Very healthy source of protein
Because of my migraines, I have a very limited selection of protein bars. Pea protein is the only kind that doesn't trigger headaches, and it mustn't be combined with other triggers. Formerly I ate only Garden of Life bars, but they were discontinued. Despite their high calorie count, I find these bars useful in managing my weight. They're filling and add much needed protein to my diet. The taste is acquired. I like mine with a cup of coffee.

I'm eating one while I type!
I was looking for a bar that provided my family with higher protein, lower sugars, few ingredients and soy-free (260 cal/60g; fat 13 g; sodium 25mg; Carb 23g: sugars 12g; protein 15g). Yep, this bar has it all. Oh, and it tastes YUMMY!!! It passed the five-year-old son test... he loves them (whew!). They are moist and chewy, tasting of cashew and lemon zest. They are higher in fat, but it is a natural nut fat. There are only 4 ingredients: organic cashews, organic coconut nectar, pea protein, and organic lemon extract. The only other bar from this company I've tried so far is the Crunchy Carob Chip, and it is great also. Only bummer is they are costly. But I still buy them, as they are much better for my child's body than goldfish crackers, etc.

Awful
Neither my wife nor I can eat these bars. If you have ever driven past a dog food plant (like Alpo in Allentown, Pa where we used to live), you will recognize the odor as soon as you open the packaging. I managed to get a whole bar down, because of the lemon taste (I love lemon flavored anything), but I will never try another one because of the bad taste and smell. To be sure, I offered one to my wife to see her reaction - her nose wrinkled as soon as the package was torn - she bit off a small bite and said she could not eat it. This woman never throws ANYTHING away, and will eat almost anything, as she said so herself. However, she will NOT touch these bars. The honey / cashew bars are edible. However, carob is NOT chocolate. Though we are able to eat them, they are no substitute for real dark chocolate. I will stick to my Quest Bars - they have more protein, and flavor that I have tried has been very, very good - especially the ones with dark chocolate. If Rise is "real food" - I'd rather go hungry than it them. John in Simpsonville, SC

Gotta Love These Bars!
These bars are fantastic for a snack bar. Great protein, low sugar, and barely any ingredients! I'm a huge fan of the minimalistic ingredients. It makes me wonder why other companies use so many ingredients when you can get a good tasting bar with less! The Lemon Cashew is my favorite flavor by far. It's chewy and tasty. The cinnamon flavor tastes good too, but much drier and more cake like than the others that I've had from Rise. Pros: - Easily packable protein bar - Wholesome ingredients - Very few ingredients - Pretty good macronutrient profile. Can't complain much about that. Cons: - There is very little fiber. I eat a lot of salads, and I still notice a difference after eating one of these. - Oils start leaking out of the packaging after a few weeks of sitting in a bag (or shorter if it's hot out). After a few months of having plant oils leak out into the cloth of my backpack, they start to get a little smelly. I've had to wash my backpack to get rid of the odd semi-rancid smell. As long as you eat them right away, it isn't a big deal. Keep in mind that these aren't the best bar to store in a bag and forget about. Overall, I like these bars and have been buying them for the last year or so. Very low in carbs so I can eat them close to bedtime and not feel bad. They also help me boost my protein intake when I'm traveling a lot. Just remember to eat them with water and you'll be fine!

Yes - as the package says - Real Food
OK - it's not as tasty as some - but there is no distaste at all. I easily accept this as a superb tradeoff for a truly healthy protein bar. This lemon-cashew is the first flavor I've tried - maybe another has more pop for my taste buds - but, again, I do not care about that but instead seek the "better" alternative. I will not be going back to the more traditional protein bar that comes in 20 flavors. I'm ex-Army, and I wish I had a backpack full of these bars versus the c-rations and candy bars they gave us back in the early 1970s when we went into the field. THANK YOU.

Good flavor, decent consistency
The taste of this protein bar is pretty good I really like the lemon and cashew flavors. The texture is not overly chewy or dry it does not feel like you’re eating cardboard. The consistency is a little different from other protein bars but overall it’s not bad. I would like it to have a bit more lemony flavor, and there are some chunky areas for cashews that weren’t completely ground up.

The right protein bar.
I finally have the right protein bar. I am a serious enthusiast in running with fuel and recovery being very high priorities. In many cases, fuel and proper recovery outweigh performance. I have tried countless other protein strands, brands, and flavors. This bar an hour before a marathon helped me to achieve a new VO2 Max, new PR, reduced pain after “the wall,” and I was able to return to the training trail after only two recovery days. These are a staple in my pantry now. Many protein bars taste horrible or have a dry chalky texture if they aren’t loaded with junk food ingredients. This one doesn’t have that problem at all. They are almost chewy, great texture, they don’t have the greasy film common in healthier protein bars, and I enjoy the taste. I would equate these, taste-wise, to European sweets. They taste like a treat but without more grams of sugar than protein.

Gentle lemon flavor, but VERY dry, and get worse and expire months early
Update Oct 2025— tried more bc so nutritious. They do “melt” in hot water, basically come apart, powder mixing into the water and the remaining chunks soften some. And chewing and swallowing with water helps some too. But, they got even drier by about 2 months before expiration, almost impossible even with water. And by 6 weeks before expiration, the nice lemon flavor disappeared. So we thought we would avoid buying these in September, October, and November, since the last couple orders expired in November. But then, biggest problems are that we read that coconut nectar is NOT coconut juice, it is sweet sap, and there is SO MUCH of it compared to other simple-ingredient bars, any health benefits prob go to zero. And these are not available on EBT. So, even though we hoped these would be great, there are too many problems, some quality and some that could worsen health. So we will try Trubars and Larabars, even though they have less protein and silly flavor names. The other brands that we could find, MacroBar, Lenny-Larry, and Aloha, are on EBT, but are flat-out candy, even worse, so those are out too. Update — after this review was published, the manufacturer sent us an amazon message based on it and offered a full refund. Thank you, that was very nice. Original review — Hoped to love these. We have allergies, chewing, swallowing, and digestion problems. So good nutrition is hard to find. These seem so nutritious, and simple ingredients. The flavor of the lemon cashew is gentle lemon, but the bars are pretty hard and VERY dry. The one we managed to try wasn't gritty, no nut pieces, skins, or shells, just a hard-packed powder brick that slowly broke apart in the mouth when chewed carefully to avoid choking. We think anyone would find them too hard to chew and swallow. Anyone would need lots of liquid or fat to be able to swallow these. They are so dry, microwaving prob wont soften them since there is nothing to melt. They really need cashew butter (not powder), fat or more liquid mixed in to make them less risky. We might chat with amazon customer service to see if they will refund without return.
