I do. The hose is short-ish, but works for most of what I need to do with it and there is a wand for extra reach. The wand extends nicely. There are a couple of handy attachments as well, especially the mini-brush that spins using the force of the suction. We have three cats, one of which is a long hair who leaves piles of fine hair everywhere and the Elite has no trouble getting those out of our short nap carpet. Suction power is outstanding and when using attachments actually needs to be managed with the airflow gate on the hose. Maneuverability is fine, but because it isn't propelled by anything other than the spinning brush, it does take a little more effort than a self-propelled model. It is not "light weight", but I don't care about that. Like I mentioned, I like the physical aspect of using the machine. Regarding comments that said the brushes wear out; What are these folks doing to make that happen??? Even when I have the height set lower than it should be (which you should realize immediately as the vacuum wants to pull fairly hard) I still cannot imagine wearing the brush out that fast. We've had this vacuum for some time and I've very happy with it. A blue light on the nose of the machine lights up when you activate the brush then goes out after about 5 seconds. It will come on again when you go over an area with extra debris. My wife thinks it's a gimmick, but I like it because it will make me go over that area slowly until the light extinguishes, ensuring it's clean. This is typically where the felines favorite resting spots are, or near the entries to the house or around the fireplace. The LED "headlights" work great as well and really light up dark areas under furniture or in corners. The vacuum does have a bag which I much prefer over the canister type vacuums as all dust, hair and dander is contained. There are also exhaust air filters. All of these work beautifully. I don't have any Cons on this one; I love it and would by it again.

My Repeat Purchase
I bought my first Kenmore Elite Upright in late 2016, likely while the Kenmore Brand was still American based, but was still produced in China. I had to replace that first unit a few weeks ago. This most recent unit is still made in China, no improvements are obvious and it is still an excellent upright and an excellent value, even though its price has increased by slightly more than $100 (40%) over the 2016 price. First: Its faults: 1. Black rubber strip on sides leave black marks on white base boards if you are careless. I am, so I continue to cover the black rubber with masking tape. 2. The new unit is slightly noisier than the previous unit, with much of the additional sound coming from the suction chamber containing the brushes. 3. The hose and extension is still at least a foot too short. I kept my old extension and use two end-to end which is perfect for me. 4. The clip that is supposed to hold the power cord, near the top of the handle, should lock the cord in that position. It keeps falling out. 5. The reason for replacing the first unit was simply a crack in the hose where it bends to go into the cleaning head. The crack was so low in the bend that I could figure no way to repair it myself and I estimated that a part replacement and labor at a vacuum repair shop would be ridiculous The good: 1. A 35 foot power cord is superb. 2. The suction is excellent, both on ceramic tile floors as well as carpet (using the adjustable height control for proper brush height). 3. Even though the price has increased by 40%, it is still a terrific value. If anyone has purchased an upright that does a better job, for less money, please tell me. 4. Longevity - My first unit lasted 6-1/2 years. We use it in the kitchen and dining area twice a day, and do the entire house, approx 2200 sft, once per week. I handled the unit pretty rough, but try to treat this second unit more kindly. I am 82 years old and we have NEVER had a vacuum cleaner, in this price point, last so long. An excellent machine which does more that you expect, not without faults, but one that I will continue to buy at this price point

Title: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely LOVE This Vacuum! Beautiful, Effortless, and Cleans Like a Dream!
I absolutely LOVE this Kenmore Elite vacuum! Not only is it beautifully designed, but it is an absolute dream to use. It glides so effortlessly across every surface that you can practically push it around with just one fingertip! The adjustable height settings make transitioning between carpeting and hard floors a breeze, and the cleaning performance is outstanding. It maneuvers beautifully, feels incredibly smooth, and makes vacuuming almost enjoyable! Another feature I’ve come to appreciate more and more is that it’s a bagged vacuum. No more emptying filthy, dusty canisters and watching all that dirt and dust escape back into the air! Everything stays neatly contained in the bag, making disposal so much cleaner and more hygienic. I’m genuinely delighted with this vacuum. It’s beautiful, thoughtfully designed, incredibly easy to maneuver, and cleans exceptionally well. Five stars all the way! I couldn’t recommend it more highly!

Dust sensor is the reason to buy
Purchased this vacuum to replace a similar 20-year-old model. It is a comfortable replacement with similar controls and accessories. Really like the dust sensor light that glows when material is flowing into the vacuum through the power head. Power cable is stiffer than I prefer but its long length is appreciated. Weight seems less than my older model and a bit easier to maneuver on carpet and floors. Performance is excellent with no apparent clogging, bags and filters are easy to change. It is an excellent replacement for my old Kenmore upright vacuum and feels like I got full value for the money on an updated model.

*Used to be my favorite Vacuum
I originally purchased this based on a comprehensive Consumer Reports article on vacuum cleaners. I had it for 5 years with heavy, daily usage for 5 kids and multiple indoor pets. I ordered a new one on May 22, 2021 and my previous 5 star review is now a 3. See below. Overall, it is an awesome straight forward vacuum. Excellent suction, decent cord length, and a work horse. I prefer Bagged options and I do splurge to get the cloth vacuum bags for this model. I change the bag once a month with daily vacuuming. The hose is shorter than I would like but with daily use, one learns to navigate to offset the slight inconvenience. We have a very old house with high ceilings so there is no hose that will eloquently reach those ceiling corners anyway! There are no belts to replace! Severed belts were my downfall with previous vacuums and for years, there was only minor maintenance on this Kenmore to keep it running and happy! The suction and power- awesome! It goes between various carpet piles and uneven thresholds easily and provides the same great pick up power regardless of material. It is heavy in the sense that my 11 year old would slam it into the legs of my grandmother's table with little effort so that would be a caution for anyone with family heirlooms or preteens that hurry through their chores. (I got a Samsung robot for that room and I vacuum it once a week with the Kenmore to save the table and chair legs from disgruntled youth.) Fast forward to May of 2022, when my second one was a year old and the powerhead roller brush stopped working. There is nothing stuck. The suction on the hose and the bare floor option is still great. The brush just won't roll. One year is not good enough for me. I'm not interested in disposable appliances. I'm at a crossroads. If the original model was rebuilt to have a shorter life span, I'm not sure a $322 price tag is in my budget for a yearly investment. I'm very disappointed and unsure how to fix it. We live in an area that no longer has service centers and so I am unsure of the time, energy and cost associated with fixing it. I reached out to Kenmore customer service and will provide updates on the issue and the process.

This Vacuum Sucks (A Compliment)
In 2008 my husband and I purchased a Kenmore Upright Vacuum Cleaner. It worked very well and we didn't need to take it in for very many repairs. This year (2023) it reached its retirement age. I researched various vacuums for features, product reviews, complaints, and prices. I also subscribe to a magazine the tests and reviews products and does not accept any advertising, and put together a spreadsheet to help me make a decision. I chose the Kenmore Elite because it satisfies my needs. When it arrived the box was intact (very important to me). Inside, the ends of both the top and the bottom were securely held in place by heavy-duty styrofoam and each of the attachments was separately wrapped in plastic. A kudo for this product, practically everything inside is recyclable!!! Our cats also enjoy playing in it. The owner's manual is right on top so it can be read before removing the entire item from the box. The assembly was a snap. The only tool required is a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw from the bottom element, attach the top, and screw them together. The top and bottom were easy to join and fit together very snugly. The screw is long and that gave me confidence that the vacuum won't fall apart with use. The height adjuster has five settings: "high" and "med high" for bare floors, "I" for medium pile carpeting and "med lo" and "lo" for carpets. I checked it out and could see the suction head going up and down and the brushes "retracting". The "lo" setting can also be used on bare floors. There are two bright headlights that make it easy to see what you are vacuuming, and a dirt sensor that lights up to let you know if you're catching everything. The total length of the power cord is 40 feet long (from the outside of the vacuum to the plug), of which the first two feet is the distance from the outside of the vacuum cleaner to the floor. That's long enough to clean our great room and part of the back bedroom without having to move the plug from place to place. It has three attachments that fit on the vacuum when they're not in use: a long crevice tool, a combination brush and the "Pet Handimate". The first attachment is pretty obvious. The combination brush has a removable brush for cleaning drapes, and stairs (bare and carpeted). The Handimate is 5.5 inches long and 4.25 inches wide and has two sets of revolving brushes. Also included is a telescopic wand that is 17 inches long and can be extended to 26 inches. The wand also has notches every 3/4 of an inch so that if you don't need the whole length you can choose your length and the button will snap securely into place. The hose is 22 inches long and has a suction control on it. The Elite also has performance/safety features: a thermal protector for the suction motor; a thermal protector for the agitator (brush) motors; a by-pass valve that protects motor overheating and damage; and an agitator overload protector should the agitator slow down or stops because of a jam. It also contains an exhaust filter in the back and the dust bag is in the front. Both are easily reachable and changing the bag and filter take no time at all. I change mine every couple of months because we have two cats. Replacement filters and dust bags can be purchased from the manufacturer but there are less expensive alternatives available from other websites. There's also a Help Line that is available Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m (EST). I tried in on our inside front door mat (the bristly kind) and it worked liked a dream. In just a few minutes it removed everything. I did have to go back and forth a few times in a couple of places but that's to be expected on something that traps dirt from the outside. It's very quiet and very light and using the well-placed and well-designed carrying make it simple to be carried up or down the stairs. I very highly recommend the Kenmore Elite Vacuum Cleaner and encourage everyone who is considering a vacuum replacement to choose this one. If you have an old Kenmore the attachments may fit on this new one (one less thing to buy). One thing that I would recommend is to find an "exploded" view that lists the parts and their names (but no part number), in the event that you may need to replace something beyond the attachments, filters and dust bags.

Phenomenal vacuum, but get the (blue) 31140 version instead!
**Initially a 4 star vacuum; a year later and it is sadly now a 2 star vacuum in my book. Reasons in the EDIT below! Initial review: Phenomenal vacuum for anyone with carpeting and pets! I’ve owned a Dyson, Bissel, and several Hoover uprights in the past; while they were all fantastic vacuums, the Kenmore Elite is easily the best vacuum I’ve ever owned. I have 2 cats that shed all year long, so I vacuum our bedrooms (carpeted) on average 3-4 times a week. The amount of stuff this vacuum manages to pick up is just incredibe; my carpets look, and more importantly, actually *feel* clean once I’m finished vacuuming. Unlike some of my other uprights in the past, this vacuum picks up just about everything on the first pass. Its suction is so strong that it even picks things up from a distance (without actually needing to roll over the area), which is great for vacuuming in corners or close to the wall. Works great on hardwood floors as well, even with the rollers on. For picking up gritty substances on hardwood (crumbs, cat litter, other “sand like” things), it works best with the rollers off; these things do tend to “bounce” if the rollers are on! Rollers automatically shut off when the vacuum is in its upright position. Yes, it’s heavy, and yes, it’s loud, but so are majority of other upright vacuums on the market. The weight doesn’t really affect its maneuverability while vacuuming, but can be an issue if you need to carry it up a flight of stairs regularly. Make sure you check the weight if this is something you’re concerned about. In terms of noise, it’s certainly loud enough that it’s difficult to carry on a conversation with someone while using it (without yelling), but it’s not so loud that it leaves your ears ringing once you turn it off lol. I’d say size, weight, ’maneuverability, and sound are about the same as every Hoover Wind Tunnel I’ve owned. One major flaw design—the hose. Where it connects to the vacuum is placed such that when you stretch the hose more than a few inches without physically holding onto the vacuum, it loses its balance and falls over. This is a huge flaw for anyone that likes to dust/clean with the attachments. It’s nearly impossible to use the hose without holding the vacuum, which basically negates having a long hose to begin with (initially a pro in my mind when choosing this vacuum). This design flaw makes this vacuum a poor (and potentially dangerous) choice for anyone that plans to use it on carpeted stairs. The hose diameter is also slightly smaller than most other uprights, making it so that practically all “universal” attachments aren’t compatible with the hose (without an adapter). Highly recommend purchasing a 32mm to 35mm adapter if you’d like to use additional dusting attachments (separate from those included with the vacuum); I found this adapter to work with majority of “universal” attachments available on Amazon! TL;DR If you’re looking for a quiet or lightweight vacuum, keep looking! This thing is heavy and loud (not much more than most other uprights, though!). It’s size and weight allow for its suction power; it’s an incredible vacuum for anyone with pets or allergies. Works extremely well on carpet and rugs, but does a great job on hardwood floors as well. Rollers automatically shut off when the vacuum is in its upright position. One major flaw (and the reason for the missing star)—stretching the hose more than a few inches without holding the vacuum will cause the vacuum to fall over. Not a deal breaker for me, but it does prevent this vacuum from getting a 5 star rating! Hose diameter will NOT fit most generic dusting attachments; purchase a 32mm to 35 mm adapter if you’re planning to order additional attachments! Edit: It pains me to change my initial 4 star rating to a 2 star rating, because this vacuum is truly a power house. The reason for the drastically lower rating? The direct drive roller brush/beater bar. This version uses a self-propelled roller brush that is directly powered by the vacuum without the use of a traditional belt. This is fantastic until you need to replace the brush. Traditional brush rollers powered by a belt typically aren’t that expensive or difficult to replace, however I’ve never personally needed to replace the brush rollers on my upright vacuums in the past––with regular untangling / upkeep, the bristles are usually still in great condition by the time the vacuum motor gives out. After only a year of use, I noticed that the vacuum was no longer making carpet lines as I vacuumed. Not inherently an issue, but moreso just something I noticed and shrugged off. It still seemed to suck up all of the visible hair and debris off my carpet, but I noticed after a few weeks that my carpeting looked (and felt) less fluffy than normal. I decided to check and see if the roller needed to be cleaned, and to my surprise, I found that basically ALL of the bristles were gone. Literally like 95% of the bristles were missing from the brush roller lol. They had all deteriorated at the root of the bristle, leaving behind just a tiny prickly patch where they attached to the beater bar. Since I didn’t use this vacuum any differently than I did my previous uprights, I was a little confused how they wore out so quickly. Not a big deal though, since I figured it couldn’t cost more than $20-30 to replace. Well, that is the case for vacuums that utilize a belt, but not the case for beltless vacuums that require a special kind of brush roller. ***A brush roller replacement for the 31150 model is currently $320*** LOL…THIS IS MORE THAN THE COST OF THE VACUUM! I decided to look through the reviews and saw a few others who complained about the same issue. I removed 2 additional stars from my initial review––1 for the poor longevity of the bristles on the brush roller, and 1 for the cost of the replacement. I could probably deal with one of these issues alone (can you tell I otherwise LOVED this vacuum?), but having both of these issues combined is an absolute dealbreaker for repurchasing the 31150. No one should have to purchase a $300 vacuum each year, and a quality vacuum certainly shouldn’t require $300 in maintenance fees each year either. After some research, I have since purchased the 31140 (blue) version of this vacuum, and it is every bit as powerful as the 31150, but with a belt powered brush roller. The 31140 version also does not include the light up dirt sensor. The suction, weight, and sound of the vacuum are all equal to that of the 31150, and the flaw in the hose location is still an issue with the 31140. Luckily though, replacement parts are much cheaper for the 31140––the belt is ~$5-8 and the brush roller can be found for just under $30. TL;DR Unless the bristle quality issue is addressed in the future, DO NOT purchase the 31150. The brush roller does not last more than a year, and costs $300 to replace. Purchase the 31140 version instead, which uses a belt powered roller. Every bit as powerful but with an affordable brush roller replacement available for ~$30!

Perfect Kenmore Vacuum
I haven’t been able to buy or get a decent vacuum until TODAY!! I LOVE THIS VACUUM and will never, ever, ever buy something that needs to be charged/recharged and emptied constantly. I’ll ALWAYS buy Kenmore!

It's okay
Easy to get blocked if you disconnect the hose a lot. I miss the days of bagged canister vacuums with multiple tools included from Kenmore.

Best Vacuum ever !
I replaced this vacuum with the same exact model that i bought about 6 years ago! It got beat up and i somehow broke the the pedal that keeps it upright, so i decided to look for a new Vacuum! I went to 5 different places that sell Vacuums and could not find a single one that uses bags, I hate the bagless ones as they are messy and do not like the look of the dirt in it and having to always wash filters , So after much research and shopping arround, I discovered that many of the Vacuums on the market are just cheaply made and a bad design! Maybe because i was used to this high quality product that i did not like anything else. So, I ordered the same one again as this Vacuum sounds and looks great, not too loud and very smooth sounding, you can tell it has a solid motor, also I never had to replace anything on my olde one, no belt and the bags last a very long time between changes! It is not good on stairs but I don't have stairs to worry about anyways so it is not a concern for me! Do yourself a favor and buy this Vacuum you will not be disappointed ! It makes your carpet look like new every time you vacuum!

This is the second time owning this vacuum
People who own this vacuum need to know; Do not be rough with the lever that you press down with your foot to make the vacuum lean back to vacuum. We would pull back on the vacuum while pressing down on the lever and the lever broke after a while and the vacuum would not stay sitting upright, we would have to lean it up against a wall. Also be gentle with the telescopic wand, that stopped working after a while and when you used it to clean it would not stay outstretched it would always collapse because the locking mechanism broke. This is the best vacuum I have ever owned for suction. Love that it has a bag and a hepa filter.

Decent vacuum
Seen someone rave on TikTok about this so since I been trying all sorts and haven’t yet to find a good vacuum I took the chance on this one, it is loud and sounds like a jet or something.. with the bag I can’t visualize how much it actually is sucking up, it is heavy and not good for stairs. I definitely don’t think it is as good as people have said I still prefer my cheap $180 vacuum over this one
