I live in an area with bears and mountain lions. When my small dogs like to go relive themselves at the yard, I am often worried they may be in danger since I can’t see very well. This gives me a bright enough view to be able to spot anything and protect them while they go out in the yard. Image is bright and clear.

This works for what I intended it for, to peek into the dark corners of our rural property at night from our home deck. It works well for this type of use. I can easily see all 6 acres of our property with the IR on this camera and far out past our property line. The photos I added to this review were taken 980ft from where I was standing with this camera to the side of the house in the photo, according to g maps measurement. The photos/videos that this camera produces have a ton of digital noise lines, but the image on the actual screen looks pretty good while your looking through it. The item is fine if you dont expect much from the photos/videos it takes. About what I was expecting for "night vision" in this price range.

I was a little disappointed. The delivery and product quality appear fine for just a few days out of the box. However, I found the controls awkward with the zoom and IR illuminator using a common button. One gets used to it but it takes practice. A separate IR ON-OFF button would help. Also, once the settings were set (IR on or off, zoom) for the conditions and it is turned off, one hasd to go thru all the settings again to set it up. It did not "remember" the last setting. The display could use a dimmer and a lens in front of the display to allow one to put one's eye into the eye cup. It is only in focus when about 6-8 inches away and is very bright. Night vision (1/4 moon) typically needs the illuminator and it works out to about 100yds (as advertised). Depth of field is tight. That may be normal; it is the first commercial one I've used. Haven't taken any pictures, yet.

Didn't bother to try the recording or photos. The screen size is very small. The other folks saying that it is not a monocular, that the field of view is way too narrow, and that it is no good for indoor use are absolutely correct. This can certainly give away your position even on the low brightness setting. I as a 36 year old with perfect vision cant focus on the screen any less than 6-8 inches away without it hurting my eyes. Further away, it becomes very impractical because the screen size is so small. The small field of view is useless for walking around at night. This device is almost more debilitating than helpful. It is however, decently clear when you focus it correctly.

The bad: Bought for a nighttime airsoft game and it sucked. This is not well suited for use in a forest environment as the illuminator reflects off close foliage and blinds you from seeing past it. The good: However this is ideal for urban or more open environments. I was clearly able to make out toolbelts hung on steel studs at the construction site across the street in pitch black.

This is a really cool piece of hardware. The monocular has pretty good zoom letting you see things 200-300 meters out very clearly. The standard (no digital zoom) field of view is fairly narrow. i wouldn't recommend it for night vision to walk around with but for spotting targets it's great. The IR illumination has 8 modes allowing you to control the intensity which is nice when scouting in enclosed spaces.(Keep in mind it is active IR which is great for most non-tactical scenarios) You can also record video and take photos in both regular and IR active mode. For the price I think this worth it. I'd definitely buy it again.

Positives: 1-Good day image quality for the sensor size this type of camera are using ( do not compare the image to a 2-3k digital camera) 2- good IR image quality and good control of IR led(in city you can turn off the IR led , in forest let it on) 3- nice that the battery can be replaced 4- Narrow Field of view so you can subjects from 200-300m Negative: 1- Not a Monocular!!!, it has a small screen and it hard to focus if you don't have good close vision . It will be nice to have a eye adapter and be a real monocular.
