Laguna Aeration Kit for Ponds - Includes Pump, 30 ft

This pump has been supplying aeration to a 5'x10' outdoor pond for about a year including one winter. The pump includes a 20' hose, one air stone, and a float that wraps onto the hose to suspend the air stone at a specific depth. The float is an ugly white distraction, but the float should be used if your pond is more than about 3 feet deep, otherwise the pump will be working too hard and may burn out prematurely. If you use the float, you may want to tie a weight to the air stone, with the weight able to reach the pond bottom, otherwise the wind will blow the float around. Our pond is only about 30" deep. With the air stone resting on the pond floor, it emits a steady stream of bubbles about 18-24" across when it breaks the surface, with the motor at about 3/4 speed. I put the pump in a small plastic shoebox with a lid, with a small hole cut in the side of the box for the power cord and tubing to pass through. It's important that air "leaks" into the box, remember it's pumping air which must be freely available. If your pump is at or below water level you must use a back flow preventer, or your pump could get damaged during a power outage. A back flow preventer will reduce the air flow rate. The pump is quiet, although there is a small hum which can be heard up to several feet away on a quiet day. According to the package, the pump uses only 35W (that's less power than a small incandescent light bulb). Even though it's low power, it's much more effective at aerating the water than a fountain or a waterfall, which typically can have motors up to a few HP (each HP is 750W). Our pond is in northeast New Jersey and has a dozen common goldfish. The fish love the bubbles, they often hover inside the plume before zooming off to another part of the pond. In winter the aerator maintained a hole in the ice until temperatures became subzero, but even if the hole became closed the important thing was that the air was still pumping under the ice. The aeration keeps the water "oxygenated" and prevents toxic gases from building up under the ice (due to decaying vegetation, fish feces, etc.). The fish hibernate in the deepest part of the pond below the air stone level, where they can rest without disturbance. As the water gets cold, they move slowly and stop eating. During the warm months we feed them daily with dried fish flakes from the pet store. After a power blackout, the airflow had dropped noticeably due to pond slime on the air stone, but the slime can easily be removed using a soft brush. Make sure the pump is running when you scrub so you're not pushing slime into the small holes in the air stone, and after scrubbing the airflow should immediately recover back to normal.

I have always used a powerful fountain pump for my small fish ponds but I've had a few issues so I bought this to add more oxygen for my 1 big 17 year old goldfish, which I keep inside now. My Marine Vet told me to give fish a lot of air and they can never get too much. ((I've been treating my sweet guy for Ich/and he's never been sick before)) I keep Elvee in an old fashioned huge bath tub which I think is about 45 gallons. I have used and do have an outdoor 200 gallon tank but due to issues of wild animals, have not put him back outside. This was easy to use and set up inside for me. I bought a couple Jardin air stones here on Amazon too. I just pushed the end of the air stone tube into the end of this long tubing, sunk it down to the bottom and turned on the pump here. There is a dial which also seems to adjust the amount of bubbles and it's very quiet. I just left all the long tubing in case I wanted to use it in the larger tank outside. Now I've got 2 pond fountains and 2 Aerations with air stones going for him. I do not get snow here nor freezing weather so I did not use anything except the pump, tubing and attached the stone. It does not float up at all. I'm hoping I can keep my goldfish happy and healthy. I am very pleased with this and would buy another one!! Arrived on time and packed nicely. It's a lot nicer than the one my Marine Fish Vet put in for me.

My old Laguna lasted 10 years. It was still going but not giving much air. Replaced with the same exact model and it's pumping away. Many bubbles for the the fish. Everything you need is included and it works great. I am hoping for another 10 years with this one. I only use it in the winter when my skippy filter is turned off for the cold weather.

This product works extraordinarily well!! Like one of the other reviewers, I typically kept a $250 pump going throughout the winter to keep my 4000 gallon pond from freezing over. Because I didn't filter the water during the winter, I had to continually clear out deris from the pump (a really, really big pain). I tried using the Laguana aeration kit this past winter. I thought I had nothing to loose for about $30.00. Wow!! What a pleasant surprise!! Not only did the aeration kit keep the pond surface from freezing (and the temperatures fell below freezing and dropped near zero on several occasions last winter in my neck of the woods--zone 6)but the algae that typically overwintered and thrived in my pond during the winter months DID NOT DO SO!! Algae was virtually non-existant the entire winter season! I normally have to use TWO UV lights in my pond to control algae but this season I'm using only one. My trusty aeration kit has significantly reduced my algae problem and the aeration solution is the cheapest and most effective I have ever used! Nothing else in my pond set-up has changed and this is the first time in over a dozen years maintaining a pond that algae hasn't been a problem!!!) I highly recommend this product!! But I do have one caveat: the instructions recommend a one-way valve (not included) to keep water from siphoning back into the pump if the power goes off. I was a tad annoyed that this item wasn't included in the kit but it cost only a couple of dollars at PetSmart and well worth the peace of mind. I have a small plastic container near my pond that I use to protect the aeration pump and my uv transformer. No problem drilling a hole for the power cord and airline (actually the hole was already there because of my uv clarifyer transformer needing protection). I've recommended this product to all my friends with ponds. At Amazon's price of $30.00, I'm purchasing another for back-up.

The aerator arrived very quickly and was as described, except that it appeared to be used. The tab with a hole to mount the unit to the wall was broken. It also had other signs of use. I decided to try it anyway and it happily worked well, and quietly. I use it outdoors for my 4-feet deep pond. I decided to use a bubble disk rather than the air stone that came with the pump, although the stone put out a mighty respectable bunch of bubbles. The disk sits on a shelf about two feet deep and the pump velocity is adjustable, which is really nice. I use mine almost all the way up but it is good to have the ability to turn it down too. I did not contact the seller regarding the fact that it appeared to be used, so I cannot speak to the service, except to say that it did ship and arrive two days after I ordered it, which I LOVE. I purchased the Laguna aerator for a 125 gallon outdoor goldfish/koi pond. During the warmer months, when the fish are eating and active, I use a waterfall with a submersible pump and filter. During the colder months, when the fish are not eating and are "hibernating" I turn off the waterfall and pump and use this aerator to keep the water oxygenated. It also serves to keep the water from totally freezing over and suffocating the fish. This aerator is more than powerful enough for this size pond and probably could easily handle one twice as large if not more. The aerator pump is not designed to be outdoors, so, if you are keeping it outside, you should place it on a platform off the ground and securely cover it while making sure it vents. I used a wood plank and covered it with one of those fake landscape rocks. So far, it has been running smoothly and it is set to less than half the aeration power. The kit came with everything needed, including a styrofoam float to suspend the aeration disc. I stuck some plastic ferns into the float to improve its' appearance. All in all, a good product for a good price.

I have a forty gallon patio pond with a couple of fish. They love this aerator and so do I. So far it has kept the pond free of ice and the fish relatively active and very healthy. Have been running it straight for six months without incidence. If it quits in the next six, will certainly buy again for all the benefit it has given. Some noise, but I made a small cover for my unit using a Tupperware loaf bread container. Has keep it dry. Also covered unit for the winter with an insulating blanket, careful to leave room for air to circulate. So far so fine. Few nights bitterly cold and ran without incident. I think I will need a stronger unit or perhaps two of these for my 500 gallon pond, but even so believe it would keep an air hole open.

UPDATE AUG 2014 In July 2014, one year after I purchased the pump (June 2013) the pump died on me. It still made a normal humming sound but it completely lost air pressure. Anything more than an inch deep in water resulted in no bubbles. If you are thinking about buying this pump, expect poor quality and a short life. Best to spend your money elsewhere. For those with a little time and know-how, if you have the same problem I did, the pump can be fixed. Here is what I did: Since the pump was trash-worthy, I decided to take it apart to look at it's innards (I always do that before I relegate it to the dump). The outer blue plastic pump box contains a small electrical module and a cast metal box that houses the pump assembly. The metal box can also be easily disassembled, and it contains an alternating current magnetic coil and pump/lever assembly. The coil generates an alternating magnetic field that is used to drive two magnets connected to metal levers. The levers drive two rubber diaphragms which are responsible for pumping air. Both rubber diaphragms on my pump were torn near the diaphragm-to-lever screw, and the inside plastic washers that held the diaphragms were also shredded. Carefully pry each diaphragm off it's base, unscrew them from the levers, and trash the cheap plastic washers on the inside of the diaphragm. Replace the plastic washers with some slightly larger metal washers. I happened to have some metal washers just laying around and have no idea what size they were. They were big enough to cover the torn area of the diaphragm but small enough to not interfere with pump operation. I then clamped each diaphragms between the new washers, added some rubber cement to keep things intact, and put everything back together. After my repair, the pump is actually working much better than it ever did before. ORIGINAL REVIEW AUG 2013: I've had this aeration kit outside to aerate our turtle pond for about 2 months now. The pump is not water resistant, so I have it sitting in a maintenance box with the electrical connections to keep it out of the rain. I'm currently using the included bubble stone and I'm less than impressed with the amount of bubbles this kit puts out, even at it's highest setting. When turned above ~50% power it will produce a noticeable hum. I'm thinking about upgrading the bubble stone to something else and hopefully I'll get better results, though I'm inclined to think it is the pump based on tests without the bubble stone. I do like the fact that they give you plenty of tubing with the kit, even though we only used about 10ft. For just under $30, you get what you pay for.

great for what I wanted to do, aureate my cistern, get the replacement kit too as running this all summer lasted 2 years.

Bisher läuft diese Pumpe sehr zufriedenstellend und belüftet meinen Teich. Wir hatten leider noch keinen Winter und damit einen zugefrorenen Teich, aber ich sehe hier keine Probleme auch mich zu kommen. Besonders erfreut bin ich über den leisen, kaum hörbaren Betrieb - die Luftblasen hört man besser.

Habe seit langer Zeit das gleiche Modell,bin voll zufrieden,dazu sehr preiswert,ich kann den Lüfter nur weiter empfehlen.einfach gutes Teil,.danke. gerne wieder..

Installé pour empêcher l’eau de mon petit bassin de geler complètement. En remplacement du même moteur qui a lâché juste avant l’hiver. La force du jet d’air est ajustable. Très efficace pour hiverner des poissons à l’extérieur au Québec.

Biggest piece of garbage … bought it for back up and it’s basically useless. Hasn’t even lasted 48 hrs and it can barely aerate the pond do not waste your money
