Laguna Aeration Kit for Ponds - Includes Pump, 30 ft | Airline Tubing, Air Stone & Float, Year-Round Water Aeration System, Improves Oxygen Exchange & Prevents Freezing

This pump has been supplying aeration to a 5'x10' outdoor pond for about a year including one winter. The pump includes a 20' hose, one air stone, and a float that wraps onto the hose to suspend the air stone at a specific depth. The float is an ugly white distraction, but the float should be used if your pond is more than about 3 feet deep, otherwise the pump will be working too hard and may burn out prematurely. If you use the float, you may want to tie a weight to the air stone, with the weight able to reach the pond bottom, otherwise the wind will blow the float around. Our pond is only about 30" deep. With the air stone resting on the pond floor, it emits a steady stream of bubbles about 18-24" across when it breaks the surface, with the motor at about 3/4 speed. I put the pump in a small plastic shoebox with a lid, with a small hole cut in the side of the box for the power cord and tubing to pass through. It's important that air "leaks" into the box, remember it's pumping air which must be freely available. If your pump is at or below water level you must use a back flow preventer, or your pump could get damaged during a power outage. A back flow preventer will reduce the air flow rate. The pump is quiet, although there is a small hum which can be heard up to several feet away on a quiet day. According to the package, the pump uses only 35W (that's less power than a small incandescent light bulb). Even though it's low power, it's much more effective at aerating the water than a fountain or a waterfall, which typically can have motors up to a few HP (each HP is 750W). Our pond is in northeast New Jersey and has a dozen common goldfish. The fish love the bubbles, they often hover inside the plume before zooming off to another part of the pond. In winter the aerator maintained a hole in the ice until temperatures became subzero, but even if the hole became closed the important thing was that the air was still pumping under the ice. The aeration keeps the water "oxygenated" and prevents toxic gases from building up under the ice (due to decaying vegetation, fish feces, etc.). The fish hibernate in the deepest part of the pond below the air stone level, where they can rest without disturbance. As the water gets cold, they move slowly and stop eating. During the warm months we feed them daily with dried fish flakes from the pet store. After a power blackout, the airflow had dropped noticeably due to pond slime on the air stone, but the slime can easily be removed using a soft brush. Make sure the pump is running when you scrub so you're not pushing slime into the small holes in the air stone, and after scrubbing the airflow should immediately recover back to normal.

My old Laguna lasted 10 years. It was still going but not giving much air. Replaced with the same exact model and it's pumping away. Many bubbles for the the fish. Everything you need is included and it works great. I am hoping for another 10 years with this one. I only use it in the winter when my skippy filter is turned off for the cold weather.

I purchased the Laguna aerator for a 125 gallon outdoor goldfish/koi pond. During the warmer months, when the fish are eating and active, I use a waterfall with a submersible pump and filter. During the colder months, when the fish are not eating and are "hibernating" I turn off the waterfall and pump and use this aerator to keep the water oxygenated. It also serves to keep the water from totally freezing over and suffocating the fish. This aerator is more than powerful enough for this size pond and probably could easily handle one twice as large if not more. The aerator pump is not designed to be outdoors, so, if you are keeping it outside, you should place it on a platform off the ground and securely cover it while making sure it vents. I used a wood plank and covered it with one of those fake landscape rocks. So far, it has been running smoothly and it is set to less than half the aeration power. The kit came with everything needed, including a styrofoam float to suspend the aeration disc. I stuck some plastic ferns into the float to improve its' appearance. All in all, a good product for a good price.

Bought this for my 1500 gallon, 16" deep goldfish pond to keep my fish alive during our Wisconsin winters. I set it up outside in a small Styrofoam cooler for protection from the elements. I soon found that the air stone was way too small for my needs so I purchased a bigger one, but it would be fine for an aquarium. The pump is so quiet I must periodically check it in the winter when the pond is iced over to know it's working. This pump will keep your pond open until a hard freeze and continue to circulate the water under the ice which is really all the fish need. Keeping a pond with critters is one big science experiment from which I learn each passing year. My first winter with fish was really cold and the pond froze up to 12" deep for several months. Ran my Pond Boss 1300 gph waterfall pump with this aerator until it died, after which I spent many obsessive hours attempting to keep a hole open & wishing I'd brought them inside. Much to my amazement I only lost 2 of my 25 fish. Those that died were large Shubunkins that either couldn't go that long without food or are not as hardy as other goldfish species. This past winter I ran a low 500 gph fountain pump with this air pump and did not keep a hole open in the ice and all 30 of my fish survived. The waterfall pump I referred to dying earlier also came back to life in spring and gave me another season! That Pond Boss pump was a workhorse running 24/7 for 6 years and now I can't even find one. Long story short...protect this pump from the elements and you winter fish keepers will not have to worry. Don't pay insane electric bills to use a heater or de-icer that can only be used in winter. Get bang for your buck with year round use of this air pump/aerator! I hope my review and experience helps relieve some anxiety for new pond goldfish keepers. I cannot speak for my goldfishes' more expensive and less hardy cousins the Koi however and would tread lightly with them in harsh winter conditions. Happy ponding to all!

I live in Colorado and after a freeze or two on the falls, which are fun and interesting to see, I am over it. Turn off the Fall pump for the season and keep a hole in the ice for gases to escape. I tried a pond heater and it worked but cost more to run then the pump so I tried a comercial grade aerator that was overkill. I think the fish did not like it either because I lost several in spring to stress etc. So I downsized to this unit and it is perfect. It is dirt cheap to run compared to heaters. When we freeze over because it is really cold the unit opens a hole quickly after the cold front goes through. The only thing I learned was how important it is to keep the hose above water between float and pond edge. Other wise that section may back fill with water and freeze up inside. Just drop it in on a ledge close to the side.

This product works extraordinarily well!! Like one of the other reviewers, I typically kept a $250 pump going throughout the winter to keep my 4000 gallon pond from freezing over. Because I didn't filter the water during the winter, I had to continually clear out deris from the pump (a really, really big pain). I tried using the Laguana aeration kit this past winter. I thought I had nothing to loose for about $30.00. Wow!! What a pleasant surprise!! Not only did the aeration kit keep the pond surface from freezing (and the temperatures fell below freezing and dropped near zero on several occasions last winter in my neck of the woods--zone 6)but the algae that typically overwintered and thrived in my pond during the winter months DID NOT DO SO!! Algae was virtually non-existant the entire winter season! I normally have to use TWO UV lights in my pond to control algae but this season I'm using only one. My trusty aeration kit has significantly reduced my algae problem and the aeration solution is the cheapest and most effective I have ever used! Nothing else in my pond set-up has changed and this is the first time in over a dozen years maintaining a pond that algae hasn't been a problem!!!) I highly recommend this product!! But I do have one caveat: the instructions recommend a one-way valve (not included) to keep water from siphoning back into the pump if the power goes off. I was a tad annoyed that this item wasn't included in the kit but it cost only a couple of dollars at PetSmart and well worth the peace of mind. I have a small plastic container near my pond that I use to protect the aeration pump and my uv transformer. No problem drilling a hole for the power cord and airline (actually the hole was already there because of my uv clarifyer transformer needing protection). I've recommended this product to all my friends with ponds. At Amazon's price of $30.00, I'm purchasing another for back-up.

This pump works great. It is larger than it appears in the pic. I'd say its about 9 inches long, and about 3.5 inches high. Maybe 4 inches thick. I have a 2200 gallon koi pond and this pump makes plenty of air for it. It produces a lot of bubbles. And if you have somewhere to put it, then you can't even hear it run. I just ran a long airline, and I never even hear this pump. It is also pretty power efficient. It doesn't come with an air stone though, for actually making the bubbles. You are going to need one of the larger airstones because this pump flows a lot more air than some of the smaller ones. I would recommend the big 5 inch circular one from petsmart or someplace like that. And you need to let the stone soak for a long time before using it, just like the package says. Or else it won't make bubbles near as well. Learned that from personal experience. All in all, this pump has served me very well. I would certainly not hesitate to buy another one. It has lasted fine in the freezing cold, and in the punishing texas heat.

So far this product is adding helpful aeration to my Koi pond which has one hole in the center the rest is covered by about 4-6 inches of ice. I have a plastic box on a few blocks off the ground, in which the Kit is encased = hole for the tube and a few holes for air coming in,(very cheap 2 bucks at Job Lots or Walmart) this helps to keep snow and rain off the pump. It is then placed under an artificial rock for my electrical (pumps, filters etc) very simple set up. Although I think if the plastic box was elevated off the ground or in a somewhat weather resistant "umbrella" box it will also work.. I have had temps in the negatives here (-14 F) _and it is working great, keeps the water bubbling , hole in the ice and oxygen to the fish. I plan to use the pump year round, very little energy consumption, cheaper than a pond hole heater.

Works well to keep our pond open in the winter. would recommend!

Bisher läuft diese Pumpe sehr zufriedenstellend und belüftet meinen Teich. Wir hatten leider noch keinen Winter und damit einen zugefrorenen Teich, aber ich sehe hier keine Probleme auch mich zu kommen. Besonders erfreut bin ich über den leisen, kaum hörbaren Betrieb - die Luftblasen hört man besser.

Habe seit langer Zeit das gleiche Modell,bin voll zufrieden,dazu sehr preiswert,ich kann den Lüfter nur weiter empfehlen.einfach gutes Teil,.danke. gerne wieder..

Biggest piece of garbage … bought it for back up and it’s basically useless. Hasn’t even lasted 48 hrs and it can barely aerate the pond do not waste your money
