Invincible: The Chronicles of Nick

Another great one
He second in the Chronicles of Nick series didn't disappoint. As Nick continues to grow up, go to school, make new friends, he still has a lot to learn. Nick is learning to trust, himself and others. He's learning more about the art of control, in a healthy way. Most of all, he's learning who he is.I continue to love this series & how it ties in so well with the Hunter Legend series. Nick has been one of my favorite characters from that series, so to see the characters unfold from his teenage point of view is a treat.

Great Addition to The Series
***NOTE MY REVIEWS OFTEN CONTAIN SPOILERS***If Nick thought because the Zombies were gone his life would go back to normal, he was sincerely mistaken. When his mother gets a new job at Sanctuary, Nick gets his first introduction with Death, the Grim Reaper come to train him on divination with Pain and Suffering to act as assistants. If that weren't weird enough Nick is quickly learning that very few people in his life are actually human and those that are can't really be described as normal. And he's got a new football coach at school who not only puts Nick on the team but enlists him in a little club, a club which forces Nick to steal or risk going to jail for crimes he didn't commit. Nick doesn't know where he can turn, but he knows the Coach is up to no good. Will Nick figure out what the coach's plan is before it gets him killed?Invincible picks up directly where Infinity left off as in the exact same night and same moment the last book ended. I liked the continuity of that; however I don't think this book was a good as the first in the series. The main thing I didn't like about it was the discrepancies during the course of the novel. Like she'd say one thing in one chapter, only to change it a few chapters later. I mean it wasn't huge changes, it was little think easily forgotten, but that's one of my pet peeves, I like the details to stay the same and it stands out to me like a sore thumb in a book when a detail changes. Everyone has their reading pet peeves, mine are discrepancies, weak female leads and first person present tense. I don't much care for slow pacing either, but all of this is besides the point. I'm not sure if I noticed any of this the first time I read this novel which was like days after it was released because yes I am a Sherrilyn Kenyon addict. Well not completely, I could skip her BAD series pretty much all together because it's not really a genre I care for, but everything else she writes both as Kenyon and Kinley MacGregor is on my to read list. And while I could go into a long discourse about my interest in Kenyon's work I'm off topic yet again. I did like Infinity better than Invincible because Infinity had more character involvement and more going on. All the characters from the last novel with the exception of those that died in the first novel are still part of the story, but Kody and Caleb were the only ones other than Nick that really got a lot of story time in this book. The secondary plots beyond that of the Coach from Hades were only hinted at and not really explored the way they were in the first novel. Yes Kenyon has worked in a sort of love triangle with Casey, Kody and Nick but since Nick's really only interested in Kody despite all the years he was crushing on Casey it's not much of a love triangle at all. The plot is still fast paced, it just doesn't have as much action and mystery as the series debut. It is however an enjoyable, well written, close third person story. We do get a few other viewpoints besides Nick's but like in the first novel those sections are short and just enough to give us an idea of the outside players. The character development was good, Kenyon built on what was previously established in the first series novel for the characters of Nick, Kody, Caleb and Casey. This novel further fleshes them out and gives them more depth. We also got a little bit more of Kyrian, Mark, Bubba, Ash, Simi, Cherise and Rosa those these characters weren't accessed as much as they were in the first novel she did gives us a few more details about each of them to further build their characters. We were introduced to Grim, Pain, Suffering and Xenon as well as a few other characters like Coach Devus. There was a decent build for these characters enough to establish them and make them memorable individual characters, but not enough to make them completely flesh people you feel like you know. A host of other characters are introduced here as well, without real detail added to them, but Dark Hunter series fans will recognize and know most of the Sanctuary Crew as well as Savitar from their reoccurring status in that series.Overall though I didn't like this as much as the first in the series I'd definitely recommend the novel. It was a delightful read and like the first in the series offers a full story arc while remaining clearly part of a larger series and story arc. I look forward to the many more Chronicles of Nick to come.

Great addition for SLK fans
Just got around to reading the second book in the Chronicles of Nick series. It took me about a day to read it, and I enjoyed it. I thought SLK stayed true to Nick's 14 year old voice. She also started to pull in threads of her typical complicated overarching storylines which is what I love about all of her series. Who can Nick trust? Who is after him? What do they want from him? How will this impact what we already know about the DH world? She has started introducing these elements in her second book. I read several of the "less pleased" reviews, and while I don't think they are crazy, I think it comes from several things.1. Some don't like that this is a YA book, which means that you don't get the overt sexual/combat things you get in the DH series. This can translate to boring to some people. That's cool...it's just a preference.2.If you don't find yourself reading much outside of the romance novel genre, and haven't found yourself liking SLK later books, you aren't going to like this series. SLK is moving in a integrated series direction which means there is a certain element of delayed gratification involved and complicated subtle storylines. If a book with a heavy crescendo and a nice big ending is what you like, you aren't going to get that here.3. Finally, which I personally find might have the most merit for me, is that this series is planned to be like a 10 to 14 book long adventure. This means it might appear choppy to adult readers. I can see this. I think they might do this because when they publish in YA is tends to be structured this way. But I personally enjoyed the book enough that am am willing to put up with any annoyance when I feel like they cut off the story arc a bit too soon.I enjoyed this book as an avid SLK fan, and will definitely be reading the rest of this series

More of teenage Nick!
The second of the Chronicles of Nick this book pretty much picks up where Infinity left off and continues the story of Nick's teenage years - with a little intervention from the mysterious Ambrose who is desperate to undo the mistakes which have huge consequences for his future! No zombies this time around just very confusing friends/enemies....and an evil football coach! This book was really enjoyable with Nick's constant sarcasm. It is a really easy read as it is technically for young adults and obviously lacks the intense romance and darker tones of the original series. I finished it in a couple of hours but it was a fun read with all of Sherrilyn Kenyon's usual style.I think fans of the original series can probably better appreciate whats going on in the background of these books and im not sure how easy to follow they would be for someone who has not read the darkhunter series. Those who have know where Nick was headed and all that went wrong in his life with his mum and that fatal encounter with the Simi - this series provides the opportunity to change all that and i'm very curious at how it all turns out!

Must read for all Dark Hunter fans. What you think you know you don't!
Having read the dark hunter books I wasn't keen to try this as I figured I knew Nicks story, well leave it to Ms Kenyon to throw in a twist and suddenly what you thought you know you don't. This is going to be a very interesting path waiting to see just how and where she is able to take this story.

Brilliant
Have resisted reading these for so long as they have a teenage hero but i was wrong, they are just as good as the original dark hunter series with the intriguing idea behind it that at any moment nick may do.something which changes all the books we have read so far as the Malachai.tries to change the past and prevent armageddon

Nick gautier
I've read many of the dark hunter series by this very talented writer and loved them all. Nick was a big character that always seemed secretive. What a joy now to get to know him and his role. LOVING ITI adore sherrilyn Kenyon and find this series hard to put down once I've started. Keep up the good work. Please please please have these made into a tv series or films. AMAZING. Would give true blood a run for its money.X

Chronicles of Nick
We first met Nick in the Dark Hunter series. It was an inspired choice to concentrate on Nick and how, if he had made different decisions in life how different his life would have been.Speedily fulfilled by supplier.
