JINHAO X450 Fountain Pen M Nib (Grey Marble)

I think i like this more then the 9019 to he honest. I have alot of jinhaos maybe seven or more and i think this is my favorite. It works so well and just flows freely and smooth and its so cheap! Its all metal and lovely looking. Mom loved it so much that i had to get her one. It never skips and has a nice nib. It fits in my hand better then the 9019 aswell.

Love this pen!!! Nice weight; solid! Nice writer. Great red, with some neat black lines. At one point, ink didn’t didn’t flow, so I twisted the converter to remove an air bubble! Yay! I am amazed by this pretty pen~

Updated Review: The Good; This is my 2nd one, not a fan of the red color this time - Light weight and balanced this pen writes quietly and smooth. No scratching. The nib has good flow, not super wet it allows the ink to lay a nice line. On poor paper the ink feathers out, on good paper the line is very nice. I like the grip, it positions the fingers in the correct location. For the money Jinhao is very respectable. The #6M nib can be reassigned on any other feed on another #6 pen of your choice. I've transplanted them on a Cambridge and Jr. George without issue. Actually feels better than the JOWO's. No noise, just quiet flow. Snap cap is snug. Inverted, the nib writes just as well producing a slightly finer line with no scratch however the writing angle changes now due to the change in grip/finger indent position. If your handwriting is good this is a minor adjustment. The Bad: WARNING: This pen does not like some international cartridges. The ink will pool up at the nib and make a mess. That said, use the converter that comes with it or cartridges that are made for Jinhao and be a happy writer. There is a tolerance with the feed stub and the refill opening that has to be taken into account. It's not a defect, it's a design spec. Cap does not post - says that in the description, it will if you jam it on but that's your call. I ordered a 3rd one in a different color. I do like this fountain pen. May not cost $900 but writes like it does without a drain on your bank funds.

I own fine Montblanc. Pelikan, Parker Duofold and Waterman ball pens and mechanical pencils but never bought fountain pens because I needed practicality for outdoor work as a journalist. This fountain pen matches all the brands above in fit and finish and has the heft of a Montblanc. I have no complaints about the pen or the nib, even though almost all the paper I use is scratch paper repurposed from various overlong statements and documents arriving in my mail. I can’t wait to write a check to experience a hard finish paper. When I ordered this pen I saved for later several attractive Monteverdi, Conklin and Chinese fountain pens to buy in case I liked the ritual. Right now I am satiated and will be content until the pen acquisition bug bites again.

I have owned both pens a few weeks now, and have taken every chance I've gotten to draw, write, and experiment with them throughout owning them this short period of time. The X450 is a larger pen than the Hong Dian Forest Series, thus are likely meant to serve two completely different purposes. That said. I don't think this alone is enough to stop them from being compared, as they're the two most common and popular pens amongst Amazon and are commonly bought. Pistons - X450__ The Jinhao X450 uses a standard Jinhao piston converter, had a pretty nice and robust ink capacity, though does often times suffer from burping if not cleaned. Forest Series__ I'm not sure where Hong Dian (Asvine) gets their pistons from, but they feel like a stiffer Jinhao and not as fluid when twisting. I don't think this could lead to issues in the future, but the only way I've found to loosen these is by using silicon grease, or by completely washing them out after they arrive. Nibs - X450__ Jinhao's nibs are some of the most reliable out there in terms of Chinese budget pens. They have nice and decent flex to them, can express decently without damage, and they feel buttery smooth while being pressed down with force. Forest Series__ The Forest EF Nibs are probably some of my most favorite out of box nibs after a good cleaning. They are as well ready to write out of box, and are super friendly to all inks I've tried with them. Posting - X450__ Sadly, the X450 has a very wobbly post performance. The caps tend to rock back and forth and cause problems if you want them posted. Forest Series__ Probably of the two one of the better post positions out there, since the end of the pen is made for the cap to be fitted on without problem. My conclusion comes down to this. Both pens write nicely, though Jinhao actually has a lot of reputation behind them and has the reviews to back it up, while Hong Dian (Asvine) are reliable, but customer care with them seems to be a hassle a lot of the time. Out of box both are great and give no problems, though I'd likely push my preference more towards the Jinhao X450. I would also recommend that if you want an X450 M, buy some replacement nibs on the side as well as sometimes they can come with defects as mine did, plus... Let's face it, messing with new and different nibs is fun. Hopefully this helps future buyers decide which is best.

I have some very expensive pens (Visconti, Mont Blanc) and while these pens aren't those, for the price point you can not beat the feel in the hand or the writing experience. I bought 3 different colors for my office and am thoroughly enjoying using them every day.

I've tried several different fountain pen brands and models. For me, this one is perfect! This is a beautiful, smooth writing pen. It is only available with a medium nib, but it uses #6 sized nips and the nib is easy to replace if you want a different line width. I was amazed that it started writing immediately after I filled it. No startup problems. Goulet Pens sells a very nice nib online and has video instructions on how to replace the nibs. It comes with a piston-type converter for filling from bottled ink. However, it also uses standard international cartridges. If you use bottled ink, but sure it is the type for fountain pens! Do NOT use India Ink! India ink will clog any fountain pen. The cap seals well and closes with a snap. It also posts easily. To me, it feels more balanced with the cap posted. Writing is very smooth and free. I love writing and drawing with it. It is a fairly large pen with a satisfying heft to it which I like. I wear XX-Large gloves, so I need a larger pen. If you have smaller hands, you might not like the size and weight of it. I would suggest trying it to see if you like it as much as I do! I will be getting several more of these pens!

This pen worths every penny!!! Don’t get fool by the price. Seriously get this one if you are a fountain pen writer/lover. I am trying to looking for a fountain pen and has red body color. I have always been a pilot and sailor fountain pen user. But I could not find a red one from those two brands that I like. I actually just shop blind and want to give this one a try, and it turns out now my favorite so far. I love the weight of the pen, and the gold medium nib is just pure beautiful! Unlike my sailor which is light and feel plastic, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the heavy feel of this Jinghao fountain pen. The craftsmanship just does not look like this is only under 10 bucks!!! I have own pilots and Sailors which cost more like $30-$50 range, but Jinghao now becomes my new favorite. Also a huge plus of the ink cartridge! It is 10/10! I am already place an order for a 2nd one!
