Difficult to Read in Kindle Version
I purchased Kindle version. In many places, it is difficult to make out the vowelling and other Arabic print features. I am unable to increase the print size. I'm reading this in a group and have seen the print version which is much more legible. Given the choice, I recommend the hard copy version. The grammatical structures are simplified. I would categorize myself as an advanced 2nd year student and have found it useful to increase vocabulary and to see the vocabulary "in action", so to speak, as different forms of Arabic roots are used. The stories are pleasant and contemporary, but not highly interesting. Most new vocab is introduced with a translation in the margin. Periodic repetition of words and seeing words in context is very useful for vocabulary building.I could not get the link to the recording to work, but a friend provided this link:[...]

Very good
I used this book for around six quietful months. I have to say that it was an enjoyable experience. This is divided into three parts. Stories are simple and funny. The book, however, is not for absolutely beginners or starters students. Students must know the alphabet, know some elementary rules of the language, and having the energy to read without the ḥarakāt marks. At the end, the book has a modest glossary but, in my opinion, it is not possible study all the material without a good Arabic dictionary (which implies knowing looking for into this sort of dictionaries!). At the moment, the audio is easily accessible from the audiostudyplayer website.I recommend this book for anyone who is wishing jump into real arabic language!

I love it so far
I always write 3-star reviews so that it piques people's curiosity and makes people focus on the review. Now that's out of the way...As an educator who specializes in second language acquisition, I love this book so far. The texts are so authentic and so comprehensively discuss events somebody might participate in during daily life. Of course, no book can tell you everything you need to know; you have all of life to teach you that. But, this book does a great job at showing essential vocabulary and grammar in an exciting narrative. The comprehension questions are great too. Challenge yourself to ask and answer them in Arabic. This is NOT a book for absolute beginners. You need to know the alphabet, some basic vocabulary and very simple sentences. But, I think this book will help take you to the next level.

Arabic Font Too Small on Kindle
The Arabic font on kindle is too small to read. Increasing the font size only increases the English font.

comprehensible and great flow
I ordered this book for myself after checking it out from my local library. I enjoyed reading this book and completing the exercises so much that I ordered one for myself. What I love about this book is that it is comprehensible and that it presents useful vocabulary in English. I have studied Arabic for nearly 10 years (on and off) and it's difficult to come across great literature for individuals learning Arabic as a second language. If you're a lover of the Arabic language or would like to improve your reading skills, this book is a must have in your Arabic literature inventory.

Buy the paper edition if you can
I love the content of this book and the exercises as I love all products by the Wightwick and Gaafar duo. I bought the paper edition a long time ago. Then I bought the Kindle edition so that I could have another copy wherever I go. So far, I am not satifisied with ANY Kindle product in Arabic that I have bought. The font is too small and when it is enlarged it becomes nothing but blurry dots. But for the content, go for it. I improved my reading skills greatly. My vocabulary increased a lot and I became more comfortable with broken plurals and words with attached pronouns and with using connector words (prepositions and conjunctions)

Excellent book!! I wish there were more of them.
Entry level adult arabic readers are very hard to come by. I've purchased all three that I have found, and found this to be the best. The book is entertaining and has three basic sections:Jamal's Journey follows an Arab American on his first trip to the middle east. It does an excellent job of covering both vocabulary, usage and the rarest element CULTURE.Arab Characters gives short entertaining biographies of Arabs throughout history. Finally the story of "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves" is modernized and presented in manageable chunks using simplified language. All of the sections are littered with pictures, illustrations, word definitions, idiom explanations, and most importantly questions about the material to ensure you are reading critically. The material is easy enough to follow for a self-learner and the key in the back ensures you are not too far from the correct answer if stumped.

Content Good, Format Frustrating
I bought this book yesterday and love the idea of a graded Arabic reader for adults. The story is simple and offers very useful vocabulary and gradually builds in complexity.I was excited to see that I can start buying Arabic books for the Kindle. Unfortunately, Arabic font is smaller than English fonts by nature and you can't change the Arabic font size using the font button on the Kindle. So, it is nearly illegible to me. Also, the larger Arabic words in the title get pixelated. So, I would go with the print on this one for now....

A great resource - more please!
I'm very happy I bought this. I'm really a beginner but my preference is to learn through reading, which is why I got the book. It's taking me quite a while to go through each chapter and to learn all the vocabulary, but it's well structured with vocabulary repeated as you go along in different contexts. The texts are interesting and the script fairly large for ease of reading. The notes at the side are useful (although some words don't seem to appear in the glossary or at the side). I also like the "test your understanding" sections and would really like a few more exercises in each to help solidify some of the vocabulary (although I can do that on my own). The texts are read at about the right speed - I can tell that the speaker is really going quite slowly (it's very clear) but when it's a lot of new vocabulary it sounds quite fast, so the compromise works for me. I really wish that this came with a CD so that I don't have to be on the internet all the time in order to listen to it. I travel quite a bit on the plane and it would be really nice to listen to it when travelling (or even when on the train). This is why I drop a star. Although it will take me a while to finish this book (I'm not learning to read almost instantly, despite what the book claims!), I'm already wishing there was another one that I could buy afterwards!

Brill
I have been learning arabic for more than one year and anything by these 2 authors is absolutely excellent. Moderately easy stories with lots of clues to the words and grammar. Need to be able to read arabic at first but for that I would recommend any of the other beginers books in this series.

Audio files need some digging.
Just got the book and a bit disappointed to find that the website specified for the audio files doesn't contain the required resources (it links to the McGraw Hill website and even searching that website doesn't give the required files). I found it by googling text from the websites picture on the cover of the book! It's www.mhprofessional.com/apps/studyplayer/online_study_player/mail.html, and it needs Flash to work.

What on earth did I ever do without it?
The subject matter makes itself immediately useful, and the layout immediately accessible. The online audio component rounds off the whole thing . What on earth did I ever do without it?
